In this video, I go mousing, which is a form of nighttime fly fishing for brown trout on a tiny creek during the opening day of trout season here in Michigan with my good buddy Bill. Fishing for trout at night can be a huge hit or miss, but luckily for us, we hit the nail right on the head just before a major storm front and scored some quality fish. Hope you enjoy my first TROUT FISHING video of the year!!

That's a nice one. I got big brown dude.
Redemption! This is a nice fish Bill. Get ready to look at this fish.
The man, the chief. Oh hey, what's up buddy? You're too good to me man. I come over here,
I've been, I've stayed at this man's house three times and he's made me steak every single time.
18 pound. That's all I use. That's what I use for streamer, that's what I use for mouse.
Cut the 18 pound off, we go down to 30 and 40 pounds.
Mouse rod. I will use that. Mouse rod. Cool, we're good. Guys, this might be a little premature.
I don't know how the lighting is right now, but I'm here today. Good buddy Wild Bill. We're gonna
be going out mousing. Tomorrow's trout opener. We got a really warm night. This is, I mean,
unseasonably warm almost. We're on the early end of things, but very possible that we have some
active fish out there right now. Hopefully we can stick a couple on the mouse. Launching the
boat right now. We're gonna see what we can do. How long is our leader then? Like four foot,
three foot? Arm's length, like this. So five, six. Just trying to stretch it out, loop to loop.
There it is. Nice. So Bill, it seems like people liked our last video. Your little explanation
here of what exactly is going on. Why are these fish feeding on a mouse pattern? What's having
these fish target mice right now? Well, we're at the beginning stages of breeding season.
So the buck mouse jumps in the water, swims across to breed with the doe on the other side of the
river. The fish start to realize that, hey, this is a viable food source. So you got a nice half
inch loop right there for that mouse to. Yep. Swings around, moves around. That's the logic
behind it. What's the goal for tonight? For you, what, what, what is the success for you tonight,
Bill? 30 inches. That's a high goal right now. 29, but 30 inches. Dang. That's well beyond my
personal best, but hey, if you guys want to get put on a mousing trip, Wild Bill is your guy.
I'll have all his contact information below and I'm about to show you what it's all about. So
without further ado. All right, let's do it. What was that? Was that your owl?
Is that him? I don't know. I didn't see it. It was big. He wants to eat your fly.
He can't resist it. That's holy.
Got him, got him, got him, got him, got him, got him.
Oh yeah. He's in. Oh no, I lost him. The rod stays out here. Chief, look at me.
Every fisherman and their mother knows that you don't fight a fish with your rod and your fly
that close and your tip pointed down. Never. Well, I was coming into the bank, dude.
Oh, that looks all good in there.
This looks really good. There he is, there he is.
Yes, Bill.
Redemption. This is a nice fish, Bill. Get ready to look at this fish. Oh my God,
dude. That's way bigger than anything I touched with you last year. Are you kidding me?
This is a dog, Bill. Oh my gosh. This is a big fish, dude. You don't have to tell me. I know my
fish. I don't have to hold buttons, right? Nope. Guys, redemption fish right here.
And I definitely think it's a little bigger than the one that I lost out on earlier.
Absolute brute. I think this is bigger than the one I lost. Bill got better luck on that last fish,
but look at these spots. I'm going to let this thing go. Definitely the biggest fish that you
and I have hooked together. Look at that fish, man. There you go. Send. Breathe for a sec. Hold
up. There you go. Big Lebowski. I just find this crazy, guys. Before we even fished this spot,
he said Big Lebowski lives here. And when I hooked that fish, you can hear in the GoPro footage,
he said. There he is, there he is. Big Lebowski. I'm going to show you guys here through a fish
that he caught all the way back in August 2nd of 2022. And you can tell it is indeed Big Lebowski.
And what really gives it away is this cluster of four dots near its eye right here. I just find
that absolutely insane. And it just goes to show that proper handling and catch and release does go
a very long way when it comes to these fish. I'd like to see a couple of 23s for the boat.
Couple of 23s? Anything over that, it's cream. All right. Oh, we got it. Oh, dude, that was a
nice one. He missed it. I gave it to him and everything. Hold up. He might, he still might
commit to this. He missed it and then came up and missed it again. Is that the head of the deer
swinging? Yeah. Ribcage, front shoulder, head. Hopefully it didn't die in the river. I'm still
shaking a little bit after that fish. Adrenaline. You go all day without, you know, oh, oh, oh,
big dog. Bill, that was it. There's one. That's a nice one. I got a big round.
There's a big round though.
Bring him right up. Bring him up now. Now, now, now. There you go.
It's flowing right now. Sorry. I'm a little choppy in my speech right here. We've been
getting kind of pressed by another boat behind us. No, no big deal. I mean, it's, it is what it
is, but you know, it, we were kind of scurrying around. I didn't want to bust the camera out. You
know, it just didn't feel right in the moment, but it ended up being a pretty, pretty solid fish.
I knew the second I hooked that thing, I was, I was just tangled into something nice, but we got
some good pictures on Bill's phone. So you guys can see right here. I wish I could have freaking
held it up on this camera, but I mean, you can tell that's, that's very quality brown for sure.
