Hey guys! I'm here with a smile on my face because I have an interesting unboxing to do.
I have received some succulents from The Next Gardener and I've never had succulents shipped
to me. So this is going to be a new experience and I think I'm in for a treat and they sent
me some surprises. They wanted me to share with you this unboxing. They come from California
so it's inside the United States. I know California grows a lot of the succulents
that we get in the stores. Most of the times I've seen the labels that come from California. It
seems like it's a good environment for succulents. So I wanted to share with you guys and there will
be a promo code in case you guys are interested in getting a little discount. So let's get into
this unboxing. Okay I just went ahead and kind of split the tape because I wanted to make this a
faster and we'll start with box one. They came together like taped together, both boxes.
So we'll see. I do want to do a project with these succulents so I'm even more excited because I want
to do a nice arrangement with them. I've seen people do them. I've always wanted to do one and
I haven't done one. So I'm definitely recycling this stuff, this cotton stuff. The box is really
nice. It's full of all of this to help the plants with that not to move inside of here.
Okay all the way from California. I live in North Carolina. So okay so here's one I can pull out. I
live in North Carolina so they came all across the United States from the west coast to the east
coast. Okay so these are individually here wrapped. It's the easiest way here.
Pull down. Yay! We do not have this one. It's a string up plant and it's a
ruby necklace. I'm so glad I have not purchased this yet. Look at that. The stem is more purple
than I would have thought. That's really pretty. Really pretty. I do love string up plants. I have
string of tears, string of pearls, string of turtles. Those are the first ones that come into
my mind. String of yeah the variegated string hearts and not variegated. So I really really
like string up and that I know of these should not be hard to take care of. Not
as hard as a string of pearls. The string of pearls I know for sure is hard.
And I have one. It's doing pretty okay but it's not as great as my string of tears.
It is really nice and full right there. Look at that. That's really pretty. I want to see if it's
dehydrated. Just a little bit it seems like. I'm touching the little. I don't know what these
would be. They're not tears. They're not. I love how that color is. So for me I'm kind of
realizing that I guess these get sun stress and they change color. I'm telling you it's
my first time having a string. It is string of tears right? Well it's this.
It is string. I thought it was a ruby necklace. Maybe this is the official name
but I think it's common name is ruby necklace. But that's the official name I believe.
Osana Catenesis L.H. Bailey or it might just be another variety. I don't know. Maybe you guys
know. That's beautiful. Okay plant number two. So yes I'm gonna try to make an arrangement using
these combinations. We'll see what gets created. I don't know if I'll be able to use all of them
in the arrangement but I definitely am going to make an arrangement.
It has a flower. What is this? I'm glad there's tags.
I can't pronounce it. This is the same type as a bear paw right? That same type of
secular cotitulidon from when I remember. Let's check it out. Oh how beautiful. This baby
has been sent through shipping and it's prime of its life. Okay this is oh there's another
these are our flowers right here. We haven't changed color yet.
It's a spit flower. So this is supposed to be I think another plant that I think it becomes like
stringy. Very very cute and very interesting and I love the small little I don't know if you call
it leaves but it's very dainty. I do love that. I'm looking forward to seeing this one grow.
Okay let's see what's in this little box full of surprises. By the way it is midsummer here
and it is extremely hot today. I don't know how it is where you guys live.
Okay this is a sedum. That's the thing. Do you know what it looks like? Because I don't.
So let's unwrap it.
Look at that. I love sedums because they do they're easier. I feel like they well they do
they can withstand cold temperatures and they come back. So I have a basket outside and it just
I don't do anything to it in winter. I leave it out there looks like it dies and it comes back
in spring. So that's really cool. But look at this little sedum that gets purplish in color.
And it's so like small and intricate. Look at that.
Wow what do you think? I think that's really lovely. It's so cute right? We're learning about
new plants. That's the thing. You guys know I have a lot of tropical plants and I have the
dendrums, the anthuriums, the monstera. But this is a world that you know it's it's always
interesting to learn about other plants too. They all have its benefits you know. Some do
better in certain areas, others in other areas of your home. So it's nice to expand your collection.
Okay so we have some little ones here. My cuteness. My cuteness is a type of chrysula right?
What is it? Chrysula baby's necklace. That's beautiful. I have string of button chrysula
and I like it a lot. You just kind of have to touch these don't you?
Super cute. Again one that gets sun stress it seems like. It gets pink at the edges.
It's very pretty. That's gonna be fun to work with. And then this is
a sedeveria marcus. I'll just show you the name.
Then myself. This one again also has showing some pink in the edges. So again I feel it's
one that gets sun stress and it changes color. I chose some of them and I basically just chose
I thought it would be I like the light green color ones because I think it'd be a nice pop
in an arrangement. And if it has a little bit of pink or sun stressing I thought that would be a
nice idea. Here is another hecheveria. Hecheveria. There's the name. It's a nice again kind of powdery
light green color. Dusty colorish. So guys I need your help. I need you to share with me
more hints or more tips on taking care of hecheverias. I have chrysalis. They do well
for me. I have sedums. They do well for me. Most string offs do good for me. This cocktail
edulidin which I can't pronounce does good for me. But hecheverias it seems like it's a hit
and miss. Some do fine and some after some time don't. And maybe an underwire because I try not
to water them much. Because I know they should be even more resistant. So cute. I have a box full of
cuteness. I love this one. I love this one. Okay hecheveria sp jello. That's really pretty. That's
going to be nice in an arrangement. That's beautiful. Okay let's see what else we have here.
Okay look at that. This is called hecheveria mevipina.
And if you guys are big time into succulents maybe you guys are recognizing these names.
I don't remember seeing these last ones in like Lowe's or Home Depot when I've done
videos on what they've brought. I haven't seen. I don't remember these but in particular
there is just such a wide variety. It's incredible.
They keep on coming. Look at the gifts. This is really pretty too. This is called
hecheveria chihuahuensis. I like the name. Look at that. See the name. That's really pretty.
Very pretty. This is a corpuscularia legmani. It's an ice plant. So ice plants give a little
while y'all always give a little flower but I think this one gives a little bit more of a flower.
I don't know. Ice plant reminds me of a plant that I've seen that gives
more constant flowers but maybe I'm completely confused.
But this is this is going to have an interesting growth pattern. It reminds
me of the cressula kind of you know growing on top of each other in the tower.
I like that and it's a bluish color. It's not just green.
That's really nice. Okay this is another beautiful color one and it's very different.
Again like a dusty silver blue. Hecheveria bionte. That's really pretty. Okay
and the last one here. This is called Graptoveria lovely rose. I know I have a
Graptoveria. I don't remember the the full name of the one I have. It's called lovely rose. It
seems very small and it did lose petals. So what I'm going to do with these is propagate them. Just
kind of sit them on soil like that and let the little baby come out. So that's definitely what
we can do. If they're loose petals and they're not mushy. Is this already rooted? No. Yeah this
one's the only one that lost some petals unfortunately. So I think we didn't get the
full effect of how pretty it would be but it's still going to be fine. It'll grow new little
petals. So sometimes when they're elongated like that I just kind of cut and then put it in soil
if I don't want it to have a long stump like that and it roots. I just don't water it in the beginning
and then start with light waterings maybe after a week or so. Okay okay so that's a lot of goodies
and I have no idea what's in this other box. It's heavy. Oh yay yay I asked for this and I forgot I
asked for this. Wow they sent me a lot. Oh this is soil mix. I asked for pebbles. These are soil mix.
Okay great. I would be happy to try their soil mix. Professional grower organic soil mix. Great
for cactus and succulents. Imported from Denmark. Okay great. It says it has a lot of perlite for
added improved air capacity. Okay great. Great for succulents, cactus. Okay awesome. I'm gonna have to
go buy some and I can try their soil. I'm very happy to see this. Okay yay you can see the rocks.
I love when I put my succulents in a pretty little pot and I put the rocks on top to top it off.
That to me is really really good. Let me open some up. I'm sorry let me clean up this a little bit
and I want to open some up so I can show you how the rocks look. Because I'm always like you know
trying to find some at Walmart. I tried Walmart. You know it's the aquarium with the rocks and I've
tried Lowe's. This one says white onyx. This is to me a big really makes a difference to top it off
with the rocks. And I bought the Dollar Tree ones and I'm going to show it to you guys. They're fine
but for bigger pots because the rocks are bigger. But with little succulents, my lithops,
my little cactuses and our little pots, I want smaller rocks. So these are the rocks. They're
white. They're small and smooth. That's good. It's a good size. So I'll be working these
with these when I do my arrangements. That's beautiful. So I'm going to put in the description
the link to the next gardener and you guys can see the prices of all of these things.
The soils, the succulents. I thought the succulent prices were great. I mean we were talking about
a few dollars. Four dollars, five dollars. Of course maybe you choose a rare one. It's going
to be more expensive. But I did it. I thought that was pretty great to be able to choose the
one you want and not have to hunt for it at a big box store and get it shipped to you. I thought
that was really good. This is Bauxite Gritty Mix. Let's see what that looks like. It is
a mixture of colors. I think that's good. So it's going to be what you like. I'm happy to
have stuff to play with and I'm happy to open these up and show them to you. Maybe you get a
better view of what they look like. Very pretty. You guys need to order it and you can see.
So again this is Bauxite Gritty Mix. Should I put it back in the bag?
Because then later I'm not going to know the name. And we just have one more. Okay this says
made by Nitin. So they have a lot of varieties. I believe I just kind of chose some because I
didn't know what to choose. There are so many. They all look pretty nice. I thought I could
work with all of them. So that is just more of a little clay-ish color. Soft clay color.
That's what it looks like. But from what we can see here they had blue, they had black, they had
lots of different types. So okay well I'm gonna work on getting what I want to use to make the
arrangement. And I want to have fun doing it. So let me go get that and we'll continue doing that
arrangement using these succulents. Okay guys so it's been a few days since I did that unboxing.
I've let all my succulents kind of just sit here in my kitchen. I didn't want to get them exposed
to very high light very immediately because they had been in a closed box. So but they're doing
good. They're pretty stable. I don't think there's a big difference. I also didn't want to transplant
them immediately because they've already gone through some shocking shipping. So it's best to
leave a plant alone for a few days if you can wait and then transplant it. So here we are. It's time
to have fun with them. So I'm going to do a succulent arrangement which I've never done
like something creative like that. I usually put them in individual pots. But I have a lot to play
with here. And I had this here that I had been using for some Haworthias. But they were just
very little Haworthias. It was a very big dish. So I'm going to go ahead and use it for this
arrangement. I'm going to start with a little bit of a filter paper here because I have a big hole
here. So that's going to let the water run through. And I'm going to go ahead and use their soil which
I'm really excited to try. So I'm going to start with the base. I'm going to put a little bit in
too much to get started. So I'm going to do like that. That way you can see like a pot kind of
laying on it. And then you see like plants coming out of the pot. I've always wanted to try that. So
today is going to be the day to try it. So I'm going to re-pot my string of Marubi Nequas.
But I think that's what it's called. But it has also Cecina Capensis Alechi Bailey.
Fancy name. But I think it's just that. Okay. And I have not watered them since they arrived.
They are in need of watering. So as soon as I'm done re-potting I'm going to water them. And
I should have gotten my little scooper. Let me still have to clean things up. Try not to make
such a big mess. Okay. A little space here. It's a recycled terracotta pot. Okay good. Now I'm just
going to have to fill it in. I'm going to go get my scooper because I can't really work without it.
Okay. Got my scooper. And this is one that I got for succulents. I love the little long spout.
And I got it just on Amazon. One that was incredible. The price was really really cheap.
But see how handy it is. I would not be able to do it that easily with my hands.
Okay. So I put a little bit more soil in here. I have this one all planted up.
I'm going to go ahead and water it. And I have this. This is also something that I've had already
before. And it just helps me direct my watering a little better. Like I mentioned they are
dehydrated. They need time for watering. I cannot get over how beautiful this plant is. Look at those
purple stems or I guess I would call it a stem where it's growing out of. It's beautiful.
Okay. So I'm going to lay it down. That. How does that look? Okay I'm going to start like that. Okay
now I'm going to play with putting some succulents here on the top as well.
Kind of like creating a little bow on top.
Beautiful. This is one of the ones that I was super amazed with. Let's play around. See where
we want them. That's the Echeveria jello. This is the Echeveria beyonce. And then we're going to do
which one else? Let's see. This is the Echeveria mebina. I'm just going to place them and then
play with them and look at them. Come back and look at them. This is the Echeveria chihuahuensis.
These are a little bit different. This one will grow more upright. Okay and
this one is Sansevieria marcus.
This one maybe has roots growing out
on the bottom so it's harder to pull out. Oh I like the pop of color of this one.
Okay that's pretty there. Maybe I want to put them a little closer. I just want to create like a crown.
So I think that looks pretty. This is the one that did not lovely rose. This is the one that
lost a lot of petals so it's smaller. Maybe I can squeeze it in here and it grows will be pretty.
So I think that's enough. Make sure that one can grow out. Okay so now I'm going to fill it in with
soil. Okay guys so this is how it's looking so far. I've been filling in the little soil here
in between the plants. Got some soil on top of some of the succulents but that's okay.
Just slightly pushing in. It's going to look really nice at the end when we clean it all up.
Okay so now I'm going to start playing with my soil mixes. Remember I have a white one,
on-site green mix. That's a mixture of color. This is the I'm going to try to see if I can use
all of them. At least two out of three if I can. This is the white mix. I'm going to get started
with the white on the bottom. The white omelette. I'm going to stir it. My little scooper can work
okay.
It's incredible how this little the rocks cleans things up. Makes it look so much neater.
It's going to be good. Okay maybe I'll fill in that little bit.
Okay now I'm going to try this. This is a mixture of all colors.
Maybe I'll just the thin line of one which I think I'll do this one.
Let's bring these strings back down so we can see what we're working with.
This is fun. This is like creative. Like I said it's my first one but it definitely
helps you use your creativity. It's there. Now I'm going to try the other color.
I'll go pick up and go back and pick up all the excess.
So I don't want to waste these rocks. Okay that's nice and full.
Okay so now I'm just gonna probably take it outside. I'm going to blow out all the soil
that's on top of the succulents and then I'll come back and water it with you.
So now with these little tweezers they came in that little succulent care kit. It's all right
here. I have a bunch of different little pieces that came with it and I have not really used it
that much. Okay these tweezers came in handy. I can't the soil I can't get it. The rocks is perfect
for this. Okay and the reason why I put the pot here kind of like I know most people would use
half a terracotta pot that maybe it's broken. It's a great way to recycle it but I just I didn't want
to break the one I had and so then I went ahead and potted it up in here. I want to be able to
water it that's why I kind of didn't tilt it completely flat but if you do have half a terracotta
pot that'd be perfect or ceramic pot whatever we have from what I've seen. So I'm just cleaning
this up. I put my little tweezers away and that's it. Now I want to water it and
it's different because it's the one I have for water so I can be specific. I'm going to try not
to put it on top of the leaves if possible but I don't think anything really happens.
Okay these candies needed watering so I'm so happy to water it.
Okay so what do you guys think? I look forward to seeing it grow. I'm going to have to take
them outside. My plan is to have them outside in my back patio or my front patio where it gets a
lot more sunlight because succulents I know like a lot more sunlight. If not they're going to grow
long and weird and we don't want that you know to look nice and pretty and look at that. So here is
my final product. I think it came out lovely. I didn't use all my succulents. I still have some
left that I'm excited to play with and and see what I'm going to do with these but
like this one keeps flowering. It's so pretty and then this one here I was glad I
seen that it had little flowers as well. Small little flowers. So I just couldn't fit it all in
but I'll pop those up separately. So that's it. Hope you enjoyed. Oh and there is a discount code
15% and I'm going to put it down below so you guys can use it if you want to order. Check it out.
Check out their website. See what they have available. If you guys want to give them a try.
Well 15% off is always something good. So I don't know if there's a lot of you guys succulent
lovers out there. Maybe there is. Maybe there's other like me that you're now getting into it and
learning more about it. So it's always great to learn more about different types of genus of plants.
So it was fun. Thank you. Thank you. I appreciate The Next Gardener for sponsoring this video. You
have a great day. Thank you to look at the next video and we'll keep learning
about plant care and our plant journey together. Bye.
