Good afternoon, everybody, from one of the last rights to Southampton's 11 years in the Premier League.
Something doesn't work in Liverpool as struggled this season, you've got to make some changes that helps the team and that's one of the...
Now given away, should be 1-0, is 1-0, Sainz, Gift, Diogo, Jota, a goal, it couldn't have been any easier.
And Sainz literally passed the ball to Jota in their own penalty area,
with McCarthy stood by a post, and Liverpool have the lead.
Alessandro Simicas over this free-kick, chucked into the penalty area, two-handed punch by McCarthy,
did a good job, got it away, Liverpool have the lead, they had the ball just inside the Sainz half.
That's a great pass to Firmino, Firmino to Firmino,
Firmino, dummies twice, three times, 2-0, fantastic goal.
And there will be celebrations in the away end and across Merseyside this afternoon,
because Bobby Firmino has scored in his very last goal game for Liverpool,
and Southampton are a mess at the back early on, 14 minutes gone, they trailed 2-0,
and Firmino got the ball off his compatriot Fabinho,
and that all-Brazilian pairing was enough to do Sainz inside to Elianussi,
then it goes backwards, and then it goes backwards again, and the crowd are disappointed.
Arsenal 2-0 up now, Granit Xhaka's got his second on the final day of the season for Arsenal,
who will finish second, lovely step-over for Alcaraz, he's a talent,
looks for a one-two, Suleymane gets it back, there's a man to his right,
no shot, and Sainz has scored.
And can you believe it, James Ward-Prowse has a goal
on what could be his final appearance in a Southampton shirt.
Lovely move from Sainz, and Ward-Prowse from open-foot play,
strokes the ball home, back past the goalkeeper Kelleher with his right foot,
and Sainz are back in it, we have got an end-of-season, open, entertaining game.
It's Southampton 1-0, Liverpool 2-0, and we've not even had 20 minutes.
Villa have gone 2-0 up, and Watkins has got the goal for Villa.
As Simicas hits the out-swinger from the corner,
to put near the penalty spot, bounces, goes past everyone,
big challenge on Milner, and Sainz are coming away with it,
and they might have a four-on-two here, Suleymane, can he make the right decision?
Slamantou, he's left, feeds him, shot comes in, curled straight at Kelleher.
Alcaraz couldn't get any power into it, and it's a wasted opportunity.
And Sainz get the ball back because Firmino showed too much of it to Lavia.
28th minute, that's a great ball, no shot, and a goal!
And suddenly Southampton are back in it, and Kamal Deen Suleymane
has his first Southampton goal on the last day of the season.
And from 2-0 down, Sainz are level with Liverpool at St Mary's,
and now we might have a rousing final day, and a final hurrah in the Premier League.
The 21-year-old Ghanaian, who's had an indifferent spell since joining the club in January,
has got his account underway against one of the biggest teams in the world.
Fantastic, Sainz back in it from 2-0 down, Jürgen Klopp will not be happy.
Right, on the left in the shadows, which are getting longer, or wider if you see what I mean,
coming towards us across the width of the pitch,
and then to end as the sun lowers behind the Kingsland stand.
And as the sun lowers on Southampton's Premier League existence as well,
but can they go out with a flurry?
Now they've got the ball just inside their own half,
and Suleymane has used his pace in his race past Firmino,
he's got two to his right, one to his left, he's still going!
What a fantastic strike.
Suleymane does cartwheels and somersaults,
and I tell you what everybody, just over seven years after they beat Liverpool 3-2 from 2-0 down,
Suleymane becomes the modern day Sadio Mane, and scores twice.
And Sainz have come from two down in 2023 to be 3-2 up against Liverpool,
and the young Garnier winger raced down the middle of the park,
nobody could keep up with him, and this time, as opposed to other games this season,
his finish was accomplished and precise and calm.
He has two, Sainz have come from 2-0 down, it's Southampton 3-2 Liverpool at the start of the second half.
As Salah does well, and then they've got the ball in behind here,
because there was a mistake from Lianco, Salah with a clever little pass,
Firmino with the backheel, Salah with the shot, should have been 3-0.
Second bite of the cherry for Jota, and it's cleared away by James Bree at the last moment.
Liverpool got a little bit lucky there with the bounce of the ball on the right-hand side,
but once they had, they really should have scored and levelled the game again.
When he's been good, he's been very good, because he is, he's a very talented footballer.
Takes up great areas, Joe, drifts across the pitch,
skips fast players and he can play a ball in, that's terrible from Liverpool!
They've given it away, and suddenly Adam Armstrong's got a chance,
his first touch! Would you believe it?
Armstrong's first touch, having not had a touch in some games,
is to put the ball in the back of the net, past Keleha.
Liverpool this time guilty of giving it away inside their own half,
and Sainz have punished them.
Adam Armstrong's second goal of the season, one in the first month, one in the last month,
would you believe the scoreline?
It is Southampton 4-0, Liverpool 2-0.
And if you thought that wasn't strange enough, Adam Armstrong scored a goal.
I know it's an end-of-season game, it doesn't matter, but 2-0 lead, Joe.
At least play like you're protecting it, get your foot on the ball,
play the clock, frustrate Liverpool, get bodies behind the ball,
surely that's the owe the fans that, hold on to this lead.
Yeah, and that's what we need for next season,
finish off with a win and good atmosphere, as it is here at the moment.
A bit of game management, here's Alexander-Arnold, that's brilliant.
Goal for Liverpool, Gakpo at the back post, nobody anywhere near him,
and it was all because of Alexander-Arnold's fantastic first-time ball.
Low, if it might have gone in itself, it hadn't been poked in,
but it was the perfect pass.
Good play by Liverpool, and we just said we've got to defend this, but that was good play.
But they haven't, it was good play, but they had the chance to clear it well before that.
And they should have got the foot on the ball like we said.
Anyway, it's now 4-3.
Crazy game, it's very entertaining, we did talk about 4-4 earlier,
and it might be now, Jota, through, smashes it!
Gone by Salah, Liverpool score two in under a minute,
and suddenly it is 4-4 at St Mary's.
Jota has a second, absolutely smashed it past McCarthy.
And Liverpool, from Salah's pass and Jota's emphatic finish,
are suddenly in a flash, all square, as McCarthy clears.
On the ball on half-way with Liverpool though, because they headed it back to half-way,
and they were quicker to pick the ball up, they've been quicker to everything for the last 15 minutes.
Jota now, on a hat-trick himself, like Suleymane,
and then that's a good ball cleared on the floor, but there's a Saints player left on the floor,
but Alcaraz can break to his right, Suleymane trying to stay onside,
the two youngsters trying to take Liverpool on on their own.
And eventually Elliot gets back, because Alcaraz had to wait,
there was no-one ahead of him, Joe, and he had nowhere to go,
and that's a great ball through the middle for Salah, oh, he's touched his genius!
Oh, it hits the post! Oh, my goodness me.
What a way that would have been to get to 20 goals in the season.
His first-time touch over the encroaching McCarthy,
the ball was looking like it was going over his head,
and he chipped it on the volley from a long ball forward.
Deaf touch, it was brilliant from Salah.
Man Utd still 2-1 up against Fulham.
And here, Saints trying to keep it at 4-1, and McCarthy does,
and Salah's denied his 20th Premier League goal of the season from about the penalty spot.
Elliot with the corner from the right for Liverpool,
punch from McCarthy's a strong one.
Milner will field it midway inside the Saints half,
goes out to the left to Diaz on the far side.
Luis Diaz, who had that terrible injury that missed out a lot of the season of course,
gets a little 1-2 now on the left, this is lovely from Liverpool,
Henderson on the edge of the D, back out on this right-hand side to Elliot,
chips it to the back post and McCarthy stretches, gathers,
and just about does well.
And then he bowls it out to put Saints on the break here.
And you never know, here comes Adam Armstrong making a run,
nice skill from Samuel Ammo.
And Ammo, with lovely skill, goes past two players like he's Neymar.
Plays it out to the left-hand side to Walker-Peters,
up against Trent, skips inside, lines the shot up and Keller tips it away.
Fantastic football in stoppage time at St Mary's,
and from Liverpool looking nailed on to win the game in stoppage time,
Southampton almost stung them on the counter-attack.
And the referee says, that is it.
Well, we haven't had cheers at the full-time whistle at St Mary's many times this season,
but that was a hugely entertaining end to a dreadful, dreadful season for Southampton.
They've drawn 4-4 with Liverpool.
