Let's put the spotlight on Shohei Ohtani as he makes a start with three days rest.
He's had heroics against Kansas City.
He's pretty much had heroics against every team he's ever played against.
Bobby had eight hits on the homestand, which included two doubles, a triple.
Quickly ahead 0-2 on Witt Jr.
Swing and a miss.
Off to a good start there.
One down and the first strikeout for Shohei.
Egypt's 89 right away.
But the more he's played, the more he's delivered.
Let him play baseball.
Let him go out.
And that's exactly what he's done.
Oh, another one.
The sweeper gets Melendez to down.
Back to back cage.
Shohei's got that slider already dialed in.
The numbers regarding Ohtani as a pitcher are just simply incredible.
He's just got it all working.
And going up three downs.
Taylor Clark, as a Royal, has been a reliever.
But he's made 20 Major League starts.
And this will be his first since 2020.
But he's expected to go one, maybe two innings.
Two hops.
And Nicky Lopez throws out Ward.
One away.
Big applause for the starting pitcher.
The MVP, the runner-up to the MVP last year.
Salve wants the ball down.
And it is.
Out of the strike zone.
And Clark gets Ohtani for the second out of the inning.
Off the end of the bat.
Shallow center.
And Isbell is there.
So Clark matches Ohtani with a 1-2-3 first inning.
And there are two outs now in the top of the second.
Lefty swinging Isbell.
Oh, another strikeout to end the inning.
His fourth of the night.
Two strong innings from Showtime.
Ryan Yarbrough is now in.
So he is the bulk pitcher tonight.
It's a lefty.
Zach Netto on at first base.
Chad Wallach the batter.
Last May, caught the no-hitter from Reid Detmers.
And hit a home run in the game.
How about it?
Chad Wallach with some power.
And he does it.
The Angels take a 2-0 lead.
He's had a good spring as far as numbers in AAA.
He's carried in that first at bat.
That's a pretty good slugging percentage now for Chad Wallach.
Lowest opposing average in March and April since 1920.
So over 100 years.
Minimum 70 innings.
And Shohei Ohtani is at the top of the list.
And look at the names on there.
Like Pedro Martinez and Bob Feller.
1-2.
Did he?
Yes, he went on that one.
Yes, he did.
Another strikeout for Ohtani.
One down.
Shohei really looks good tonight.
And that's already five strikeouts for him.
MJ at second.
Vinny at first.
One out.
The batter will be Salvador Perez.
There's a ground ball.
Fielded beautifully by Neto.
Over to second.
Turns to fourth.
Coming up.
2-0 Angels.
Ohtani second.
And that brings up Jackie Bradley Jr.
Swing and a miss.
He got him.
And you see Bradley Jr. out in front of that.
Trying to stay back.
He did.
Yes.
It stopped a bit there.
Brings up Bobby Witt Jr.
Remember, he got him to chase a couple of those sweepers.
Well off the plate last time.
Got the four-seamer at 98.
Two down.
Back-to-back strikeouts.
Yeah, when you can paint 98 right on that outside corner,
just above the knees, there's just nothing he could do there.
Oh, my goodness.
71 on that curveball.
It's just not fair.
Second inning where Ohtani strikes out the side.
Ryan Yarbrough, the Royals' second pitcher of the night
by design.
Continues to work.
This will be his fourth inning of work.
And that's going to get through for base hit for Taylor.
That's a really good piece of hitting with two strikes.
That's the kind of a bat that can get you going.
For Ohtani to bat for a third time.
He has struck out swinging.
Flied to center.
Runner at first.
Nobody down.
He reaches for it.
Grounds it to second.
Massey over to Bobby for one.
A quick throw to first.
He got him.
A 4-6-3 double play.
Bobby knew he had to throw his best fastball right there
to get Ohtani.
And how about that?
The Royals turn two for the second time tonight.
Keep the Angels off the board.
For Shohei Ohtani on the hill here tonight.
It's another piece of brilliance.
The 3-2.
That's a good pitch.
Got him.
That is another strikeout.
And that is four in a row.
Seen him use the curveball.
Pretty lethal.
The 2-2.
Wow.
Another one.
Another strikeout for Ohtani.
Double digits.
That's ten.
And that's five in a row.
And that's that curveball again.
This is not even really in the zone at all.
For Shohei, that is his 18th career game with ten-plus strikeouts.
And the 3-2.
Wow.
He strikes out six in a row.
Seven scoreless.
Eleven strikeouts.
What a performance from Shohei Ohtani.
Brett Phillips is now the pinch runner for Luis Ranjifo.
And it's going to bring up Zach Neto.
On the ground to the Royals shortstop.
And he gets it over to Massey for the force at second base.
So Garrett works around the two singles.
So Carlos Estevez is the new angel pitcher.
Kyle Isbell will be the batter.
And Estevez comes in.
Ninth game.
No wins.
One loss.
Two saves.
Chopper to the second basement.
Drury gets in.
And Isbell is thrown out.
Well, Chopper, Carlos, some spin on that.
Lobs it across.
Two down.
Next delivery.
A swing and a miss.
Another strikeout against a Royals batter.
That's the 12th strikeout recorded tonight by angels pitching.
And the last 13 Kansas City batters have been retired in a row.
That will be a one-out walk.
Ohtani will step up.
Trying to put some add-on runs on the board.
And he drives a base hit to center field.
How about it?
He pitches seven scoreless innings with 11 strikeouts.
Comes up in the eighth inning and just rips a first pitch rocket to center.
Here's Anthony Rendon.
Two on, one out.
Does he swing off a 3-0?
I don't think so.
Does he get a chance to?
Ball four.
On four straight pitches out of the zone.
Loads the bases for Hunter Renfroe.
Leads the team at RBI.
Curveball.
Got him swinging.
Man, that's a tough one.
That's 12 and 6.
Perfectly located there.
Now it's up to Brandon Drury to get the job done.
And a curveball got him looking.
So, Stamont gets two strikeouts.
It's also spicy time.
If there was a question on who perhaps would be the Angels' closer,
well, it's been answered by Jose Quijada.
That snaps in a string of 14 Royals retired in a row in this ballgame.
One out away.
Vinny Pasquitino representing the tying run at the plate.
Runner goes.
The one, two.
He got him.
Strikeouts against Kansas City.
Angels win it two to nothing.
