Is Neymar the right signing for Newcastle?

They've been linked with a move for Neymar. Eddie Howe says it's kind of too big a move
too soon almost, but maybe something in the future, who knows. Do you see them going big
in the summer in terms of transfers? I'm sure they'll spend right up to the maximum of what
they're permitted under the regulations. As for Neymar, it's an interesting one because
clearly he's the sort of trophy signing that if you are a billionaire owner of a club and
are looking for the profile, then he's a natural. But he totally doesn't fit with what Newcastle
have done so far under Howe and under Dan Ashworth. The technical director, they've
really recruited brilliantly. It would upset the apple cart almost, wouldn't it? Well, it would.
He's a fabulous player. He's great to watch. For all the histrionics, he's great entertainment
and that is part of what football is about. But when you look at their recruitment,
it's been really quite crafted. They've taken players from rival teams like Dan
Byrne, they've improved them incrementally, they've had experience with Trippier and I think Isaac is
a fabulous player. He's clearly had his problems with injuries, but he's a player for the next
10 years. He's going to be a really big talent in Europe. What you're looking at with Neymar
is a bit of a heritage piece. Again, great player, had a great career, but he comes with all the
entourage, with all that comes with being one of the most famous people in the world, never mind
being one of the most famous footballers. I just wonder what they've managed to do, which big
spending Newcastle teams of the past haven't, is get away from this notion of, oh, you've got to
persuade a player to come up to Newcastle, a famous name, because it's going to be freezing
cold and it's 300 miles from London. There's not been any of that sort of discussion. It's been
hungry players who've really wanted to come and improve and play for a team that's going to get
in the Champions League. So if you bring Neymar in, there's all those old jokes resurfaced that
you had around sort of Aspire and that great sort of 90s side. So I think it's a big decision,
but then owners are owners. They're unpredictable, even with everything we know about what's
happened in football, and they may just fancy it. Yeah, it'd be interesting, wouldn't it?
