Dante Alighieri, not only a poetic genius, but a great literati in general.
More or less, most of us are familiar with his work, especially the Divine Comedy.
Many times we have used this famous line,
All hope, abandon, ye wender here. But the reason I want to talk about Dante is different.
I would like to point out two things that light up his personality. Evans, his high standards on
First is his support to the white wealths, the function that wanted to provide privileges to
the people. And that was the reason he was exiled. And when he was given amnesty,
under the condition to admit in public that he was wrong, his answer was,
This is not the way for me to go back to my homeland. If you can find a way that is accordant
to the honor and glory of Dante, then yes, I will go back quickly.
The second is his contribution to the formation of the Italian language.
His brave decision to establish the vernacular language of Florence in literature,
at a time when most poetry was written in Latin, which was accessible only to
a few educated readers, was wise and important.
His style of writing, the Terza Rima, meaning the triple rhyme, is sometimes
monotonous, but beautiful. And it's a reference to the Holy Trinity.
The whole Divine Comedy is full of Biblical symbols. And the question is,
a part of studying this poetic genius, what Dante has to tell us today?
For me, is his statement. The way he chose to live according to his beliefs,
loyal to his ideas that never abandon, although he had to go through really bad moments because
of them. And second, his endeavor to make poetry a public domain, and not an affair
only for a few readers. He was against all the cliques. And that's the main characteristic
of all the great spirits. They see the world differently. And they want to make everyone
see it through their eyes. They're thirsty for knowledge and want everyone to taste
the sweet nectar of wisdom. As far as the rhyme, although poetry is not written this way anymore,
it would be interesting not only to study, but try to write this way as a brain exercise.
Thank you.
