After moving some fish and water hyacinth into the indoor pool pond a couple of days passed and a hard frost hit unexpectedly. The frost took out all of the impatiens I had planted in the front and back garden beds. Hundreds of dead annuals filled 2 dumpsters and 2 lawn bags which got me motivated to go out and buy a ton of mulch then get the fall, winter, spring annuals planted. Mostly I just planted up a bunch of kale. I heavily amend the soil before planting with espoma plant tone and gypsum pellets and this led me to discuss mulch, types and uses a bit. Types of mulch varies a lot and so does the application and uses for the types of mulch.
