From Great American Ballpark, it's game two of the weekend set between the Cincinnati Reds and the New York Yankees.
He receives Weaver, who was outstanding against the Marlins. Yeah, I thought with the Marlins
he threw a really nice job of his fastball changeup slider combination.
Laverne Torres steps up to the plate. And Torres lines a base hit into left centerfield, can hear plenty of
Yankees fans here in the ballpark. Here is Judge, homered in the first inning yesterday.
Judge rips it past the third baseman, Senzel, into left field.
Torres took a big turn, going to have to get back, and does, does, in time.
India says,
take a look. So first and second, nobody out. Here is Rizzo.
Rolled right side, India gathers. Middleway to second, McLean, in time, double play.
Torres over to third, but Judge and Rizzo erased. This is a great double play right here.
Jonathan India does a really nice job of the feed to second base, catching that ball nicely. Pitch to DJ LeMahieu.
Anthony, strike three.
LeMahieu doesn't like it, but that was a great pitch, and it was certainly a strike. The inning is over. On the mound for the
Yankees, Johnny Brito.
I mean, I think that league is starting to sit on his changeup as good as it is. Last time out at the Jays, which
he threw the ball well, but Jays were four for nine against his changeup. But Jonathan India,
he got him looking at 96 on the outside corner, and India is down for the first out. Matt McLean, in his home
debut, doubled. Two for four run scored yesterday.
Patient walk,
exacted by McLean. The Reds' biggest spark
offensively came again off the bat of Fraley last night. A two-run double in the home six that nearly left the yard to tie the
game. Awkward stumble, pitch, and a point for a balk. McLean gets second.
Broke his bat. That's to center. There's another hit. Green light McLean. It trickles to Bader.
McLean scores on the slide, and the Reds claim a 1-0 lead.
Hit in the air to right field.
Bowers over towards the line makes the catch for the second out. Runner going, throw over, and Fraley is
in there. Fraley had taken off, and by the time he got to Rizzo at first, he was almost at second.
Yeah, Anthony Rizzo could do nothing. He got rid of the ball quick.
I think he's out anyway, and the Yankees are going to challenge this, Paul.
I think Torres gets him on the shin before he makes the bag.
I don't know if they're gonna have enough to overturn it,
but he does look out. After review, the call on the field is overturned. The runner is out.
So it's a pickoff of Fraley, and that will do it here in the first inning.
The Reds get a run, and the side is retired.
So it's a 1-2-3 second inning for Luke Weaver, and we head to the bottom of the second inning.
It's the Reds 1, Yankees nothing. And it's a 1-2-3 inning for Johnny Brito. Nothing to cross for Cincinnati.
We move to the third. It's 1-0 Reds.
It became a thing for Yankees fans and Yankees social media following. Does Ben Roortveld exist?
Because he had not been seen since being acquired last year for Minnesota. Roortveld hits that in the air, deep to left field, and off
the wall. Ben Roortveld racing into second, and he's in there with a double.
Did he just pull a John Cena, you can't see me?
Laver Torres at the knee, strike three.
So two down, and that will bring Aaron Judge to the plate.
So P. Rose sitting there, front row, sharing a laugh with Aaron Judge.
Judge hammers that to left field. That ball is off the base of the wall.
Roortveld will score, was smoked with such velocity that it's a loud RBI single for Aaron Judge.
Brito does not execute as Fraley forces another walk that loads the bases.
Three straight, two-out walks, and a big chance for Spencer Steer, who gets a violation out of the gate.
Chopped left side, backhand Volpe to second. Not in time!
India scores! 2-1 Reds.
And Barrero will reach on a two-out infield hit.
Here's Luke Maley.
Back-to-back ball games for Luke Maley, where he has started and he has left the building.
Last time in Colorado, this time in front of a packed house in Cincinnati.
Two-out thunder! The Reds' lead expands, it's 4-1.
Put out complete.
Here's IKF.
Kind of a left, but charges that to left field.
Fraley will watch it fly!
IKF starting to flex his second home run of the road trip.
And it's a 4-2 game.
This is the table setters here. Roortveld in labor.
Now all of a sudden Aaron Judge has the ability to put this team ahead, obviously, with one swing of the bat.
Hammered to left field. Nobody's catching it.
It's one up off the wall!
Roortveld will score!
Torres stops at third.
It's a three-hit afternoon for Aaron Judge.
An RBI double, and it's a 4-3 game.
Anthony Rizzo.
Rizzo lines that to right field.
That'll get down for a base hit.
Judge is going to be waved home.
Here's the throw in plenty of time for the out.
So the Yankees tie the game on an RBI single from Rizzo.
But Judge out by a lot on what probably was a questionable send.
So a leadoff walk.
One down.
Will Myers has bounced to third.
He is struck out looking.
That's driven to left field.
Kyner Falefa fighting the sun!
And makes the catch!
Wow!
IKF nearly danced his way into trouble, but comes down without number two.
Yep. Sure can.
Nice work from Ron Marinaccio.
Nice 1-2-3-8 for Lucas Sims.
We head to the bottom of the eighth inning.
It's still the Reds and Yankees.
Tied at four on the 1-2-3 inning for Michael King.
And we go to the ninth.
Tied at four.
We go to the ninth.
Alexis Diaz comes in out of the Reds' bullpen
and retires the Yankees 1-2-3 in the ninth.
Do the Reds have a walk-off in them?
We'll find out when we come back.
Tied at four.
And the Yankees' Clay Holmes is in.
Grounded hard off of Holmes.
Can he find it?
Yes.
Does he get him?
Uh-huh.
One down.
And here is Stuart Fairchild.
Came in for Barrero.
Drives that in the air to right center field and deep.
Bader back.
So is Cabrera.
It is Bader on the center of the track for the second out.
Bailey's on.
Winning run on base.
India will get a chance.
Crumples in pain, clutching at his left knee on a foul ball.
Tomas Vera streaks out.
India rubbing that knee.
Another 2-2 coming.
He got him.
Clay Holmes strikes out Jonathan India.
And we will go to the ten.
Tied at four.
Multiple changes.
And some of it dominoes from Jonathan India,
who fouled a ball off his knee.
He's still limping noticeably.
He is out of the game.
Pinch running for Rortved.
So Greg Allen made it here in time for the game,
a day that Aaron Hicks was DFA'd.
Torres flicks that into right.
Allen is going to tag.
Myers makes the catch.
Here comes Allen.
Myers' throw is a little off line.
And Allen advances to third as the go-ahead run.
Infield in for Judge.
Hunter at third, one out.
Base hit left field.
Fourth hit of the day for Judge.
Scoring is Allen.
And the Yankees take a 5-4 tenth inning lead.
Now Rizzo does as well in a loud way.
Goodbye.
Second straight day.
Nearly the same spot.
And the Yankees have picked up three runs in the top of the tenth,
his 11th of the season.
And it's now 7-4 Yanks.
And the Yankees an out away.
Steer one for four on the day, and he represents the last hope.
Grounded to LeMahieu.
And that is the ball game.
Yankees win it 7-4 in ten
and take the first two games of this series in Cincinnati.
