Hello and welcome to Sky Sports News. We start with breaking news. Manchester City have just
won the FA Cup. They've beaten Manchester United by two goals to one, thanks to two from Ilkay
Gundogan. It means they've done the double and will now have the chance to complete the treble
next weekend when they face Inter Milan in the Champions League final. Terry Gibson, former
Manchester United and Tottenham players have been watching it through the afternoon. A dramatic
final in many ways Terry. Did Manchester City deserve it overall? Yes they did. They started
the game off in incredible fashion. In fact both halves, they were the more alert team,
scored after 12 seconds in the first half and scored it early on 51 minutes at the beginning
of the second half when they'd already had a couple of chances straight after the half-time
break. So it was slow play from United. They'll look at it and they'll be regretful United that
they slipped up in the opening minutes of each half of this cup final. But in between all that,
City were dominant and it wasn't until the last 10 minutes of the game that we saw United
play direct, get the ball forward. They brought Verkoste on and they did get the ball in the
penalty area and called City some anxiety. Not an awful lot I have to say. The attacking players
for United weren't at their best. We didn't see enough of Jadon Sancho. We didn't see an awful lot
Marcus Rashford in his defence. He didn't get a lot of service and City were just on top all over
the place. De Bruyne was excellent. The match obviously has to be the player that got the brace
that wins the FA Cup for Manchester City. I think it's their second double. We shouldn't underestimate
the success. Everyone's talking about the treble which would be phenomenal but a double is a hell
of an achievement as well. De Bruyne was brilliant. He came off after 75 minutes which was a concern
but he appeared to be fit and healthy and City just had too much for United.
On today's evidence, I think we all knew anyway, I think there was a 14 point gap between United
and City that there is a big gap between the two teams. Some work for Ten Hag to do, some work in
the transfer market to try and claw their way back to a similar level as Pep Guardiola's
Manchester City but congratulations to the City. A double shouldn't be underestimated how hard that
is to achieve. Amazing start, wasn't it? The fastest ever goal in an FA Cup final from Ilkay
Gundogan after 12 seconds and it was quite simple from a City perspective, wasn't it?
It was. Back to the head kick off and it goes back to the goalkeeper Ortega who just launches
it downfield but he does launch it towards Erling Haaland who's pulled into a wide position to go
against Luke Shaw. Casemiro tries his best to try and help the diminutive defender and Haaland wins
the header and then surprisingly it's Kevin De Bruyne who's ahead of him looking for the flick on
and he out muscles I think it's Lindelof and when the ball bounces free about 25 yards out from goal
it's not a chance. Gundogan just strides onto it and hits it on the volley and seeing the replay
it's a fine finish, it's a great attempt. Slightly surprised the hair went down instead of up and
full length to try and make the save. It's like he accepted he had no chance of getting there
as soon as the ball left Gundogan's boot and then for 10 minutes after that City
looked like they were going to blow United away and you're looking at it and thinking
this could be an ugly afternoon for Manchester United on the basis of that first 15-20 minutes
but to their credit they scrapped, they stayed in the game. Somehow City didn't put them away
and on the 33rd minute there was a penalty quite fortunate for United. Jack Grealish
penalised for a defensive header at the far post where he jumps it goes over his head,
Wan-Bissaka heads it back across goal and it does hit the arm of Jack Grealish and we know that
this is going to be given as a penalty when VAR do get involved. So United were fortunate to be
level at half time and it's be a regret from Ten Hag that having got themselves back into the game
and finished the half strongly that they started so slow and I think Ten Hag would have reiterated
to his players that we have to be careful, we have to be alert the first 10-15 minutes of the
half because there was room for improvement from City after their first half performance and
United weren't and City put Gundogan again,
punished them and were ultimately the winning goal in the FA Cup final.
