Hello folks and welcome to our channel. I'm Esther and I run the blog This Farmhouse Life.
Today I'm going to show you how to make a very easy and frugal granola cereal.
This is one of my favorites and I'm excited to share it with you. So let's
get started. So first of all I have a half a cup of maple syrup and a fourth
a cup of honey. So we're going to add this to our sauce pan and then I have a
half a cup of coconut oil. You're going to heat this, let the coconut melt and
just incorporate it well. Meanwhile while this is heating I'm going to turn my
oven on to 330 degrees. Get that going. In my mixing bowl here I have measured
out four cups of oats. Now today I'm using old-fashioned oats or rolled oats
but you can use quick oats or a mixture just whatever you have on hand and it
varies what I use just depending on what I have on hand. To this I'm going to add
two teaspoons of cinnamon and one teaspoon of salt and we'll just give
that a little stir here. Mix it up a little bit. Now what I'm making today is
just a very basic granola and there are so many add-ins and things that you can
do. Really your imagination is probably the limit with this but sometimes I like
to add in nuts and different kinds of dried fruit. You can also you know use
fresh fruit. I've used bananas or peaches. We like to eat it with yogurt or just
with milk. So there is a lot that you can do with it and it doesn't have to just
be plain Jane all the time. You can also substitute some of the oats for Rice
Krispies and that gives it a nice little crunch something different. So there's
there's a lot you can do and it's very cost-efficient to make and the one thing
I like about it is that my two-year-old will eat it. So it makes for a really
quick easy breakfast for him and I feel like he's getting something that's
really healthy and I don't have to worry about refined sugars and I just feel
really good about giving it to him. This just needs a little bit more. Coconut oil
is almost melted.
This granola also will store really well so I've never had it go bad. I have heard
that some people recommend storing granola in the freezer so I'm sure that
it would work with this recipe. I have never done that. It doesn't last long
enough to get to the freezer usually. Okay so it's the coconut oil is all
melted and I've just been stirring to try to incorporate everything. So then
we're going to just take it and pour it over the oats and you just want to stir
it till the oats are well coated. One of the reasons that I add my extra things
after it's done especially like the dried fruit is when we have tried to add
it at this point and then bake it it seems to really make the fruit kind of
hard and your raisins or cranberries and it's just as unpleasant to eat so I
like to add those things right when I dish it up you know for individual bowls
and then we just add what we want in. Okay as you can see this is pretty well
coated so I'm gonna grab my cookie sheet and you just spread it out on a cookie
sheet. Now you can use parchment paper to line your sheet pan if you'd like but
it's not necessary. It just might save you an extra dish and this recipe is
also very easy to double and make a larger quantity.
I'll just spread this out and you're gonna bake it at 330 degrees for 10
minutes. There's my oven all warm and ready for 10 minutes and then you're
gonna stir it. If you let it go much longer than 10 minutes it will start to
burn around the edges and I personally don't like burned granola. You'll bake it
for 10 minutes, stir it. I will do mine for probably another 10 minutes. You can
adjust the time you bake it depending on if you want really.
