You know, it's crazy how small the world is that we're both able to end up in the biggest
city in the world, playing ball, playing the sports that we love, and grew up playing,
and, you know, not having the past that we had.
So, for me, just seeing his success is so exciting, and I know he feels the same way,
and then to be able to come and support him is everything to me.
Garasko coming off 6-2, terrific innings against the Cubs last Thursday, allowed just a run
on five hits at his curveball, and his changeup working beautifully at that start.
The usual reception for Bryce Harper.
Thirty-four home runs against the Mets, 14 here.
And he lines that one sharply through the middle of base hit.
The man just doesn't skip a beat.
He really doesn't.
2-2 pitch.
In there, strike three, called, and that retires the side.
Garasko gets him with a changeup, his first strikeout, and the Phillies are done in the
first.
No runs a hit, one left.
Nolan, 9-7, lifetime, with a 3.30 ERA against the New York Mets.
He's faced them a lot, 25 times.
It's popped up as well, shallow left, going out Turner and Sosa.
Sosa stays with it, makes the catch this time, and that will do it.
Three easy pop-ups here in the first.
Two outs here in the second, and Brandon Marsh coming up, and he lines that one out toward
left center field.
Nimmo's not going to get it.
It's going to take a hop off the Verizon side, and Marsh will pull in the second base with
a stand-up double, his ninth double of the year.
The 0-1, lifted in the air to left, Kan is under it, makes the one-hand catch, and that
retires the side.
Sosa in the lineup tonight, because Alec Baum is on the bench.
That ball's hit well out to left field.
Kan is going back.
It's going to be over his head, and it's off the top of the wall.
Sosa's on his way to second.
I think it's a home run.
And Sosa stands up at second, but now the second base umpire's saying it is a home run.
It was above the orange line, it hit the black fencing, and the Phillies take a 1-0 lead.
Yeah, man, good call.
That's the right call.
It's about a half a foot above it, as Stott lines a single up the middle for a base hit.
There goes Stott.
Pitch is grounded as shortstop, so they'll stay out of the double play.
Lindor has to hurry the throw, and just does.
Wow.
Bryce Harper, the batter.
Harper had a single to center his first time up.
Carrasco ahead 0-2.
And Harper chases a change-up in the dirt, and Carrasco has his third strikeout.
Two down.
Two down, runner at second.
Here's Castellanos.
Pitch.
Chopped in front of the plate.
Nito springs out in the grass, picks it up, whips it down to first in time.
Tomas Nito, like a cat, jumping in front of home plate.
Inside ball four.
A four-pitch walk after just taking a 1-0 lead.
So, Vogel back is aboard.
Here's Mark Canna.
Here comes the 2-1.
Canna rips one in the air.
Left field.
This sends Schwarbert back.
He looks up.
It is out of here.
Two-run home run.
Mark Canna, right over the left field wall.
Canna's been talking since spring training about trying to generate some more power.
Alonzo popped up to the first baseman, his first time up.
Ripped on the ground through the left side.
A base hit beyond a diving at Mundo Sosa.
And the Mets have two men on.
Second walk for Nolan.
And he takes outside.
Ball four.
So, for the second straight time, Vogel back draws a four-pitch walk.
And the bases are loaded for Canna.
And Mark lines one into right field.
A base hit.
Alonzo is in.
Beaty right behind him.
It's a two-run single for Mark Canna.
He's driven it all four runs, and the Mets lead it 4-1.
0-2.
Swing and a miss.
Curve ball.
4-1 lead against the Phillies after four.
Clemens holds at first base with a well-struck single.
3-2.
Nobody out.
He's running.
And it's lined to Lindor.
And that will be a double play.
So, Rob Thompson, down by three runs, puts the runner in motion on 3-2
and pays for it with a line drive 6-3 double play.
1-2 pitch.
Swing and a hard ground ball up the middle.
Flag down on the outfield grasp by Lindor.
Hurls it to first in time.
Lindor showing off.
And then very smoothly, no rush.
The complete spin and perfect throw.
That is a fabulous play.
Way outside ball four.
And that is the first walk allowed tonight by Carlos Carrasco.
So, that pushes Castellanos up to second.
And that will bring up J.T. Realbuto representing the potential tying run.
Slowly hit to Beaty.
Charges.
Fires.
Got him.
Side retired.
Carrasco strands a couple in the sixth.
He's through six innings with a 4-1 lead.
Aaron Nola goes back to work here in the sixth inning.
He'll face Beaty Marte in Vogelbeck.
Aaron begins this inning with 87 pitches.
Look at the miss.
That was a nasty curveball.
Five strikeouts for Nola.
Curveball rolled out towards second to his left to stop.
You've got to hurry with Marte, don't you?
They're two away.
Swung on.
Popped up.
As that's third base side foul territory.
Sosa now back into fairground.
Makes the catch.
And that will retire the side.
1-2-3.
Go the Mets.
We'll go to the seventh.
It's 4-1 New York.
We go to the seventh inning.
Mets with a 4-1 lead.
They'll go to their bullpen on the seventh.
But Carlos Carrasco through six terrific innings.
And a good slider by Raleigh to strike out Marsh for the first down of the seventh.
1-2 coming.
And it's hit toward the middle of the dive.
And Lindor can't get to that one.
And Clemens has his second hit of the night.
The 0-2.
Got him swinging down and away with a chainsaw.
So Raleigh comes back after giving up a hit to the lefty to put away the righty Sosa.
And he pulls one on the ground.
Passes McDeal into right field to base it.
Clemens will stop at second.
Marte throws it behind him.
And so the Phillies will get the tying run to bat with Trey Turner coming up.
Hit on the ground to third.
Beatty to his right.
Feels in the backhand.
Long throw.
In time.
He got him.
Brett Beatty throws out Trey Turner.
Brooks Raleigh leaves a pair.
And the Mets hold on.
David Robertson in for the second straight day.
Fourth time this year he's worked back-to-back days.
Swing and a high fly ball to center.
It's deep but it appears playable.
Yep.
Nemo is back in front of the track.
Moving to his left makes the catch.
One man out.
Bounce off the glove of Robertson.
And that will go into right field.
And Marsh is aboard with a lucky hit.
Marsh at first with one out.
0-2 to Clemens.
And he gets hit by the pitch.
A slider that ran in at him in the leg.
And now the Phillies will get the tying run to bat.
Base it off his glove.
Now an 0-2 pitch.
And he drills Clemens.
Desperate for a hit with a man in scoring position.
They're 0-5 today.
0-2 from Robertson.
Struck him out.
Got him with a curve ball.
And that's the second out.
Beautiful curve.
So now the Phillies are down to their final out
with Bryce's stunt at the plate.
Two on, two out.
City Field comes to its feet almost en masse.
He struck him out.
And Robertson puts on the finishing touches
for the second straight night.
Fine start for Cookie Carrasco.
Mark Cannon drives in four runs.
And the Mets defeat the Phillies for the second straight day.
The final score, the New York Mets 4
and the Philadelphia Phillies 1.
