Early Shen Yun Pieces: Sleeves of the Sui Dynasty (2016 Production)

In a pavilion of flowers, maidens wearing long “water sleeves” dance beneath a soft light’s golden rays. This piece is set in the Sui Dynasty (581–618), though the use of silky water sleeves dates back at least a thousand years earlier. The movements of this type of dance served as inspiration for ancient statues of imperial court dancers, a testament to classical Chinese dance’s enduring history.
