Not long ago, Mark Stein put out a tweet saying NBA teams would be notified this week that
they must certify and submit the precise height and age for every player within the first
week of training camp.
You guys may have seen my last video I made on the subject, well let's just say that
some of the people I discussed in the video, their heights have actually been changed.
And of course, naturally, there are some people who weren't in the video who did have their
heights changed too, actually a lot of guys, and as you may know, some are way more surprising
than others.
But before we go any further guys, be sure to subscribe and turn on post notifications,
you will not want to miss another Dkoop video, and that's facts.
Also guys, be sure to follow my IG, handle glikekoop, we're going hard on the NBA season,
you won't want to miss a post.
You guys know for my videos, I like to go fact hunting, I like to really find the truth.
Let's just say I found a lot of it.
I found a really solid article on ESPN that dates all the way back to 2011.
It talks about height, and how players have been lying about height for some time, but
surely we all knew this.
The person who wrote the article said that they asked around for some infamous height
liars, and one name that came up often was Kevin Durant.
The article states that Kevin Durant is a truth teller in a liar's world, because
basically everybody's lying about their height.
The article says that Durant is really barefoot 6'9", but how are fans supposed to believe
KD when he dwarfs a 6'9 guy who is 6'6 in real life.
I'm not going to lie, I have been fooled by Kevin Durant's height too.
Because I mean that's actually facts.
Kevin Durant seems so much taller than he actually is, because everybody else has been
inflating their heights.
His monstrous wingspan doesn't help, but everybody has known KD is a freak of nature.
We're going to touch back on Kevin Durant's height in just a second.
What I really want to talk about is, why is there not more of an emphasis on standing
reach?
I think standing reach has a more than solid argument for being more important than height.
I would argue that's part of the reason that Draymond Green has been so effective
guarding bigger players, and just an all around menace on defense period.
This article from 2011 also had an all height liars team.
It's somewhat of a throwback, but I'm interested in knowing if any of the names
surprise you.
Zion Williamson officially measured in at 6'6".
This puts to sleep a lot of the people who were guessing about his height and unsure
about it period.
Zion Williamson's height has fluctuated over the past couple of years and there have
been people who thought he had a growth spurt.
Well we can finally put all that to rest.
I do find it hilarious though that after finding out Zion's height, some people are now out
on him they may have been in on him before.
They're calling him an undersized power forward and they're also saying a whole
bunch of nonsense about Zion.
But I really thought Zion looked good in the Pelican scrimmage.
He threw down monstrous dunks and got to the rack time and time again with ease.
I honestly don't know what Zion did to get so many haters, but I can't wait for him
to prove them wrong.
Luka Doncic came in at 6'6 3 quarters.
Now this is actually pretty close to Luka's height.
There were some people that were speculating that Luka was 6'8".
That just wasn't true.
If it was, it may have been fun, but it brings to question, do us NBA fans tend to overvalue
the actual height listed?
Just think for a second.
Chris Stapp's Porzingis actually measured in at 7'3".
That's ridiculous.
He could have been listed at 7'4", since everybody loves listing players in shoes.
But then again, am I overvaluing height again by even saying that?
When I should be thinking about the standing reach.
MB came in at 6'11 3 quarters, and Ben Simmons came in at 6'9 1 half.
These guys, I gotta give it to the 76ers.
Their listings were never too far off, even though there were reports earlier about Simmons
having that monster growth spurt and Joel Embiid being way taller at 7'2 or 7'3.
Kevin Durant actually came in at 6'10.
Keep in mind that that's 6'10 without shoes, so it's really all preference on
whether you want to call Kevin Durant 6'11 or 6'10.
I think it's safe to say that KD has grown a little bit since being in the league.
Kevin Durant actually said himself that he would lie about his height because he always
thought it was so cool to say he's a 6'9 small forward.
He said that that's really prototypical size for a small forward.
Anything taller than that and they'll start saying, oh he's a power forward.
I feel like we see this a lot today and still in high school where if you're the tallest
guy you're automatically the center.
It doesn't matter how nice you are to some coaches, they want you down on the block no
matter what.
I feel like in past years we've also seen it a ton in college.
You'll see these guys whose games are really restricted in college, maybe these tweeners
or these guys that are called tweeners, power forwards in college that end up being small
forwards in the NBA, when it turns out this guy may have been a small forward all along.
He was just not allowed to play his game in college.
I feel like if I was part of the NBA draft process, the whole scouting process, I would
try to find guys that just weren't used properly in college.
Maybe bigs who had their talent suppressed which we see often.
A lot of bigs don't put up numbers in college.
I don't think Carl Anthony Towns had crazy numbers, I don't think Anthony Davis had
crazy numbers, and I know for facts Andre Drummond didn't have crazy numbers.
This is just going off the top of my head.
It's a really limited game occasionally for bigs in college.
That's why I thought what Bull Bull was doing was so impressive.
Only recently are we starting to see more of a change.
And of course I'm speaking on more of the scoring aspect.
In college, if you're the center, a lot of times coaches will want you to be more
of a rebounder and defender, which is boring man.
Now of course it seems Kevin Durant was lying about his height based off of perception,
which is fair, but I understand where he's coming from in this aspect.
He also said that when he was talking with women, he would say he was 7 foot.
Durant never ceased to amaze me.
We'll just have to start adapting to the 6 foot 10 Durant the best way we know how.
You guys remember Kevin Garnett right?
His height was everywhere.
Some people thought he was a legit 7 footer, some people thought he was 7 foot 1.
He was just another guy that didn't want people trying to make him play center.
Oh yeah, and I actually found a confession from Kevin Durant earlier.
He claims to be 6 foot 10 and 3 quarters, which would actually really make him closer
to 7 foot with shoes.
Do what you will with that knowledge.
Now be sure to click the video on the screen right now guys, it'll take you to my latest
video, it'll take you to D-Lo and Stephen Curry trading threes at practice, you don't
want to miss it.
I'm DQ, hope y'all enjoyed the video man, and I'm out.
