Kenta Maeda takes the ball for the Minnesota Twins today.
He relies so much on the split finger and the slider.
Here is the birthday boy, Aaron Judge, turning 31 today.
Homered on his birthday last season.
Those fans hoping he does again this season.
Judge rips that to left field, a base hit.
That one's going to go get down in the corner
and roll to the wall,
and Aaron Judge begins his birthday with a double.
And again, Vasquez asking for that pitch down.
You make a mistake like that to Aaron Judge,
and you only give up a double.
You should feel lucky.
Swung on and lined to right field,
but right at Kepler, who fires back in,
Judge goes to third.
So there are two away.
Stretch and the pitch,
a swing and a fly ball right center,
drifting over Gordon on the track.
Jumps up and Nick will make the play,
tumbling down to the ground.
From the sunshine to the shade,
to the right of dead center,
Gordon left his feet, caught it,
came down to the ground, right at the base of the wall.
Yeah, Domingo-Hammond moving around.
That's the fastball, located a little bit,
moving around, a lot of comfortable at-bats
by the twins these first two games.
Just continue and improve, go deep in the game,
have confidence in yourself.
One-two is cut on him.
This struck him out, swinging, breaking ball, one away.
Now here comes the 0-2.
Swung on and missed, he struck him out.
Well, what an inning for Hammond, he looked terrific.
One-two-three go the twins, end of one, no score.
And Gleyber Torres will lead off.
Torres hits it hard and through into right centerfield,
a base hit for Gleyber Torres.
Torres is going to go for two, and he's going to make it.
Aggressive decision from Gleyber,
who's now going to head for third,
and he will be there safely.
Gleyber Torres making it happen with the bat,
and then his legs, aggressive on this early start,
and he's at third with nobody out.
So Torres was thinking two, he was hustling.
A low throw, Correa could not make the catch,
nor the tag, and then the ball just kept on rolling.
Torres at third with nobody out, Willy Calhoun up.
On the backhand, Gallo couldn't handle it,
and everybody's safe.
Torres scores, and the Yankees take a 1-0 lead.
Gallo then just flipped it up in the air,
hoping it was going to be caught by somebody near first base.
It was Solano, but he was a few feet shy of the bag.
Now a little bunt from IKF,
and that is a beauty and a base hit.
Small ball, base running, astute plays all around,
and the Yankees have to like
what they have cooking here in the second.
And Maeda, a little slow in getting up.
Hope he's all right, and he says he's fine.
It's ball four, and the Yankees have the bases loaded,
and Anthony Volpe coming up.
Volpe drives that to right field, a base hit.
Calhoun will score.
Stopping at third is Keiner Falefa.
Hits an RBI single from the rookie, Anthony Volpe,
and the Yankees lead it 2-0.
There's a little slider on the outside part of the play.
Great job of staying with it
and hitting right field for RBI base hit.
Judge smoked a double his first time up,
celebrating his 31st birthday.
Bases loaded, one out.
Judge smokes that to left field.
That's a base hit. It'll get down into the corner.
Two runs will score easily.
Volpe is motoring home as well.
That's a bases clearing.
Three-run double for the birthday boy.
And the Yankees are hitting today.
They take a 5-0 lead.
Judge has taken off for third, and he is going to be out.
And is he okay?
Kind of grabbing at that right arm a little bit,
and that is the last thing you want to see
if you're the Yankees as Judge goes down into the tunnel.
You see that slide. Both arms went back.
You just hope that he's okay.
So Judge DH-ing today, so that won't impact
in terms of when the Yankees come out
defensively next half inning.
The Yankees put up a five spot in the second.
A deep drive to left,
and Miranda answers for the Twins.
After a long inning,
sometimes that first batter may take,
but Miranda snaps an 0 for 7, and the Twins answer back
and now trail 5-1.
Aaron Judge remaining in the dugout, batting gloves on,
so you would think he is okay
after taking that awkward head-first slide into third.
Judge flexing that right hand a little bit.
You're right, Jeff.
There's still going to be some level of curiosity
if there's any effect on Judge.
So Higgy is on with a clean single to left.
Cabrera shows, but lays down a beauty.
Maeda can't make the play.
Throw scoots by. Both runners will advance,
and the Yankees doing it with a little small ball
this afternoon as well.
As Cabrera makes something happen,
it's second and third, nobody out,
and here's Volpe, who drove in a run
with a single his last time up.
Volpe drives that in the air to left center field.
Larnik on the move, can't get there.
It's in the gap and up against the wall.
It's a two-run double for Anthony Volpe,
and the Yankees' offense finally breaking out.
It's a 7-1 game.
We'll keep an eye on Judge, how the swing looks.
He has two doubles today on his 31st birthday.
And the pitch is outside.
Judge walks, so the Yankees have first and second
and no one out.
Rizzo gets into that one,
rifled into the right center field gap.
Volpe will score easily.
Judge rounding third.
He's heading home.
Here's the throw. It's offline.
A two-run double for Anthony Rizzo joining the party,
and it is a 9-1 Yankees lead.
One out here is Glaber Torres, to bet.
Swung on and drilled to deep left.
That ball is high. It is far. It is gone.
It's Glaber Day.
The Yankees mashing this afternoon in Minneapolis.
It's an 11-1 Bombers' lead on Torres' third of the season.
There's a walk to start the fourth inning.
And that will get Miranda,
who homered his first homer of the year.
Ball's crushed into left center field.
Might have a chance. Long run is the left fielder,
and that ball is gone.
Two-run homer. Here come the twins.
Down 11-3.
Miranda at first. Gallo, the hitter.
A high fly to deep right field.
A two-run home run for Gallo, his seventh of the year.
Two-run shot, and it's 11-5 Yankees.
Twins would like to get a couple more here in the seventh.
Now the 2-1 pitch, a line drive right center field,
deep in the gap. That won't be caught.
That's down, and that's a base hit off the base of the wall.
Gordon has two. He is thinking three,
and he is going to make this easily a standing triple
for Nick Gordon on a swing he needed.
Now one-out Walt Castro, top of the lineup.
As he lines one on the ground.
Sliding stop made by Torres.
Second one, the return throw is not in time as the run scores,
and it's 11-6, two down.
And there are two on, one out.
LeMahieu drives that in the air, deep to left field.
Larnik back, leaping, makes the catch.
Volpe will tag as the Yankees take a 12-6 lead
on a long, loud LeMahieu sack fly.
And there are two away.
Vasquez punches it to right, and that will do it.
The Yankee bats finally explode.
A 12-6 final in this series finale
to avoid the sweep at the hands of the Twins.
