You know one of the things that Steve Nash is one of the best guys he's always say
get a yard of separation between you and your main guy.
So you can do a couple things one of it could be you're here and let's say I'm
just running right here and I bump him right for a screen.
Now look at that I got a yard of separation. Another thing
I could just play one-on-one beforehand. I could be here
and do this and fake boom now oh got a yard.
See how easy that is? So you got to create a yard of separation. I want you
to do it again. So either a nudge before a play one-on-one
fake reject get a yard of separation so it's easy.
Good stop. Now you guys see he did a great that was a great secondary move
but it was still hard for you to get that advantage and you guys see if you
don't get that advantage your guards are sped up.
That's why I like this drill. Watch this. You're 100% live against me.
Okay don't take it easy because I'm demonstrating. You ready? Watch this.
Ready? Go here. I wasn't trying but I knew angles.
So watch this again. Here's a key on the ball screen.
Don't attack the hip. This is old school teaching.
Attack the inside hip. If I come right here and beat him here
now look at that. But if I go here any good defender if they can't wedge
through they're just going to trail and now they're going to get a low hand
and take away the roll and then on the second dribble they're
going to get a high hand to take away the skip.
Okay so again try that one more time. All I want you to do is focus on
try to beat him right here and if you can beat him right here
beat him. If you can't bump him and then come off he has to go over top the
screen. Watch the separation you create. See ya.
Look at that guys. That's basketball simplified right there.
That angle change has made everything. Now when you come off you're like this.
You're slow down. You're okay. I got a layup. I got a drop off. That's really
good basketball.
