It was dreadfully cold; it was snowing fast, and was almost dark, as evening came on—the last evening of the year. In the cold and the darkness, there went along the street a poor little girl, bareheaded and with naked feet. When she left home she had slippers on, it is true; but they were much too large for her feet, slippers that her mother had used until then, and the poor little girl lost them in running across the street when two carriages were passing terribly fast. When she looked for them, one was not to be found, and a boy seized the other and ran away with it, saying he would use it for a cradle some day, when he had children of his own. So on the little girl went with her bare feet, that were red and blue with cold. In an old apron that she wore were bundles of matches, and she carried a bundle also in her hand. No one had bought so much as a bunch all the long day, and no one had given her even a penny. Poor little girl! Shivering with cold and hunger she crept along, a perfect picture of misery! The snowflakes fell on her long flaxen hair, which hung in pretty curls about her throat; but she thought not of her beauty nor of the cold. Lights gleamed in every window, and there came to her the savory smell of roast goose, for it was New Year's Eve. And it was of this which she thought. In a corner formed by two houses, one of which projected beyond the other, she sat cowering down. ......

Clown Girl
It was very cold every day,
The weather drops rapidly,
It was almost dark at night,
It is the last day of the year.
In the cold and in the dark,
A poor little girl was walking down the street,
Legs unscathed.
When she came home,
She wears shoes.
This is the truth,
But her legs are too big,
Her mother had been wearing shoes,
Until that moment,
That poor little girl.
throw them into the street,
When the two cars go very fast,
When she looks at them,
One of them was not found,
The boy saw another truck,
and ran away,
He said he would use the truck.
When he had children of his own,
He will use that truck.
Wearing red and blue.
unsullied legs.
the old clothes she was wearing
It's a bunch of shirts,
She also had a bunch of shirts in her hand.
Nobody all day.
So much for her,
No one gave her a dime,
cold,
And hungry,
She walked around,
It is a perfect picture.
Those snowflakes
Falling on her hair and hair,
On her lips
Hiding the beautiful hair,
But she didn't think
her beauty,
I didn't even think about the cold.
The light shines on every window,
Then she heard
The smell of roses,
Because it's New Year.
That's what she thought.
In the corner of the two buildings,
One building surpasses another,
She sat and lay.
with her little footsteps on her,
But she still gets cold,
But she was brave enough not to go home,
Because she didn't sell anything,
No money either.
Her father would surely beat her,
in addition,
The house is cold,
Because they only have houses,
The biggest hole though.
filled with bottles and trash cans,
But there are many
You can make the cold wind sound.
Now her little hand.
Almost everything was cold.
However,
a match
It might be good for her,
If she could only get it out of the bag
Wipe it,
Then warm it with your fingers,
Finally she made one.
Wish,
It will light up.
It gives a warm glow,
Like a small light,
She put her hand on it.
It was a beautiful little light.
The little girl looked up.
It's like sitting in front of a big iron.
With iron feet and knives and chopsticks
So mercifully burned,
The little master
Stretch out with your feet
It warms them too.
How comfortable she is!
But it sucks!
The fire burned,
The gizzard disappeared,
All the rest
There was only the scorched gash in her hand.
She used another tool.
It's on the stick.
It glows,
When the light falls on the lamp,
It becomes transparent,
It's like a piece of shit,
Let her see
Put it in the room.
Snow-white towel
Spread on the table,
It was a beautiful Chinese dinner.
A roasted cheese.
stuffed with cherries and mushrooms,
enthusiastically
It smells the most delicious.
And even more wonderful,
That milk.
Jumped out of the box,
The knife and handle are still on its chest,
Then from the table
Jump to the little girl.
But that game was over,
She has nothing,
Only thick,
The perilous wall.
She lights up in another match,
Now she is lying under the most beautiful Christmas tree,
bigger and rougher
Than she is in a rich store
One hundred percent of the iron.
roasted on the green,
And the daylight she saw was like
In the window of the store,
All look to her.
The little girl held out her hand,
Then the match ended.
But the light of the Christmas tree
Still rising high.
She now sees them as
In the stars of heaven,
One of them fell,
It formed a long volcano.
Now someone is dying.
The little girl said quietly,
Because of her grandmother,
Her favorite person,
Those who are now dead,
told her,
Every time a star falls,
The soul will rise.
She was in another match.
She saw the walls of heaven,
It is bright again,
And the light there.
appeared in front of her
My dear grandmother.
She's open and aboveboard,
But still sweet and gentle,
She looked at the earth
"Oh, Grandmother."
The little girl cried.
"Come with me."
"I knew you would leave."
The match burned.
You will also disappear,
Just as warm,
A beautiful Christmas,
A beautiful Christmas tree.
Unless her grandmother disappears,
She wiped out the entire wall of the wall here,
And the wall burned so brightly,
It gets brighter at midnight.
Her grandmother never looked up.
So huge and beautiful.
She held the little girl,
Then the two flew together after the King Dance,
Fly over the high ground,
And to them,
They are not hungry,
There is no cold,
There is no disgrace,
They are all with God.
But in the corner,
At midnight on Sunday,
She sat on the wall
Red eyes, smiling mouth
It's freezing cold
in the last year of last year
She sat there
Cold and hard
layers of fabric
It's all burned down
She wants to warm herself up
Poor little thing, people said.
No one imagined what sweet visions she had had
or how gloriously she had gone with her grandmother
to enter upon the joys of a new year.
