Now I have already passed to the north area of these islets, which is where, as I told you yesterday,
is the more globalized commercial area, where there are more typical shops, but still,
it also has a lot of charm, it also has some places that are more exclusive, well, more unique,
more original in the area, and it also has some points of interest that are worth visiting.
So let's go there, the truth is that the city can be visited very well on foot,
that is, from end to end, you still have an hour, but between you stop in different places and such,
the truth is that it is super comfortable and super easy to walk.
What I have not seen here, they usually have their own chains, for example,
I have not seen any Starbucks in the whole city, but what there is, is that around the corners,
there was a coffee shop called Espresso House, it seems to be the same, that is, it is a very, very similar style,
so it seems that they have the monopoly of the local chains, it is like in the hamburgers,
I imagine that there will be Burger King, McDonald's and such, but the most prevalent is Max,
which is a Danish chain, if I'm not mistaken, and in the end it comes to be all the same,
for example, the Espresso House that I tell you about does not stop stealing, just like at Starbucks,
it is 5 euros the coffee, here it is even more expensive than in other places.
I am now in T-Centralen, which is where the bus that brought me from the airport left me yesterday,
that is, it is the shopping center of the city, and I mean, little by little I am getting there,
because yesterday I arrived by bus, then I took the subway, so I really didn't get much of where I was,
but hey, I'm already getting better.
Here behind me, for example, you see that there is Atlen City, which is like the English court here.
At the end of the whole shopping street, where the main road is, you will find this square,
which is in front of this blue building, which is very characteristic,
because of the intense blue it has, and it is the concert hall,
and in this building is where the Nobel Prizes are distributed annually.
And in the square, as you can see, there is also a market, today is Sunday,
so it is wider, apart from the typical flower market that is out there,
there is the typical second-hand market, which is also very good,
so I'm going to take a walk around here to see how it is.
These second-hand markets are very popular here in Stockholm, but in general in Sweden,
and not only the markets, but also second-hand stores in general of clothing, especially.
And this, more than something anecdotal, or something that is the typical Sunday market,
it is more a cultural issue, which even has a term that covers the whole concept
of what this type of Swedish culture is, which I will now explain to you.
It is very good, if you go up about 15-20 minutes to the north of where the concert hall is,
where the market is, there are quite large parks, like this one, which is like a kind of mountain.
It is not as beastly as the park we were in Oslo, but hey, it's cool to have this
in such urban areas, to have these small remnants of a green area, and on top of that,
with height, to do small excursions here, even to have a picnic when it is good,
it is not that it will be more in summer, but it is very cool.
There are children's parks for children, it is very prepared.
The truth is that I am really liking Stockholm.
I would say that it is one of the cities that I like the most of the Nordic countries.
I would put them above Oslo, Helsinki, for example.
Surely, if we compare it with Copenhagen, Copenhagen for me would be a step above,
and if we also include Iceland, I think Reykjavik would be one of the last of the Nordics,
in terms of what it can offer you.
Just after this little park, which I already have here, I am leaving my back here,
I highly recommend that you come to the National Public Library, which is behind here,
because it is impressive.
The entrance is totally free, everyone can enter without any problem.
In fact, it is too free, because there, if you want to be studying and concentrated,
it is quite complicated with the people who come in to take pictures and such,
and that is not a problem if you go with peace of mind,
but there are a lot of people who start shouting, but it is beautiful inside.
I mean, it is incredible, all the image, all the architecture,
which is what I am showing you throughout the city.
It is amazing, it is one of the most beautiful libraries I have ever seen.
There they will be with the library of Buenos Aires,
and the library of Oslo was also beautiful.
Well, the concept that I was telling you about before,
which quite includes what is the Swedish culture,
is what is known as the GOM.
The GOM is a concept, it is a word that does not really have a literal translation,
but it comes to encompass the adjectives of moderate, adequate and fair.
This concept is related to what I have already told you before,
that the Swedes value above all the quality of life more than the level of life.
The Swedes do not like to look like,
so that is why what I was telling you about the second-hand market,
here they dress a lot with second-hand clothes,
so that is why there are a lot of markets and shops,
because people just want to wear functional clothes,
that cover and such, but not showing brands.
Here you see very few luxury stores compared to other European cities,
and that is why, it is because the Swedes do not like to look like,
they do not like, you are not going to see cars,
most people drive very normal cars, very austere,
they drive a lot, for example, the Volvo,
every time the Tesla is seen more,
but that is also because they have a very environmental vision,
the Swedes love to be in nature, doing sports and such,
and they are very related to the care of the environment,
so that is why every time electric cars are also seen,
more for the environmental impact than to show a class.
It is a way of seeing life,
that is based more simply on being happy,
that there are no inequalities between people,
and what I was telling you that also gives a lot of importance to the environment,
is also related to the issue of recycling,
for example, now I am here in front of a supermarket,
look at the amount of containers there are to recycle,
here you have all kinds,
from paper, bricks, containers, glass and such,
there are a lot of containers to recycle,
and apart from that, I entered that supermarket,
which is one of the best known chains here in Sweden,
and I bought a bottle of water,
which cost me 11.95 in Swedish crowns,
which will come to be around 1 euro more or less,
but it has the option that when you finish,
that is, when the bottle goes, instead of throwing it in the normal garbage,
if you recycle it, inside what is the establishment,
they give you money back, so let's try,
I'm going to drink the water and I'll show you.
Okay, I've finished the bottle,
and now there is this little machine here,
which tells you here to recycle and such,
you have to put the bottle in,
we put it in,
you take it,
it gives you back the ticket of a crown,
which comes to be around 10 cents,
so it is 10 cents that you can reuse in the next purchase.
And now a little freaky point,
but hey, I wanted to visit,
and it is that this building that I have here behind,
which today is a clothing store,
before it was a bank,
in fact it had a sign up here that said Credit Banken,
maybe with that it sounds a little more,
and it is that this is where it was born,
or where they named Stockholm syndrome,
and everything happened in this building,
in what was before this bank,
basically there was a robber who entered this bank,
and kidnapped the clients who were inside,
and asked the police,
that as one of the conditions, apart from weapons and such,
was to bring a person who was in jail,
whose name was Clark Colossum,
and they had the hostages locked up for six days,
and then everything ended up in nothing,
they were able to release them,
but what is already known happened,
that the hostages defended the kidnappers,
after having been with them for this time,
they came to empathize with what they were looking for,
and they said that they had not mistreated them,
much less, but that they had treated them very well,
and even they missed them later,
then what is known today as the Stockholm syndrome was born,
and everything happened here.
You have, well, its history,
this happened in the 70s,
Well, as I had not eaten all day,
since yesterday I went to eat the hamburger,
towards six in the afternoon,
I have not eaten anything again until now,
so I was already quite hungry,
I wanted to hold on a little longer,
to take advantage of the hours of light,
but I was already quite tired,
I needed to rest a little,
I found an Italian, who looked very good,
he had good grades,
and he was in the middle,
he had quite a few free tables,
so I said, come on, go ahead,
and nothing, he is an Italian,
his name is Paganini,
and the truth is that he is very good,
despite being in a tourist area,
he is very rich,
I liked everything a lot,
but come on, luckily I have gone to this one,
and I have not gone to one of the expensive ones,
because if you go to a place like this,
with four symbols of the dollar,
I could not imagine how much it costs you,
I want to ask you a question,
before telling you,
how much do you think the food has cost me?
I tell you,
I have eaten,
and for you to see that I have eaten very well,
I have eaten a garlic bread,
to spread with a little,
a sauce made with olives,
after the main dish,
a pasta,
which was incredible,
it was like with truffle sauce,
with asparagus,
and with pieces of veal,
for dessert,
I have taken a lemon cake,
so small,
but it was very good,
it was already full,
but I wanted to try this cake,
and a coffee with milk,
and to drink,
a Coca-Cola,
so that was the menu,
everything very good,
I recommend it,
but how much do you think it has cost?
Everything, without tip.
If you come in the Christmas season,
here next to the Gamla Stan station,
in the area of El Cascontiguo,
there is a little market,
where you can also buy Christmas trees,
which look like natural trees,
not artificial,
so I imagine that here,
as there is so much nature,
and there are so many trees in the country,
it will be better to have natural trees,
than plastic ones.
The complete menu,
the starter, the main dish,
the dessert, the drink, the coffee,
have been 530 crowns,
536 crowns,
which will be
around 50 euros,
not bad,
to maintain the local level,
I have left a tip of about 7 euros,
to round it up to 600 crowns,
it will be around 56, 57 euros,
not bad at all,
now I have gone down a little
to the island of Sodermalm,
which is south of Gamla Stan,
and it is the island where my hotel is,
the boat,
it is an area that today is quite popular,
before this island, this part of the city,
was like the most humble,
or the one with less resources,
but it has been reconverted in recent years,
and today it is known as the Bohemian neighborhood,
or more modern,
so there are also many establishments,
there are some churches,
and there is also a lot of environment,
restaurants, shops and such,
so if you have time,
it's cool to give it a go,
it's getting dark,
but I hope it is all lit up,
and I can enjoy it for a while,
the first thing you will notice,
as you go down from Gamla Stan,
once you cross the bridge,
is that practically all this part of the city
is on a slope,
it starts from the sea area,
and goes up in all directions,
there are a lot of slopes.
Something I like about restaurants,
or places where you can have a drink,
is that on the outside,
where they have terraces,
or chairs where you can have a drink,
because of the cold and such,
they always leave you some blankets,
in the chairs,
so you can cover yourself,
it's quite good,
because this is done in Spain,
and the blanket doesn't last more than 5 minutes.
Gamla Stan
If you go to the east of this area,
in about 5 or 10 minutes,
you will arrive at a viewpoint,
in an area that is quite cool,
although now it is quite empty,
but it has very good views of the bay,
of the old town,
you can even see a small amusement park,
on the other side,
so it's very cool,
along the way there are some interesting spots,
such as the Church of Santa Catalina,
which has very bright colors,
and now at night it is very beautiful,
and apart from that,
there are a lot of museums,
for example down here is the photography museum,
you have a lot of museum options,
because it is a country that has,
for most of the year,
this climate, so dark, so cold,
well, there are a lot of options,
also to do indoors.
And after taking a walk,
in this southern part of the city,
I'm going to say goodbye to Stockholm,
I'm going now to the airport,
I'm not saying goodbye to Sweden yet,
I told you that I was not going to the north,
to see part of nature,
but I want to visit another city here,
to the south, I'm going to Malmö,
so I'm going to the airport,
I'm going to the boat to pick up the suitcase,
I'm going to the airport,
so it's pretty boring what's left,
I really liked Stockholm,
the truth is that I was surprised by the city,
I thought it would have less to offer,
I hope you liked it too,
if you have seen the videos,
see you in the next chapter,
which will be going to Malmö.
