This is Ian Crockett with Leon Osman at Goodison Park as two of the bottom three teams meet in
the Premier League. It's Everton against Southampton. Everton and Southampton will
both be halfway through their Premier League season after this game and they'll certainly
be hoping that the second half of the campaign will be much much better than the first.
Majority inside Goodison Park hoping for a goal here. Damari Gray takes the corner.
He's up against Elianuisi, maybe a mismatch, certainly in strength. He just keeps him
away with a strong arm, follows the ball all the way onto his head. Only 45 minutes done,
both teams now have an opportunity to get all three points in this second half.
Shea Adams has been picked out, it's a lovely layoff, it's Ward-Prowse into the second half
and Southampton have come alive when it mattered. It's a great driving run from midfield,
good ball forward, Shea Adams sees the run from Ward-Prowse, flips it down and then it's just
all about its quality. Brilliant first touch on the move, takes the second touch inside,
look he sees the space, wonderful first touch, a good little chop inside and Godfrey who's never
going to be able to get there and once he's in that position you just expect to see the ball
hit the back of the goal such as his quality. Wonderful first touch, chops it with him
and strokes it in the corner and we do have a game on our hands. Well he nearly scored at the end of
the first half, he does score at the start of the second. Damari Gray to take this towards
Onana doesn't reach him though, retreat fight it will be, Onana's cross,
Godfrey seems surprised that it got as far as him. He's so capable, we've seen it so many times,
Ward-Prowse to safety and that's a certainly deep Gunnarsson. Big players and you need your
characters to step up and deliver and in this second half it's exactly what James Ward-Prowse
has done. He got his team back into the game with a really good goal just after hard time but this
is trademark James Ward-Prowse, free kick in a good area, he hits them with such pace and accuracy
you see Jordan Pippen didn't even move, Mikhelenko trying to get back onto the line but he doesn't do
it quick enough. Victory for Nathan Jones and Southampton but it's another desperate defeat
for Frank Lampard and Everton.
