There is a performance where the stage is wet with tears and the actors emerge from the pieces of wood There is a performance where people silently stand in the background while the lifeless puppets shine under the stage lights That performance is the water puppetry A form of performing art Embodies the essence of the rice civilization The Red River Delta of Northern Vietnam Please now invite the children to see a monk's room The figures of puppets in folk tales are very familiar and close to home because they are closely tied to the life of Vietnamese countryside These puppets are shaped after folk characters with their entire physique clothing and distinct features Puppeteer is a typical and unique character of traditional water puppetry My soul was originally from the celestial realm Because of love I descended into the human world Usually the first character to appear in each puppet show with a mischievous and simple expression The puppet show leads the audience into the magical world of water puppetry It both stirs and comments on the content of the puppet performance Create a cheerful and close atmosphere between the puppet and the audience Wood used for making floats must first be light weight to allow the float to easily float on the water's surface Throughout history the type of wood commonly used for floats It is mahogany Not only is it light mahogany is also fibrous The wood surface is solid and smooth The wood grain runs in a broken pattern Even if there are some small imperfections the wood will not crack or split Do not use very green wood because it is prone to rot Too old a wooden beam becomes heavy The wooden pieces will be measured and cut according to the height of each puppet Usually the length of the wooden body will be divided into four equal parts According to folk experience the size of the tangle is always one head three bodies That is one part of the body is tangled including the leg part It will be three times the height of the head part The puppet is larger in size than regular puppets The puppet has three separate parts Head two arms and body Because this relates to the distinctive movement of our kind when performing underwater The carved wooden figure has been shaped according to the size of the body and legs The artisan begins sketching with chalk To determine the body and the foot part to prepare for drilling the bone disorder All drilling operations are very meticulous and entirely handcrafted with various examples Initially the drilling process At this point the artisan uses a chisel to carve the large pieces of wood The chest and hips of the elephant Need to have many curves to create a full figure At that time the artisan uses a chisel to carve At the bottom part you have to drill small pieces smaller than the original The hardwood and the mouth So even if you drill the small details Wood also does not break along the gra The image of the chubby little creature gradually takes shape with its own unique stylized features a round face and a round belly The body is strong and sturdy Although the process of drilling the station is not refined Like artistic woodworks But the big difference here That is the movement The puppets are not static wooden walls Beautiful puppetry has value only in terms of sculpture The soul of the water puppet is the movement of the parts of its body to perform actions in the water puppet stories After shaping the parts of the puppet Does the artisan assemble the components into a complete puppet The answer is yes But not yet right now Because after completing the rough parts of the puppet The artisan must perform a very important step You will be surprised when you see this operation The back of the cat is split vertically into two separate sections And it becomes cloudy Until it is empty inside Learn the water puppetry process We discovered some interesting things And if you only watch the water puppetry performance It is difficult to imagine the effect of this hollow body You will find the answer at the final stage of the process Before assembling the puppet into a complete one The puppet parts will be painted This paint serves both to decorate Decorate Bring the puppet characters to life and give them soul At the same time protect the wood from water Prevent mold Durable Looking at the simple rustic puppets But to complete the protective paint layer It takes several months of play Along with a lot of careful and diligent effort Of the artisan's work Because it is not just a simple coat of paint Like other lacquer products Each of these puppets is like that They are all tightly sealed and coated with nearly a dozen layers of lacquer using the refined technique of lacquer painting First are the living paint layers mixed with fine soil to stick to the surface Then the main paint layers Apply evenly and let dry Then sand the label Continue repeating this process So that the paint penetrates the wood grain Creating a smooth glossy surface material Which water and termites cannot penetrate The disciples of the master are not adorned with flashy colors Like the old doctor and other characters But there are also dozens of such lacquers of ours The attire is just a simple piece But the demeanor of the disciple stands out With eyes that shine brightly and a bright smile the peasant artists have come up with a water trick to create joy and relaxation After the hard work all the characters in the country have a very distinctive cheerful and innocent look This is the teacher's character The assembly of parts is carried out At the same time assembling the machine The machine is the main par Channels that connect the upper parts of the puppet To help the artist to actively control the puppet Performing movements activities In the puppet show My remote control is a 2- layer steel frame bent into a U-shape with four round steel rings at the four corners At this point we will see why the body of the counterfeit is hollowed out according to the forger This hollowing out of the body part makes the dummy lighter and creates empty space for the control mechanism The upper parts of the body The head and two arms of the toy are drilled and the steel wire is threaded through them Then it is connected to the machine frame It is placed inside the hollow body The threads will be connected to the two hands Then pass through four round holes This task is called fake surgery After connecting the wires the fraudster reattached the back part of the fraud to the body of the fraud and secured it with nails The sùng wood is very soft Just a few 3-inch nails will make the frame solid as a single piece There is something quite interesting about assembling the parts of a fox It still depends a lot on the way it moves For example the body of the umbrella is divided into several sections which are connected by wires allowing it to move flexibly up and down She bends to till the field her back splits into two parts To be able to move in harmony with the song The design assembly of parts and frame of the machine is the most technical stage in making counterfeit water It requires caution and precision Each counterfeit has its own frame Completely different from each other The artisans who make forgeries work diligently Diligently and passionately Next to such fakes Even wearing the newly made swim trunks the village pond To test how it functions in the water environment Under the resistance of the water But the fake rugs are effective and work well That means each artisan has given life to their own rug Completing that artistic work Unlike other performance forms the performers of the water puppetry do not appear on the stage They stand under the water Hiding behind the curtain Control the puppets using a system of strings Complex strings Requires a high level of performance art skill Accuracy and expression Both stars and ropes have the task of moving the pants and creating movement for the character However stars are used to affect Bottom of the pants The pants can rotate freely The belt uses a remote control With many unique activities Now
