(Premier League 2022/2023): Highlights Manchester City - Everton

21 points between the two clubs today, but both will hope they can start their New Year's celebrations early as the reigning champions Manchester City host relegation-throttled Everton in the Premier League here at the Etihad Stadium. Manchester City and Everton. Bernardo Silva back to De Bruyne. Grealish plays it across to Mares. Mares dancing. Nathan Hackey keeps this one in. Just start the attack again. And Everton are a touch bare in midfield, but City move it so quickly. This is brilliant from Kevin De Bruyne, just a flick round the corner. I thought maybe Grealish could have had a shot from there, but he picked out Riyad Mahrez, he twists, he turns Mikalenko inside and out, and then the ball comes to Erling Haaland's feet and you think there's only going to be one outcome. I say, I think it took a little deflection from Pickford that actually takes it away from Kona Kody on the line, but I don't think that matters, the way City cut through Everton's defence. Mares or De Bruyne. It will be De Bruyne. Good delivery from Stones. Made sure they had the advantage at the break. What will the next 45 hold? And we are back underway by Idrissa Gueye. And now Damari Gray has got space in front of him to chase down. Dominic Calvert-Lewin is making his way in. Just when they needed it most. Starts from a bit of sloppiness in midfield from Rodrique. Gives the ball to Idrissa Gueye, and from there, he releases Damari Gray and he's direct. Gets inside that Man City penalty area, and then you think, is he going to play the overlap? Is he going to reward Mikalenko for that overlapping run? But he doesn't, he uses it as a distraction. He cuts inside, there's no pressure from Man City, he doesn't have time to slip over and get back up, but once he does, talk about picking your spot. Talk about hitting it right in that postage stamp. Ederson doesn't have a chance of saving that, it's a brilliant finish. Exactly what Everton needed to get back into this game. And Seamus Coleman gets it away. De Bruyne, back through to Mahrez again. De Bruyne, didn't quite get the pass, but it's De Bruyne again, blocked by Everton. Mahrez! Chance after chance. Really good passage of play. And Everton eventually defended well. Mahrez plays it to Gundogan. Mahrez again, looking for... Owens couldn't get on the end of it. Well, as chances come, that's as big as they are. Well, that is that.
