Blue Jays vs. Pirates Game Highlights (5/7/23) | MLB Highlights

So the rains have passed it looks like we're clear the rest of the way pirates and Blue Jays and we're going to have some baseball after short delay here and try to start number seven Springer hit a homerun on Friday night when one for three with a couple of walks last night in the Blue Jays victory address ready and the 0 1 pitch hit in the air out to right field underneath it Miguel Andujar makes the play and there's one down so that'll bring up the designated hitter today for the first time Bo Bichette as there's a liner in the right for a base hit and do our bubbles it but recovers here's Dalton Varsha with no Guerrero Varsha is up in the three spot again and he hits the ball hard into right field and Newhart's got to go get it near the corner Bichette around a third and Varsha in the second with a double so an early opportunity for the Blue Jays Matt Chapman is the batter swinging a miss and a curveball up in the zone two down the batter is Brandon Bell coming off a very good game last night got a slider down and in and we draw the walk to load him up. So here's Merrifield coming off the big game Friday night two hits three steals he reaches for it pokes it up the middle and a wide throw and he's safe the throw from Mark Mathias pulls Carlos Santana off the bag Merrifield is safe and the Blue Jays have a run Blue Jays have the lefty Yusei Kikuchi on the mound Kikuchi making his seventh start of the season or know that he already just over four Brian Hayes back at the top of the order and that's a good start leadoff walk to Hayes. So here's Reynolds with the leadoff man aboard in the air to center sending Kiermaier back to the wall and he makes the catch one long out Hayes takes off he's going to steal that easily fourth steal for Hayes and he's in there at second with one strike on Carlos Santana next pitch is swung on popped up back a first into shallow right and it'll be the second baseman Merrifield to snow cone it but he makes the catch to end the inning. Pirate strand a man so two down and back to the top of the order for George Springer hit a fly ball to right his first time up. Now he's got a base hit through the right side. So he's at first with two down and here's Bichette who had a base hit and scored back in the first and this one a well hit ball left center field but it is hanging up long enough for Jack Suwinski to get there and make the catch and retire the side here at the top of the second now Matt Chapman who struck out his first time up Trez deals again curve ball bounce through the left side a base hit Kevin was all over that he was up there hunting for the breaking ball one out knock for Toronto here in the third inning Brandon Beltran batter Oh to fastball line up the middle base hit into the center Brandon Beltran board for the second time and the Blue Jays have two on with one down here's Whit Merrifield one to breaking ball golfed up the left field line hit pretty well Joe back at the track look it up it's gone Whit Merrifield corks one up the line and left a three run home run for Whit Merrifield out front but all over this pitch so he's driven in all four runs here in this game today here my grounded out he struck out his first time up and a hard hit ball fair down the right field line here Meyer on his way to second care Meyer on his way to third John Schneider's got his hand extended and we will see if the Blue Jays challenge the play they will not the out call will stand it'll be a double and out trying to stretch it into a triple Jays have a four nothing lead a Whit Merrifield three run homer one out Jason DeLay he just keeps on hitting that'll up the average came in batting a stout three seventy two Hayes drew a walk and stole the base back in the first it's now for nothing Toronto to right field back into his right Springer makes the catch out number two and now Brian Reynolds trying to bring in a run here delay will run on three to a swing and a high fly ball right field Springer a couple of steps to his right and has it for the final out pirates get a hit and leave a man were through three innings it's for nothing Toronto Blue Jays leading for nothing in Pittsburgh this afternoon as Matt Chapman leads it off and he'll take a walk I'll bring up Brandon Belt Chapman running again and belt with a drive to deep center so Winston didn't get a good job it's off the base of the fence Chapman will be held at third Brandon Belt on base again a double for him his third double in the last two games and here's Merrifield who has already driven in four runs in this game 0 2 again and not this time he got him to chase one down and away Merrifield retired for the first time today Danny Jansen runners on its second and third Blue Jays with a four nothing lead here in the fifth little dribbler here comes Chapman Jansen is retired but the run will score to give Jansen an RBI Chapman scores and it's five to nothing and it's Hayes at the plate he's walked and flied out one of just three base runners against this lefty starter groundball right side and through so a man on for Reynolds here's the 1 0 Reynolds pops it foul territory first base way belt near the coach's box has it and Reynolds fouls out to first Hayes Reynolds still at first for Carlos Santana here it is and ball for Santana takes a walk so now for the first time today the Pirates have two on first and second with two outs for Rodolfo Castro both runners go and the pitch is swung on and missed one ball one strike so the Pirates executing a double steal and now a hit and score a pair ground ball left side and Chapman gathers it in throws out Castro and that ends the frame still five nothing Toronto and do hard has flied out and bounced out there's a hit for him do hard snaps his hit list straight he had been 0 for 17 before the one out double here comes John Schneider the Blue Jays manager I'll do it he'll have to lift his lefty go for Jimmy Garcia delay is 5 4 13 with runners in scoring position pirates need to get a few more on delay take strike three on a slider and that ends the inning Connor Joe for three Joey with a good eye and the pitch swing and a fly ball right center field that's going to split the gap and it's going to be cut off by Kiermaier just shy of the warning track Joe into second base and he's got a double Hayes up at third and the Pirates with two on and one out and Carlos Santana is coming up and a little base hit to left left pirates are on the board it's 5 1 107 minutes watching it rain today Ronald trying to make the wait worthwhile and the one to hit hard to right field and Dalton Varsho just hit it out of the ballpark and I believe into the Allegheny yes he did Dalton Varsho hits one into the Allegheny River a long to run homer what a blast by Varsho to extend the lead belt who's had another good day two for three with a walk and he hits one well to right field and it is in play high off the wall and back in play a long single for Belt any chance of the batter goes the runner and this one is hit in the air to right center field a long run for Andrew Hart he's got to play it off the base of the wall and with Belt running he will come in to score on the double by Jansen to make it eight to one so now Kevin Kiermaier up again and he hits the ball to deep right it is gone second on the season for Kiermaier and the Blue Jays have officially blown it open here in the night Blue Jays with a 10 1 lead and there are two away in the ninth I'll bring up Brian Reynolds who does get one more shot to extend his history popped him up Chapman and the ball drifting back is there and that is a three game sweep here in Pittsburgh is the Blue Jays win the finale by a score of 10 to 1.
