Today I’m on a quest to find the secret fairy garden in my local area which has been created by the “Friends of Great Berry” which is a group of volunteer gardeners who go around our local area making everything look beautiful, such as plant up containers around the little row of shops, paint the posts by the children’s’ play area and look after the local pond, lots of lovely things like that.
I saw they had a Facebook post about the Sensory Garden they have made which also has a secret Fairy Garden and I decided that I’d try and find it and add all the little fairy garden pieces I still have from when I made my little fairy garden last year.
Since it’s in a secret location hidden in the woods, all they would tell me was I had to walk the path around the edge of the park and look for the Sensory Garden, then I would find the Fairy Garden hidden in between 3 trees.
So today I’m setting off with my dogs, Lotte & Lucy, and my backpack full of fairy garden bits and pieces in search of the mysterious fairy garden. I hope you enjoy coming along with me and seeing the lovely area where I live in Langdon Hills, Essex on the South East Coast of England.
If you’d like to join my Facebook page, also called The Enthusiastic Gardener, you can find it by clicking this link:
Good morning everyone, it's Jeanette, Enthusiastic Gardener. Yesterday I did a load of weeding.
I don't mind weeding actually, it's quite therapeutic but it was quite hot. But today
what I was doing, I sit over there indoors and I look this way and this area here gets very very
windy so I'm thinking I need to stake this apple tree. I live in an area called Langdon Hills in
Essex and there's a wonderful group called the Friends of Great Berry and they're a group of
gardening friends and what they do as a team and they do it all volunteer and they go around and
they just like make our area look so much prettier. They painted wonderful railings around the play
area in our open space park land and they do things like go and plant up window boxes, they
look after the the ponds and the lakes and all lovely things. I would love to join them to be
honest but I just really because I work all the time I just I just can't. But if one day when I'm
retired I will join the Friends of Great Berry and help them out. But one thing was they have created
a fairy garden, a sensory garden and they showed pictures of it and I thought I've got fairy garden
bits. Do you remember I made a fairy garden so I've got all bits like this and I thought I would
take the dogs on the dog walk and go and put the my fairy bits in their fairy garden. So I asked
where is your fairy garden and but it's a kind of a secret so they've given me clues of how to find
it look for the three big trees so whether I'll find it or not I don't know but anyway I'm going
to do that because Lottie and Lucy they have their little routine and they're waiting for their dog
walk so I thought I'll get all my bits in my backpack try and find this sensory fairy garden
at this and all the other little bits I've got if I can get up again because I've got my achy
weeding body. So let's go and find this fairy garden I have a few little bits I have this house
I have a couple of fences I have a little pathway a little bridge
a little table and chairs Lottie a little table and chairs a little birdhouse a little signpost
even have a little bicycle a river an arch a pond and I've even got some a couple of bits of fake
grass so I'm going to pack them all in my backpack take the dogs see if we can find
the fairy garden wish me luck on my quest to find the fairies so if you're sticking around
to help me find fairies let's wish me luck that's all I can say let's go find the fairies
right this is the lovely bridal path which is literally two minute walk from my front door
that leads down to the station which is a couple of minutes walk away and then this
bit here leads up to the Great Berry Park where we're heading and let's go see if we can find
fairies come on come on I'm coming no we're not going there we're going up here we're going up
here come on come right the lady told me take the path around the edge which is what I'm doing now
by the way out of interest we have these little electric scooters dotted around our area and what
you can do is you can pick them up take them for a ride and when your electric runs out obviously
you have to pay then you just leave them where they are and someone else goes along and
takes them on their journey which is quite fun so you often see them
I haven't actually had a go on one yet but I think I'd like to now we can see here
an example of something that the Friends of Great Berry have done
they're so lovely look now we need to find this sensory garden so we've got to keep alert but
this looks like something that they've done
a bee sand planter so this is it so we've got to find the sensory garden that's the pond
which they've helped oh look at this little duckling oh my goodness look at this
mum's going back to her baby's old look they're going for a little swim
almost between three trees gosh it could be anywhere
oh I just spoke to that lovely man who has a bichon very tall bichon he's told me that the
fairy garden is within sight it's very mysterious around here so within sight
I think I can see it in the distance very mysterious up here Lottie and Lucy love to run
but they want me to run as well oh look at this I think I can see it the sensory garden
oh how beautiful isn't that lovely that people do these things
for volunteers in between three trees could it be those three trees that is so pretty
where is the fairy garden this way Lottie Lottie we're going to the
sensory garden they don't want to go Friends of Great Berry come on we've got to find the
fairies this way oh that's so sweet look at what they've done how nice this was just
wasteland and they've done all this but where are the fairies ah I can see it's over there
come on oh look this is the fairy garden
oh is that not delightful look oh how sweet I bet the children absolutely love this
it's not very good lighting oh that's so true right well I'm going to add to the fairy garden
I can't film because I didn't bring my tripod so I'll just put the things out and show you after
hello Friends of Great Berry you have made such a beautiful little fairy garden I found it
and I've added a few bits I've added a little bridge and a tree house
a little house and a gate and a path and we have a table and chairs and a little pond
so I hope I've helped to make it even more magical
my little contribution and I hope whoever finds it likes it how pretty
Lottie wants to go she's bored she doesn't think it's pretty at all
here is the beautiful open space as well
and we just carry on up here and we can see all the lovely railings that they
painted around the edge of the children's playing area
so well done to the Friends of Great Berry for brightening up our community
what fun I won't film the children the open space is behind me you can see it's a beautiful area to
walk your dogs so thank you to the Friends of Great Berry for making our area so wonderful
how lovely we need people like that don't we and I think gardeners are always like that Lottie and
Lucy want to go home well I'm very pleased we found the fairies and the fairy houses and little
bits and pieces have new homes I'm Jeanette I'm The Enthusiastic Gardener have a wonderful
week take care everyone bye
