Hey, what's up gardener friends? How's everybody doing? I hope you're good. I'm great. I'm for a
garden tour and I'm just showing you the sky. It is very hot outside today. I might have to breeze
through kind of quickly because my irrigation's also shut off because they're here repairing a
leak and too hot to not have water so I'm watering and filming and watering. Things are all over the
place as usual but uh this is probably going to be the last garden tour where things are still
looking like summery I guess I should say and there are going to be some changes like I'm taking
these potato vines out of here today and that'll be in the vlog that comes out I guess right after
this. The whole explanation behind that it's it's a whole long story. They take up too much nutrient.
I need to get systemics and things in there and just clear that out because I have to bring these
plants in in several weeks so gotta get them out of there. They're just they're so pretty but they're
just too much. Apparently the potato vines are where we're starting the tour so that's here they
are. They aren't looking fantastic I will say and that's partially because my dogs they get in the
pool and they like to run around them in circles and they tear them up. They tear them up big time.
So those are gonna go. Yeah see what I'm talking about everything is so thirsty. Not an ideal time
to do a garden tour but I mean just supposed to get hotter. I don't know how long the irrigation
is going to be off so just got to do it. I want to make sure to update containers. I forgot to do
that in the last few so here are all of the cactus and succulent containers. This has the hardy cactus
in it and then all these guys up here there's a little sansevieria tucked back in there as well.
This echeveria and the one on the other side of it those are doing really really well. These are
the echeverias and this bulb planter down here they're doing really well too. Sempervivums
aren't really doing much but that cactus that's in there from that video the one that had uh
been missing some sun and water for a little while it's starting to fill back out and recover
which is awesome. Tiny new pads on the opuntia which is great. I'm currently also being stabbed
by a yucca. And this portulaca. Portulaca is doing great. Also is my lens starting to fog up? Is the
sun too strong? Oh no. Yeah here's all that portulaca looking great. Hummingbirds and butterflies are
loving it. Here's that lespedip. Okay I have to let the lens warm up. I'll be right back. Okay
there we go. Sorry about that. It's hot enough that I do have to kind of let the lens acclimate
to the heat for a little while. But as I was saying here is that lespedeza. I mentioned in
the last tour they had uh it wouldn't probably be until this month that I could really show it off
in its full glory but it is just glooming like insanity. It's what it does. These shrubs also
I'm right it's right see the this guy's right behind me so if that's really loud I'm sorry.
For me this has been an amazing shrub partially just because I don't have to do anything to it.
I did supplement it with a little bit of iron this year which I haven't had to do in the past
but I plopped this thing in the ground a few years ago and I honestly have not touched it except for
cutting it back in the fall. That's really it. So perhaps if you've been trying this that's not
working for you maybe you know only water it in that first season that you put it in the ground
to get it established and then maybe just leave it alone and don't touch it. I that's I can't
really give any tips and tricks for it because I don't do anything for it. It just grows and
stays lovely. The hummingbirds and bees and butterflies absolutely love it and the flowers
are teeny teeny teeny tiny and a lot of them are actually starting to go out right now and while
it is messy it does leave a nice carpet of pretty pink flowers that I get to sweep up which is fun
but that's enough about that. My pride and joys. Vanilla strawberries yeah they are losing their
buds they're starting to drop their flowers that's normal they've been in flowers since like
I want to say early July maybe late June so I'm not really too surprised about that. I'm going to
come in here and get these all cut out and cleaned up and that's just kind of the way it goes. Not the
prettiest thing to look at but they've been in flower for a very long time and yet you see that
that's from the irrigation being turned off. I've been watering like crazy. I don't know they may not
make it through the heat the next couple days without having the irrigation on. I'm just going
to do my best to keep coming in and out with watering cans and see what I can do. Pretty sad
isn't it? But you know they're going to have to be cut back really soon anyway so I guess it's not
the end of the world is what it is have to get the leak fixed so oh well. Look at these Rocca Polka
Double Impatience. This variety is Coral Reef from Proven Winners. They are doing wonderfully over
here in the shady area of the garden as well as this Persian Shield doing great. Everything else
is really kind of taking off and doing its thing getting a little bit crowded and messy but it's
end of the year. It's sort of what they do. They have an Encore Azalea. That's not an Encore. It might be
an Encore. I can't remember but the Azalea is in bloom again. Bloom-a-thon. It's a Bloom-a-thon
Azalea. I don't remember what varieties. Maybe it doesn't. I don't know. It doesn't even matter. Never
mind. Alacajas that we put down here in this. Oh falling over. Falling over. The Alacajas over here.
We planted these in the berm in I want to say May and they're doing very very very well. Not much
uh only because the sun just it's not as much back here as it used to be not with the oak and
the maples and everything growing but that's okay. Castor beans are taking off and being huge.
Startled the tortoise. I'm sorry Colby. Yeah look how big that castor bean's gotten. That's the castor
beans and the brunces. Absolutely massive. I mean do you see that? It's almost as big as the palm.
Thing's just huge. Then down here in the front of this garden bed. Very overexposed from the sun.
Sorry about that. Those are the Bikini Teenie Alacajas and they are doing well as are the bananas
that are in the backdrop right behind them. Fruit on the ponseris. The uh trifoliate orange. Japanese
bitter orange. Starting to well turn orange which is fun. I don't usually do that until wintertime
so I was surprised by that. More lovely tropical goodness happening down here. You can see these
impatiens have just really taken off. Really too big. I used the compact variety. They have a
landscape variety with the sun impatiens. There's a landscape variety and a compact variety and I
used the compact and they're still really just a little bit too big. I was filming that with that
kind of lighting. I'm so sorry. I guess that's not that much better. Never mind. Big alacajas are
doing well too. Gorgeous bubblegum pink blooms coming out of the seminal pink hibiscus which
the pollinators enjoy and so does the tortoise. This guy is actually covered in buds right now.
It's kind of sad. I did, I just watered this one not too long ago so hopefully, hopefully the heat
the next couple days won't do it in. Purple fountain grass starting to purple up and look a
lot better. You can see this heuchera not doing great with the heat. I'm actually going to move
all of these planters into the shade here I think because it's just, it's going to be way too hot
for them. Particularly the kales and cabbages meet 95 degrees. They're gonna bolt. They're already
starting to bolt. Over here is that Tahitian flame hedichium butterfly ginger that was potted up
several weeks ago or I think, I think it was several weeks ago. It's really taken off. Got
lots of new growth on it and looking really good. Some buds showing up here on the heliconia. This
is heliconia hirsuta costa flores. Got off to blooming a little bit late this year but I'm just
happy it's blooming. These have really pretty flowers on them. I love this heliconia. All right
over here you can't really tell. This is hibiscus confection perfection. It went out of bloom a few
days ago by the time lapse so hopefully that's playing right now and you can see it. I did get
that time lapse started a little bit late so it's okay. It was still pretty giant huge flowers on
that one. Oh that feels absolutely glorious but it's too loud. Back here it's the spindle palms.
The impatiens again compact variety but they're just huge. I'm actually almost looking forward
to cutting them out because they're really kind of dwarfing and blocking the trunks on the spindle
palms which is one of the neat things about spindle palms. So that's all going to be gone by
the next tour maybe. I don't know. These are the sun impatiens are a little bit more cold tolerant
than regular impatiens so sometimes the frost doesn't kill them back right away so maybe they
might still be around. I'm not sure. Look at these gorgeous flowers on that anthurium. Aren't those
beautiful? They're absolutely huge too. Each one of those flowers is probably close to
six inches from the kind of the top area to the bottom. I have them stuffed back in the
shade a little bit because it's hot and I move those right away because they'll respond to heat
very very quickly so those were a priority of mine to get them tucked back so they don't scorch.
Yeah I love the flowers on them. This one over here has been getting a little bit more sun so
the flowers aren't quite as big but it's still really really pretty. Over here in the pool pond
this is the aquatic planter put together a few weeks ago. It is already taking off. Looking really
good. You can see there's new growth coming out of the bottom. The alocotna alocasias,
the black coral elephant ears, the black coral colocasias. Those didn't have any leaves on them
when planted this up and they have two and I think there's a third one getting ready to pop open.
I really love those. I would have really enjoyed this planter with the um what was it the tropicana
in there but I just I couldn't find any so the indigo works fine but next year the tropicana
that's gonna add so much more color to this that's gonna look really really cool. Got my
fiddle leaf fig back here which I don't think I've ever talked about so no reason to update you on
that one but there it is. Curcuma is in bloom. Lots of flowers on this guy. It's actually gotten too
top heavy so I need to stake it together. It's kind of falling apart. Oyster plants are looking
really pretty. This is a kalamondin orange that got potted up again several weeks ago. Lighting's
not on my side today I'm so sorry but I filled this with little cuttings from the oyster plants
and they're really taking off and being very very pretty. Sorry about the background noise.
There's some kind of construction going on. I don't know what it is. I apologize. It's very
loud and obnoxious though. Okay I guess let's go out front now. Wait hold on. How could I forget
about the Thai giants? These guys have gotten giant. They are massive which is unusual. It's
what they do. They'd be even bigger if they're getting more sun but the angle of the sun changed
as it does as the seasons change. They're stretching out a little bit more but I mean
they're very very very large and right in front of the gate which isn't ideal but it's too pretty
cut so I've just been walking through it. It's fine. I just deal with it. It's okay. It's no
problem. Just walk right through here see. No big deal. Just like that. These are the planters I put
in the driveway with the variegated epaulette, the sweet potato vines in them and they are growing
like crazy. The side of the house actually. I need to pull those off. The nseptmoreliais. These are
the red obsidian bananas. Doing well too. A little bit scorched from being on top of the pavement but
they actually made a good recovery. They almost died in the heat we had in July so this is actually
pretty good. They're looking pretty good considering all all of that. And over here is that garbage
planter we tossed together. I just threw clearance plants in here and divided up a hanging basket
that had some vinca in it. Not really too impressive but I actually had to reduce the
spray on this sprinkler head here because it was getting watered way way way too much but that
cordyline in the middle doing wonderfully. It has put on lots of new growth. The milkweed
though it doesn't really fit in here. The butterflies have spent a lot of time on it
which is great. And then the little snow banana that's back here is doing really well too. These
get really cool kind of like a spindle shaped trunks on them and I'm not sure if that's going
to show or not. I can't see my viewfinder with the sun but that's gonna keep growing and get really
cool someday. Over here I have the little cactus and succulent garden. This is just kind of because
nothing else will grow here between the two pavements and occasionally people drive through
here when they're backing out. Doing a lot better. I went ahead and I threw some gravel in here,
fertilized, added compost. That was in a vlog a while ago and it's doing well. As well as this
yucca ricervifolia. Sorry that it's backlit but it has responded very well from being hooked up
to irrigation. Seeing a lot of new growth out of it. It just seems, looks much much much healthier.
The foliage is coming out more stiff and green and lush. It's just, it's a happier plant. Oh those
are some pretty clouds. There's my lawn. Doesn't that look attractive? I had to dig it up to try
and find the leak. And here we can see, look at that. Look at how bad the damage is from having
sprinklers off from just one day and they're not gonna be back on until hopefully tomorrow so
I don't know. This might be the kiss of death for these guys too. I'll do what I can but I can only
hand water so many things. These are the strawberry vanilla hydrangea paniculatas that got planted
a few weeks ago and they're doing well. Looking nice. This is one of the alocasias, uh maybe
wentei. I'm not positive of the variety name. They have a much darker leaf on them. Purple
veining. Very very pretty. You can see these vanilla strawberries are starting to kind of get
a hint of pink on them which is nice. Then here's that little patch of plants through together to
kind of tidy this up a little bit and it's actually spread and taken over and looking a lot
better than I thought it would in just a couple weeks. And one of my favorite parts that's looking
really really sad. The impatient hedge. Not even really a hedge. It's absolutely everywhere. These
guys are going like crazy and taking over. But yeah, again not looking great without irrigation.
Not looking good at all actually. Hopefully they'll pull through and they can hold on for just
one more day. That's what I'm hoping but I don't know. Gotta keep my fingers crossed. I mean look
how big these have gotten. There's barely even a pathway here. And I planted them further back
this year so that this wouldn't happen. I don't know. I don't really care honestly. They're so
pretty. I'm like people can, they can make it work. I'm not cutting them back. They're too pretty.
Next year I'll plant them even further back because look at how, look at how narrow this is.
Look at how big these dragon's wing begonias have gotten. These were the ones that I picked up from
Walmart back in May for like 25 cents a hanging basket because they got shipped them too early
and they got frost damage on them. They were really small when I planted them and they have
just taken off. They like this location a lot. I say they because there's one over here too.
But I'm always more drawn to this one. I play favorites with my plants. I can't help it.
I'm not positive when the next tour will be but once the frost hits these guys are kind of toast
so might be the last time you see them. I don't know. Every fall here is different. Sometimes
they'll keep going well into November. Sometimes by the second week of October they're done. You
just never know. Columnar blue spruce has put out a lot of new growth too. I have been getting in
here and trying to prune out the stuff because I don't want it up against that plant. It'll
cause dieback on the evergreens. You don't want that. They just, they keep filling in so fast.
I can barely keep up with it. And uh, Japanese maple's not looking very good. I actually had an
arborist come out to look at this because I couldn't quite figure out what was going on and
they said it could be a versilum rot, verbiage, it's a fungus. You'll know what I'm talking about
probably. I'll look it up if I got it wrong and put that in there. But basically we won't know
until next year so we'll have to keep our fingers crossed and I don't know this tree may have to go
which is sad because it's absolutely beautiful. Look at the trunk on it. It has a beautiful trunk
but if it has that fungus it's not gonna make it. It's hard to say. There have been a lot of issues
with maples and crab apples this year because we had a warm-up in the spring, in the early spring,
that kind of got things going and then it cooled off and became winter for all of April. It was
really cold so they budded and then the cold got them. So a lot of maples and crab apples were
looking kind of junky this year as well as my rose of Sharon was looking pretty bad but it
bounced back okay. I don't know. Have to wait and see unfortunately. But hey at least the
impatiens are looking good. I mean they look thirsty but they're very full and very very lush
and pretty. Not as much when you get further down here. There's less sun over here. Oh and here's
that sago palm that was on basically death's door several months ago. It is recovered and looking
wonderful. It's hard to see from here but it actually has a pretty decent trunk under there
too so I'm really happy about that. I actually need to dig this guy up and get it potted up so
I can bring it in the winter time. Sometimes when plants are struggling and just not doing what they
should I'll stick them in the ground if it's early enough in the year because sometimes they'll
recover a lot better in the ground than in a pot and then I'll pot it back up. I have to remember
to pot them back up before the weather cools off because then they're not gonna root at all into
their new pots and then you kind of just start the cycle all over again. And the mule plums are
looking really good too. I'm actually gonna be coming in here and cutting a lot of their foliage
out because I need to encourage them to flush out what they're ready to flush out before winter gets
here and they still have some of their dead foliage on from last winter so that's okay. I'm gonna come
there trim those out pull all the potato vines out. I might do creeping jenny in these next year.
I'm not sure. I have some that I might plop in them now to experiment with and see how I like.
I just don't know how creeping jenny is going to do when it gets really really hot in like July
and August with this dark pavement here. I feel like it'll crisp up and die. I'm not certain. If
anybody has any suggestions feel free to comment down below let me know what you think would look
good in here. I will always put petunias in here because I love them. But as far as what else,
maybe I'll just do petunias and say forget everything else. I might do that. I've done
that before and it looked pretty good. Oh your neck is broken I'm so sorry. Trying to film you
butterfly hold still. Okay but that's gonna do it. Fairly brief kind of chaotic sort of
just because it's so hot the camera's gonna overheat if I draw it on for too terribly long.
So I apologize for that and for the shakiness. I'm not really using my tripod like I should.
But again it takes a lot longer to film. I have to move my tripod around constantly.
I really just wanted to make sure I got this done and didn't forget to do it. You can see
I just watered this guy in not too long ago. It's already bouncing back. Variegated pineapple
staying pretty. So yeah that's that's gonna do it. Hope everybody's doing well. Comment down below
