Tottenham need to pick up points if they're to claim a European place for next season at the
Ryan Mason. Fraser Forster is set to continue in goal for the rest of this season with Ugo Lloris
out with a hip injury. The return of Emerson Royal after knee surgery along with Cameron Longley might
help Spurs to tighten up a defence which conceded three goals in the opening 15 minutes in the
fourth three defeats at Liverpool. Oliver Skipp is not the worst for his head injury at Anfield.
There's a different emphasis in forward areas, the inclusion of Richarlison
ahead of Ivan Perisic means more support for Harry Kane who's now tied on 208 Premier League goals,
second in the all-time list alongside Wayne Rooney. Yves Massouma back on the bench for this one.
Crystal Palace have excelled since reappointing Roy Hodgson.
They're unchanged from the fourth three win over West Ham United.
Sam Johnson has taken over from authentic Guaita since Hodgson's first game in charge.
The back four has been the one constant of Palace's season for Hodgson or his predecessor
Patrick Vieira. Benezes scored four goals since Hodgson's appointment and Palace are playing with
plenty of freedom, boosted last week by the return from a groin injury of Wilfrid Zaha
who also played his first goal since scoring against West Ham back in November.
Crystal Palace set to get us underway at the Tottenham Stadium, given the way Tottenham's
season has shaped up anything possible in North London. This is a Tottenham team who let in three
goals in 15 minutes at Liverpool, they fought back to 3-3 in stoppage time and still lost
having trailed Manchester United 2-0 here before drawing 2-2.
And then consider how they let in five goals in little more than 20 minutes at Newcastle
and we've been here 3-2 by Bournemouth again, scoring late on to make it 2-2,
quite a conundrum isn't it? Yes just not sure exactly what you're going to get with Tottenham
do you, whether it's going to be a dominant performance in periods of game, they've found
it hard to maintain that for the level of play that they have, that's really unacceptable to
be honest. Livery was flat and Johnston was beaten, Romero in there for Tottenham.
There's a set piece again, Romero gone on to the end of it, actually it might have been Ben
Davies, I mean it's, oh no it's Romero yeah just over the Welshman, good header, just wasn't able
to get high enough to send that one downwards preferably, I mean anything that bounces into
ground from that distance can be hard for any goalkeeper to stop. Neatly taken by Ayo, he's
dispossessed and Tottenham have a chance to counter, Hojbjerg, Kane, Hojbjerg, he's running
out of ideas, well options I should say, the midfielder might say well okay there's a hole
there, he just barges his way through it, that's a reverse pass from Harry Kane, he's not able to
wrap his foot around it, the Dane should be going for goal, it's Ezra and the wall has done its job,
helped on by Ward, Anderson, Ayo, Alise, forced Foster into action, there's a clean connection
from Michael Alise, just not enough power behind it and more importantly lacking in direction,
not easy of course on the half volley like that, yeah it's actually a pretty good technique,
very good to be honest, that's a sweet strike, forced a bit like that straight into his body,
Davis, had to go inside, you know already what Romero can do, flashing header which
came back off the Crystal Palace crossbar from a previous corner kick,
pulled a miscue by Ward as the ball was bouncing it around inside the Palace six-yard area,
Romero once again is the man on the board, he's getting over and above the core,
that was more of a wrestle, Harry Kane's the man you've got to watch out for as well,
that second ball drifts off to the far post and so often the guy who's world famous for scoring
goals he's left unmarked, Richarlison okay, back on his feet and back to help Tottenham defend this
Palace free kick, Anderson arriving late and he won the header, Anderson again has made his move
and yet again he's got there ahead of Richarlison, turned on to the netting above Forster,
that's a lovely drill ball from Michael Alise, doesn't catch it on his head at all, almost
comes off his chest, maybe even arm, he's at full stretch, that's hard to control that one,
I mean the position was pretty good when he left the football club, said his last game was the one
against Harampton on the 18th of March, he left a few days later, so there's plenty to work with,
this time at the end of the first half helped on by Kane, Pedro Porro to set it up and put
Tottenham in front, it's another landmark goal for Harry Kane, second in the all-time list,
one more than Wayne Rooney and Alex Shearer still in his sights.
With prevention didn't they Tottenham and didn't they use it well, Pedro Porro's got acres of space,
I mean it's a delicious cross isn't it, there's Harry Kane completely unchallenged, it's a poor
defensive attempt actually from Joe Ward, I mean Kane has got a yard of sun, he's got to be feeling
for where the England captain is, sorry the England captain and Tottenham captain on the
day of course, in the end that's a routine header for someone as accomplished as him,
terrific end to the half, maybe not quite so fiery at a half time required from Ryan Mason.
Alisa, neatly taken by Zaha, knew exactly what he wanted to do then and forced to his scrambling
back to try and deal with the shot, that's a tough one isn't it for Zaha, just tried to scoop it in
the end, he didn't shift it just that little half a yard or so, he usually does, he was under pressure
facing up two players, Porro came over to support Emerson, lovely touch to set himself,
yeah neither of them do it as well as Arju, no, here's Zaha, Palace looking to spring
forward quickly, Zaha trying to get away from Skip, what a chance, don't think that ball was
actually meant for him, it's for Michael, for Alisa really, Zaha does superbly well doesn't he, I mean
fends off three Tottenham players in the end, great balance and awareness what's around him,
you know that ball is not meant for Eddie, takes it on the back of his right on his heel actually and
it's a comfortable afternoon defensively for his Tottenham back line,
so far and I say so far with minutes 75, it's one of those days where the whole back line,
the front line has been below, his son, through on goal, magnificent save by Sam Johnson then,
Palace had switched off defensively, the through ball caught them out and Son thought that he had
claimed Spurs's second goal, it's a great pass from Romero isn't it, I mean he was the provider
for Son's goal at Anfield last weekend, just stayed long enough didn't he, Sam Johnson then
went to ground at the right time, yeah a couple of nice touches, doesn't quite get around the
Palace keeper does he, yeah still within that, Alisa needed to dig out across, he needed to
It's the first win in five games for Tottenham Hotspur
and it's Harry Kane who's lifted the gloom around the Tottenham stadium, his 209th goal
in the Premier League, his 10th heady goal this season, the most productive season ever
in the Premier League with a headed goal going in front of Duncan Ferguson's record
from 1998, one goal enough for Spurs against the Palace team who never really got going
at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium, it's finished Tottenham Hotspur 1 Bristol Palace 0.
We will see you over there.
