We had three days in the Åland Islands to explore as much as we could. We went cycling through the snow, on a mountain hike and tried curling for the first time!
Thanks to the Nordic Blogger's Experience and Visit Aland for getting us there!
Welcome to the Island Islands!
It is so unbelievably cold. We just came to this photo spot of the castle and I just got the drone
up. I can feel my fingers getting frozen. It is that cold but the view is amazing.
Doing it for the shot. I've got to get back on the bus and slip on the ice.
It is, I don't know what it is, it's minus something
and there's snow everywhere. I'm completely freezing.
We're just about to bake bread and I've never done it before. No idea how this is going to go.
You've baked bread before? I've kind of baked.
You used a bread machine? I used a bread machine, yeah.
So now it's for real, the real thing.
We're going to bake two things. We're going to do cinnamon buns.
And then we're going to do a typical bread from Åland, Hemvete.
You ready? Yeah, I'm going to help bake cinnamon buns.
Do I just spread it? Yes, go on and spread it.
This is easier.
Do you want to jump in?
Okay, I'll try that.
And then...
Is that something? Yes, that's good.
He was doing it really fast and you were like...
Fermentation room.
Oh yeah, and here's the finished piece.
We did this.
Thank you.
Cinnamon buns.
I'm going to try it.
It's so good.
That's probably the one I made.
I'm just going to try them all.
The sun's about to set.
It's freezing and we just raced to the top of this hill for this view.
Okay, let's go.
Ready for another day in paradise?
This morning we're going mountain biking through the snow.
Let's go.
Good start to the morning.
Out on the bike.
Going through the snow.
So while I'm rolling down this hill,
let me tell you a fun fact about Åland Islands.
Although it's in Finland,
everyone here actually speaks Swedish
and there's no Finnish required here.
It's a special region of Finland
and sort of between Finland and Sweden
which is why everyone speaks Swedish.
Good start to the morning.
This is as far as the bikes could go
so we just jumped off them
and now we're walking through the woods.
Looks like we definitely shouldn't go this way.
Let's go.
Thank you.
My god, that smells good.
Next up, we've come to the Stauhagen Brewery
to try some locally brewed beer
and have a feast.
Okay, this is it.
This is a raspberry stout
which I've never tried before.
Cheers.
Context raspberry.
I'm really liking dark beers at the moment.
I don't know if I can last these places since Prague.
I've been ordering dark beer
and this is good.
From my expert knowledge of the three, I'll try it.
You want to try it?
I like it too.
Can we do a cheers?
Cheers.
This is mine.
So close.
This is mine.
Yeah, go on then.
Wow.
Right, next up
we're going curling.
We've taken some respite from the cold
and we're about to try curling
for the first time.
Ready to go?
Let's do this.
These are the safety shoes.
This is the dangerous part.
This is probably one of my worst ideas.
First attempt.
Let's try this.
I'm pretty happy with that.
Go, go, go, go, go.
I tried to let go and it's hard.
We've just learned a little bit
how to play
and now we're going to play a game against each other.
Are you okay?
I think so.
That's a million dollars right there.
But you're good?
Very good.
Crazy two days in the Arland Islands.
It's been really cool to see this place.
We were meant to be leaving
back to Helsinki now
but our ship couldn't go
so instead we're heading to Tallinn, Estonia.
Random
but awesome.
Check the next video to see that
but for now, thank you for watching
and this is my life.
