Oh wait Kitty! I can't match your speed.
I'm too old now.
Well, sometimes I wish I was as energetic as when I was baby Binox.
But old age gets us all.
Everyone gets old.
Hey! This is a great topic to explore.
What say friends?
Have you ever wondered why do we age or get old?
I'm sure you did.
So in today's episode, let us learn more about this aging issue.
And find the answer to the question we all go through.
And that is, why do we age or get old?
Zoom in!
Getting old is an inevitable part of life.
And none of us are spared from this natural process of aging.
We are born.
We become teens.
Then adults.
And then our bodies age and start showing symptoms like graying and thinning hair.
Weakening bones.
Diminished brain function.
And losing our ability to hear and see effectively.
And finally meeting our end.
But the critical question is, why does this happen?
Why do we age in the first place?
Well, aging occurs due to a variety of external and internal factors.
Such as environmental stress.
Like sunlight and contaminated air.
Water and the food we intake which cause changes in the structure.
And function of the body's molecules in the cells.
These changes contribute to the cell's damage and repair process.
And drive their decline, speeding the aging process.
But apart from these, we have a biological factor that affects our aging process.
And that factor is our cells.
The very essence of life.
Because as we grow old, the process of cellular regeneration declines with time.
Our DNA in our cells is stored as tightly wrapped strands.
Which form structures called chromosomes.
The end of each chromosome has two protective regions called Telomere.
And every time the cell replicates, the Telomere shrinks.
And when it becomes too small, cells stop replicating and die.
Slowing the body's ability to renew itself.
Along with losing our ability to replicate cells.
Our immune system becomes less keen over time.
And loses the ability to interpret the difference between our cells and enemy cells.
And because of all this confusion.
Your immune cells may attack your own body in a phenomenon called autoimmunity.
Apart from this, other factors affect aging as well.
Like a decrease in the number of stem cells that can divide and replenish other cells.
Affecting tissue renewal and proper functioning of our organs.
There is a lot scientists still don't know about the aging process.
But hopefully, as time grows old and technology advances.
We might be able to live longer and stay younger for an extended time.
