Well, the Cera umpire jumps in.
I'm not sure whether he'll check the mark.
I don't think he'll need to.
And Medvedev is the master in Rome.
A lot of respect up at the nets between the two finalists.
And it is a sixth Masters 1000 title
for this man at six different venues.
And significantly, of course, his very first title on clay.
Two tight sets go his way.
Seven, five, seven, five.
Daniel, on your very first title on clay,
you hadn't won a match here in Rome before this year.
Did you honestly think you'd be able to stand here at the end with the trophy?
Now, I mean, I always want to believe in myself
and I always try to do my best.
I want to win the biggest tournaments in the world.
In the same time, honestly, I didn't believe much
I can win a Masters 1000 on clay in my career because usually I hated it.
I hated playing on it.
I didn't feel good on it like nothing was working so I can continue forever.
Before this tournament, already in Madrid and Monte Carlo,
I was kind of feeling not too bad.
I was I didn't have any big tantrums.
You know, I was like, OK, you know, guys played better than me who beat me there.
But OK, let's continue.
And coming here, I felt amazing on practice.
Like I felt so good.
I told my coach, he came a little bit later and I was like,
I don't know what's happening, but I'm feeling amazing.
Let's see how it goes.
But then you need to play the toughest opponents in the world to try to make it.
And I'm really happy that I managed to to do it and prove myself
and everybody that I'm capable of doing it.
And Holger certainly is a tough opponent.
What did you do well, particularly today?
Tough match.
I think we both started a little bit nervous and we're both missing,
let's say, our basics like we were missing some some easy shots.
We were kind of not holding the game, both of us.
So I'm happy that at the end of the set,
I managed to step it up just before he did.
And then second set, he stepped it up straight away.
And I was like, OK, that's a moment where I have to to start,
you know, thinking, overthinking and I have to start just playing better
and try to
go to his level.
And then it was a top match from from this from this moment.
And I think, yeah, I was just playing amazing.
And then now you said you hated clay before.
Is this the beginning of a beautiful friendship?
Friendship? I don't think I love it.
I love hardcourt.
My only love, but in tennis, huh?
But I definitely like clay courts much more now.
Massive congratulations. Thank you.
Thank you. Thank you.
Olgierd Brune!
A few words, Olgierd, this first.
Yeah, good evening, everybody.
First of all, I want to say congrats to Daniel.
You know, you played amazing this season and winning your first title
on clay as well. Very, very well done.
So congrats to you and your team as well.
Yeah, and then I want to say thank you to my team, to, you know,
Patrick, to Mike, to Lapo, my mom, Philippe and, you know,
everybody supporting at home for giving me, you know, the support that
that I need. And yeah, thank you so much, guys.
And then it's it's been an amazing week for me here in Rome.
You know, I really enjoyed it.
I love the Italian vibe, the food, the people.
So everything is amazing.
And last, thank you, last but not least, I want to say thanks to the crowd as well.
It's been energetic the whole week.
You know, it's been super fun to play in front of you guys.
And I can't wait for next year.
Grazie mille. Thank you.
First of all, I would like to congratulate Holger, your second final.
I know we always want more in your career.
You're going to have some defeats, some victories.
But you're an amazing player.
You have a long career ahead of you, and I'm sure you're going to win
more Masters, thousands.
So it was a pleasure to share the final with you and your team.
Patrick, great academy. Thanks a lot for having me there.
Yeah, good luck later, guys.
And definitely, yeah, enjoy, enjoy practicing and playing with you.
Then I want to thank my team, Gilles, Dasha, who were here with me.
Eric was here with me a little bit, but didn't stay till the end.
I mean, who would have thought that I would be standing here?
I honestly didn't.
I know. I don't know about you guys, but I honestly didn't think so.
But it happened.
I'm really happy.
Thanks for for helping me throughout.
Yeah, reach, reach the heights of my career.
And let's go for much more.
And also thanks a lot to everyone who is watching, helping me at home,
my family, my friends, my team.
You're all really special to me and I enjoy it every day.
Thanks to his team.
Of course, there's Gilles and Dasha in the box,
but there are many people at home, his family.
Who would have said that I would have been here as the winner of this tournament?
I don't, but maybe you did.
You gave me the great support to be able to do it.
I have to say thanks to Carlos.
I don't see him because I actually thought the last ball was in and it was out by far.
And he saw it first.
So thank you, Carlos.
I don't see him, but yeah, thanks a lot.
I don't see him, but I thank him because I thought the last ball was in.
So I thank Carlos.
Otherwise, I would continue the point and that would be...
I would have continued to play the point.
So we were still here to play.
Then thanks.
Thanks to every sponsor, Paolo, Sergio, for making an amazing event.
I'm sure it was maybe the two toughest weeks of your life with all the rain
and probably when it's raining, delayed, you get a lot of mess to clean.
So thanks a lot, guys.
If not this tournament, again, I would not win a Masters 1000.
So thank you.
And thank you, guys.
Thank you for coming out,
for supporting throughout the week.
You know, sometimes sometimes I make you angry.
Sometimes you make me angry.
Sometimes I make you happy.
Sometimes you make me happy.
So I'm happy today.
I hope you are happy, too. Thank you, guys.
He has come to smile and he has made me happy.
So thank you all.
Today I am really happy and content.
Ladies and gentlemen, the winner of the Masters 1000 in Rome,
Daniel Bettencourt!
Special moments for a special player
who has conquered his demons on the surface, really.
And a very nice speech as well.
Robbie was nodding as Daniel paid tribute to his coach, Gilles Savary.
You like those moments, don't you?
The hard work that some of the other members of the team put in.
Absolutely.
And that's why I wanted to share the story during the match
about that frank conversation they had from Canada DeCinci in the car
in his early days.
He was ranked 55-60 in the world.
