Standing at 7 foot 1 and weighing over 300 pounds,
Shaq definitely commands attention wherever he goes with his imposing presence alone.
Now, while that seems pretty obvious, here's one story that will take things to a whole new crazy
level. Did you know that whenever Shaq goes to a zoo, the gorillas would go nuts every time they
see him and, uh, they were giving him that kind of look as if he's the new kid on the block trying
I mean, from Shaq's mouth himself, here's what he said about that.
Now, according to the director of a Miami zoo,
here's the exact reason why the apes were acting like that whenever Shaq was around.
Man, what a wild story. I'm pretty sure gorillas don't think that way with normal humans.
Anyway guys, off to our next story now.
We all know that during his crime, Shaq was the ultimate bully who would punish anyone that stood
around the paint. But before getting into the NBA, did you know that Shaq used to bully the
bullies around the neighborhood or at a new school to send a stern message that he's not
that kid you want to be messing around with? I was bigger than everybody and kids used to
make fun of me, call me names like Shaquilla the gorilla. So I hit them because I didn't like it.
I went from being a bully to a medium level juvenile delinquent.
My dad and my uncle would be telling me you're going to get in trouble and go to jail.
While admitting to being a bully, Shaq said there was one time when his bullying went too far and
that incident actually made him decide to change course and leave his bad ways behind for good.
The moment that changed my life came when I was about 13 and this guy ratted me out for
throwing something at class. I caught up with him after school and beat him up.
When the kid went down, I kicked him. Then he started having an epileptic seizure.
A man ran out of his car and put something in the kid's mouth and got him to stop.
If that guy hadn't come, that kid might have passed away and I had been done,
done, done. I was a different person from that day on.
Anyway, here's another Shaq story that will absolutely blow your mind.
According to what I've researched, the average shoe size for NBA players is somewhere around
14-15. Now, this is where Shaq separates himself from the rest of the pack because
he used to wear 22 inch kicks back in his playing days.
I mean, to have an idea of just how humongous those shoes were, check this out.
Anyway guys, here's Shaq telling the reason why he wore such big shoes.
Now, from his insane shoe size, let's now move on to another story,
which many believe started right here.
You see, although they're friends now, Shaq and Charles Barkley have been going at it for
decades. I mean, what kind of human being fights another human for 20 plus years?
And even if they are retired now, the diesel never pulls the reins in,
throwing some jabs at his co-anchor in TNT like this.
While Shaq appears to be the bigger bully among the two,
Chuck said that he really tries to get under Shaq's skin sometimes because he just simply wants to.
Anyway, here's how Sports Illustrated's Howard Beck describes the funny chemistry between the
two. I always make the distinction that the difference between Charles and Shaq is that
Charles knows how to make fun of himself, and Shaq doesn't. Shaq isn't kidding when he's
They do admire each other and are friends, but you can tell that Shaq has to win,
and that's not the case for Charles. While it's true that Shaq is a big sore loser,
he said in an interview that their show would not become a hit without the presence of Chuck.
Charles is the catalyst for all we do. He's the big clown, and I'm the second clown.
I'm the comedy clown.
Though the interaction between him and Chuck is completely laughable,
there's nothing funny about what happened in the next story we got here.
On the night of April 23rd, 1993, Shaq was just a rookie playing for the Magic,
and they traveled to the Meadowlands Arena to battle the Nets in a regular season game.
Now, everything seemed to be running just fine throughout the course of the game,
until Shaq did something we've never seen before.
I mean, everyone was shocked when Shaq brought down the entire rim.
The arena crew actually had to come and fix it for about 20 minutes,
just so they could continue the game.
Now, that wasn't the first time that he caused chaos on the court,
because before the Shaq attack happened, he also did the same thing against Phoenix.
And, uh, it also happened during a shoot of Inside Stuff.
After the numerous Shaq attack incidents, the NBA decided that they'll be paying no
more for the destruction that Shaquille O'Neal causes.
And so, they decided to make their backboard Shaq-proof moving forward.
And, in addition, they now always have a backup hoop for every arena,
just in case something like this ever happens again.
According to the official statement released by the NBA at the time, they said,
We had a new thing this year with backboards both coming down and being broken.
We're going to make sure that all of the equipment is up to snuff.
Whether it was Shaquille O'Neal or someone else,
with the size of these guys, it was just a matter of time.
He just happened to be a little bigger and stronger than most.
As you can see, when Shaq is on the court, he's definitely not Mr. Nice Guy and wreaks havoc
everywhere. But when he's off the court, he's definitely something else, especially towards
the fans. You see, Shaq had an unforgettable encounter with a certain young fan back when
he was playing in Orlando, and, uh, as it would turn out, Shaq had little to no idea that that
particular kid would eventually become his future teammate someday.
Here's Shaq telling this crazy story in full detail.
Years later, as we all know, Kobe and Shaq played together for the Purple and Gold,
and it resulted in three consecutive championships from 2000 to 2002.
Now, before they even established their dynasty, however, Shaq was already dominating the
competition back in the 90s because he was just too big and powerful. In other words,
he was unstoppable. In fact, he was so unstoppable that the NBA actually had to
step in and change the rules on defense. You see, before Shaq came along, zone defenses were
illegal in the NBA, and everybody had to play one-on-one coverage. But because nobody stood
a chance against Shaq, the NBA was forced to step in, and as a result, they introduced zone defense
right before the start of the 2001-2002 season. This allowed other teams to have a fighting chance
when it comes to containing Shaq in the shaded area, because now they can double-team him.
The crazy thing about all this is, even after the NBA changed the rules to make it easier to
defend Shaq, the dude still went on and won a championship that year. Sheesh, talk about not
a human. Shaq's long-time coach Phil Jackson breaks down how he single-handedly forced a
Shaq had a dominance that changed the game. Shaq was the major component that allowed defenses to
change. Now, you can play a zone, you can play any defense you want. Before that, it was difficult to
defense against Shaq because you had to do it individually. You can come double-team,
but you had to double-team in a certain way, and Shaq was a great passer out of the post.
So he's the man that changed the game into what we have now in this era we have now,
which has really eliminated, I think, a lot of post play, which is okay. I mean,
you know, you should be able to play basketball however you want to play it,
but Shaq's dominance changed the game.
