For this tutorial you're going to need your selected yarn. This is Stylecraft Special DK
in Raspberry. You will need your corresponding crochet hook. I'm going to use a five millimeter
today. You will also need some scissors and a darning needle just to finish off your ends.
To begin with you want to make a slip knot. Now you could start with a magic circle if you wanted
to. I'm going to start with a chain instead and you're going to start by chaining four. One, two,
three and four and then insert your hook into the first chain to make a circle.
So when we're working we're actually going to be working into the very center of this circle
and we're going to be working around the actual chain itself to make a circle section.
So this is going to consist of treble crochet. This is a UK term so in the US this is known
as double crochet and to start off you're going to chain three and this is going to act
as our first stitch and in this round we're going to have 12 in total. So we're going to start off
by doing another 11 trebles. So you want to yarn over, insert your hook into the very center of
that circle, yarn over and pull through and you'll have three loops on the hook. Yarn over, pull
through two and yarn over, pull through two. So that's your first treble crochet and then you want
to continue all the way around until you have done another 11 stitches and with that first
chain three that we did that counts as the 12th stitch. So pause the video, work your way around
and I'll show you how to connect and do your next round. Okay so there are my 11 stitches plus that
chain three which equals 12. So now what you want to do is insert your hook into the top of that chain
three, grab the yarn and pull it through for a slip stitch and that creates your circle. So the
general rule of what we're going to be doing here is increasing our stitches or increasing our
rounds by the amount that you've done in your original round. So we've done 12 here and we're
going to increase the next round by 12. So the way that we do that is we always start off with a chain
three to class as our first stitch and what we're going to do now is increase each stitch as we
work our way around. So in that very same space where you've just done that chain three
you're also going to do another treble crochet, so that's an increase there. Then when we look
at the top of the next stitch we're going to do another increase there. So you're just going to do
two trebles into that space one and two and again two trebles so an increase into the next space
and you will continue to do two trebles all the way around into the top of each stitch from the
previous row and you'll end up with 24 in that next round so you've added 12. So pause the video
work your increases into each space and meet me back at the beginning. So now you've finished
that round you're going to go ahead and insert your hook into the top of the chain three and
just slip stitch that together and you're going to start off again by chaining three two three
and that clatters as your first treble. We're then going to increase in this space again to
begin with and because we are increasing by 12 each time so this is 12 this is 24 and then this
round will be 36 so we don't want to add two uh we don't want to do a an increase in every space
because that will um double the amount of stitches so what we do this time is we do an
increase and then we just do one treble into the top of the next stitch and then we increase again
so that's one and two into the same space and then do a treble into the top of the next stitch
and then you increase again one and two and again a treble into the top of the next stitch
so it's an increase a single an increase a single an increase a single all the way around
and then you'll end up with 36 stitches so pause the video and meet me back at the beginning.
So I've just finished that round and I'm going to slip stitch into the top of the
first chain three that we did and then I'm going to start the next round by
chaining three to start as our first treble I'm then going to do a another treble into that same
space so that we do an increase and this time again because we only want to increase by 12
what you're going to do is do a treble into the next space and then another treble into the next
space and then start again so increase one and two so two into the same space and a single treble
and a single treble and an increase and a single treble and a single treble
so pause the video work your way around meet me at the beginning and I'll show you one more row
of how you would keep increasing your circle and then hopefully you should get the hang
of how it works so pause the video and meet me back in a moment okay so I've just finished this
round as with the rounds before I'm going to slip stitch into the top of that chain three
make sure you pull on that nice and tight so you can still see where your first stitch is going to
be you're going to chain three for your first stitch and then do your first increase into that
same space and then if you've not guessed it already this time we are going to increase to 60
and you're going to start off by doing a single treble into the next three spaces
so that's an increase one two and three and then an increase so two into the same space
and three single stitches one two and three so you would do that all the way around
now you would connect and then the next row would have an increase and four stitches
and the next row after that would have an increase and five stitches so this is how you would make
your flat circle and obviously you can keep going to however big you would want it to go
the main reason why I did this tutorial is because people were asking how they can make their coasters
larger so you would just do your circle to the size that you want and then you would go and work
on the outer rounds of the coaster I shall leave a link in the description box to the coaster tutorial
but you can add the fancy stitches around the edges to whatever size circle you want so I hope
you've enjoyed this tutorial I hope that you found it helpful make sure you give me a thumbs up if
you liked it subscribe to keep up to date with any of my latest videos thank you so much for
