This is going to be one heck of a
pitching matchup maybe the two
best pitchers in the American
League right now Pablo for the
twins and Garrett Cole for the
New York Yankees Cole's been
great so far with a three and
Omar in a one point four oh we
are a twenty two strikeouts in
nineteen in the third inning's
pitch swing and a miss down goes
Julián start to oh and then all
of a sudden boom boom boom
strikeout overpowering fastball
up in the strike zone little
humpback line drive on one hop
to Torres and he gets Correa for
now Cole's one two struck him
out swing took a terrible hack.
The ball was already in the
middle of Trevino.
Well Cole has a one two three
out of a half Pablo Lopez
starts game four.
He had a rough start to his most
recent start but then made a
quick adjustment and dominated
the White Sox.
He struck him out swinging
climbed the ladder at ninety
seven up and inside lined in the
left center field.
It's a base hit two out single
for Rizzo his 17th hit the year
ground ball and three for a base
hit under the glove of Solano as
Rizzo stops at second and that
takes care of it.
Two hits left the board a
scoreless first.
There is his cousins at the game
Lin Manuel Miranda.
How cool is that.
This is the genius that wrote
Hamilton sees himself on.
Yes he gets all excited.
That's right.
Watching his cousin play.
Pretty cool hit on the ground a
third double play ball feed
second one on the first.
It's a double play of five four
four three D.P. Wild pitch
advancing the runner two cracks
at a base hit for a run a little
dribbler down third going to be
a tough play.
Miranda barehands fires got him
on the third goes Cabrera Lopez
the stretch and a payoff pitch
is strike three Cole Hicks
strikes out looking Yankees
leave a man at third after two
no score.
Now here's Cole's one two to
Kepler strike three inside
corner one away.
Now that strikeout gives Cole
one thousand nine hundred and
fifty five in his career ties
Bobby Witt senior for 98 on the
all time list.
And next up is Whitey Ford.
This has been a long standing
one here.
This has gone on a long time and
Severino is talking like
nothing's happening.
Now Cole's three to struck him
out swinging high fastball.
That was ninety eight.
Now he got it.
Just a thirty fifth walk issued
by the twins staff this year and
the breaking ball is low inside
one another.
Now they're saying it brushed
him.
You can't really tell if it
changes directions off the foot.
Well the twins are using their
challenge and the Yankees are
either going to have runners at
first and second and one out or
Rizzo is going to have to come
back to the plate.
After you the call on the field
stands hit by Pitts Minnesota
will lose their challenge two
down and now it's LeMahieu
Lopez trying to straddle two
more runners.
Runners go.
That one's line to right field.
It is a base hit in front of
Kepler.
Judd scores easily moving to
third as Rizzo hits an RBI
single for LeMahieu and the
Yankees lead one nothing.
And every time you see LeMahieu
in the way he handles the bat
you understand what was missing
last year.
That ball came into him.
So he went the opposite way with
that line drive swing Pablo from
the stretch runner stay and the
one want to swing to fly ball
right center playable Taylor to
his left.
He'll call and catch it out
number three.
But the Yankees score one leave
two at the end of three.
We go to the fourth Yankees have
a one nothing lead.
Garrett Cole has not allowed a
hit swing and a miss a great
breaking ball down and in.
He is a strikeout machine.
Now that strikeout ties Cole
with the chairman of board
Whitey Ford and here is Buxton.
How about that Buxton strikes
out Cole strikes out the side.
Now Cole moves ahead of Whitey
Ford.
It'll be the top of the Yankee
order Volpe judge and Rizzo
ground it and grab backhand by
Moran the long throw not infield
single and a pitch.
Swung on a missed elevated
fastball got him to chase six
strikeouts.
Now for Pablo Lopez Werner goes
it's a stolen base for Volpe a
seventh of the year.
No throw from Vasquez as Lopez
is eighty third pitch breaking
ball ground ball a shortstop
Correa gobbles it up strong
throw to retired Torres and ends
the threat they strand him at
second LeMahieu base hit RBI his
last time up.
That's it.
One nothing Yankees high fly
ball right.
He's on the track.
See a homerun just over the
leaping try of Kepler into
portions to nothing.
David John makes long gone.
He homers to right and the
Yankees take a two nothing lead
and LeMahieu is knocked in both
Yankee runs with a single and a
homerun eight strikeouts one
walk allows just two hits over
six innings.
His pitch total is in good shape
at eighty four.
Byron Buxton will lead off
against Cole strike three
strikeout number nine.
And what do you say Michael.
I mean it's pretty much a clinic
very tough day to be a hitter
for the Minnesota Twins.
High fly ball deep right going
back Cabrera on the track makes
the play Cabrera went back and
look who's it very high.
And he waited and he waited and
then he saw it right against the
fence and put his glove up and
Garrett Cole was laughing
because he had no idea.
Is it gone.
And the pitch is grounded a
short Volpe near second throws
to first and Garrett Cole has
another one two three.
It's been great.
Absolutely great Yankees with a
two nothing lead Solano pops it
up and see if there's room.
Did he make the catch.
He tumbles over into the
dugout.
Does he have the ball.
He does not have the ball but
what an effort by Trevino swing
and a miss strikeout number ten
for Garrett Cole.
That's his twenty third game
with double digit strikeouts and
he ties Ron Gittler for the most
in Yankee history.
Soft ground ball a first base
Rizzo steps on the bag to get
Kepler two away up the middle.
Nice hop there for Volpe.
He stays with it.
And that's an easy one two three
inning.
And Garrett Cole has another one
two three inning and very few
pitches.
No action right now in the
Yankee bullpen.
Ninety eight pitchers for Cole
through eight innings.
So Garrett Cole will try to spin
a complete game here on a Sunday
afternoon in the Bronx.
So face nine one and two.
So from 0 2 to 3 2.
Here's the payoff swung on and
popped him up shallow right.
Who's going to catch it.
It's Gleyber Torres out to make
a little basket catch one away
and the pitch upstairs two and
one and now a conference on the
mound.
And that's what they figured out
with this clock trying to close
out a complete game.
You have a tendency to really
start to concentrate more slow
down a little bit.
But the pitch clock does not
allow you to do that.
We're a little conference call
you had at the mound.
Give him a little break looped
in the left field coming on his
hits.
He's there one out away one
hundred and eight pitches one
out away from a complete game
shutout.
He's allowed two hits one walk.
And here's Correa.
Hot right center going back as
Judge Cabrera is the game
shutout for the Bronx ball game
over.
Yankees win the Yankees.
Oh and Garrett Cole was
phenomenal today.
Everything working overpowering
fastball.
They let their ace finish it out
one hundred and nine pitches it
took.
