A very good day for the last time this season from Rob Palmer and Stuart Robson.
Welcome to the Estadio Bernabeu.
It's the return of Vinicius Junior to the Barcelona team,
or to the Real Madrid team, should I say,
and the message is loud and proud,
there is no room for any form of discrimination or racism in the game of football.
Well, it is the A team that has been put out by Carlo Ancelotti this afternoon.
Leading the line, Karim Benzema.
Earlier today it was announced that he would be leaving Real Madrid
after 14 years in the summer
to seek his fame and indeed a fortune in Saudi Arabia.
Karim Benzema skippering the side today,
meeting the referee, Isidro Diaz de Mera Escuderos.
They'll be backed up by Alejandro Muniz Ruiz in the VAR room.
More motivation for Athletic Bilbao,
who start this game in eighth place.
They are on level with Osasuna on 50 points.
Remember, seventh place ensures that you play in the Europa Conference next season.
All eyes, all of the cameras trained on Karim Benzema.
25 majors in his illustrious Real Madrid career.
30 goals, of course, this season.
He actually joined the club back in 2009.
A raw 21-year-old from Lyon.
The all-time leading scorer, or the second all-time scorer with 353 goals.
Not only Marcelo has won more trophies in his Real Madrid career,
or as many as Ernesto Valverde.
It's going to be Nico Williams to fly it in.
You would imagine he's looking for his brother in there.
Is that a bit of a softhead or a cry for handball?
And the referee listens to the cry, buys himself a second or two,
and awards the penalty to Athletic Bilbao.
You could almost hear a pin drop inside the Bernabeu.
Well, anybody that was watching the FA Cup final in England,
this is exactly the same sort of aerial challenge.
His arm is out of his sight. He doesn't know it. He's not even looking.
He can't see the ball. You can hit him.
As he's landing, his arm's come out. I don't think you can do much more than that.
But I wouldn't give it but the laws say if your arm is away from your body,
if you're making yourself bigger and you stop the ball going into a good area,
there's every likelihood a penalty's going to be given.
And that's what the referee did there.
Well, this is an early gift to Athletic Club.
Courtois, I don't think he's had a touch of the ball yet,
trying to create a distraction on the goal line.
Oh, brilliant save.
Top-class save from Courtois.
I don't think we can put that one down as a penalty miss.
He guessed right, and he took flight.
Well, it's a nice height for him.
A really nice height for him, and it's a good save.
Mind you, was his foot beyond the line as this was taken?
Veszka tries to pass it in the corner.
Ball for that one.
Pens him up.
Good save by Unai Simoen, keeping out Vinicius Junior,
that created almost something out of nothing at all.
Yeah, brilliant.
Vinicius Junior.
Everybody thinks he's going to go for the far corner here.
He chops it back into the near post.
Veszka.
Miyake-Williams drops the shoulder,
forces another save from Thibaut Courtois,
who feels he's overworked.
Not sure if he's going to beat the goalkeeper at the near post,
but worth a try.
That's it with power.
Let's go down the outside of Rudiger.
Rudiger's up there, finds a way through.
Big chance here for Real Madrid, right on the brink of half-time.
Big save from Unai Simoen.
Tobias continues, gives it to Karim Benzema.
I think Bilbao are convinced that he's not going to go out in a blaze of glory.
Dek-Troos over the top.
Carvajal.
Well, he's been certainly the best outfield player for Real Madrid in the first half,
Dani Carvajal.
Certainly the player that's got forward as much as anybody.
I think he's made the most of the situations,
but this was a good effort.
Great ball again from Toni Kroos.
I think Rodrigo here should finish it,
and he takes another touch.
He allows the goalkeeper, Unai Simoen,
to go full-length.
Good save by Unai Simoen.
Well, the referee adds nothing to the first half.
It's been lively, it has been entertaining.
Di Marcos.
And generally fairly as well.
That's good, strong play from Di Marcos.
Di Marcos puts it inside.
On Courtois to the rescue yet again.
Sonset's there, but it's swept in.
Well, credit to Athletic Bilbao.
They have chipped away at Real Madrid.
And Sonset was the man who inspired that goal.
Well, he should have scored with the first shot,
but it's all down to the closing down of Di Marcos,
who wins it back off Servais in midfield.
No foul.
Sonset thought he should score with the first shot.
Good save by Courtois.
The second one he lifts into the roof of the net.
This is the challenge.
Good defending Di Marcos.
Pass is a good one.
And then the second one over the top of Courtois.
I don't think he tries to get there.
He was just stretching for it, Sonset, with the first shot.
The second one, gets his touch right,
then lifts it beyond Courtois.
A good start to the second half for Athletic Bilbao.
Well, to most of us that could be classed as a scrappy goal,
but if you're a supporter of Athletic Bilbao,
that is a thing of beauty.
But in the main, struggling to get in the side.
Here's Williams.
Gets it out of his feet.
Courtois is keeping the score down for Roman Ricci,
just a single athletic goal.
He's made a save with virtually every part of his giant body.
Here's Pichice.
Carvajal dives in.
Pichice plays it back and...
Well, the referee has given that a free kick for simulation,
for Sonset.
I think he felt the challenge was going to come,
pre-empted it by going down, and he's in the bad books.
This was an interesting one.
A good first touch to get it out of his feet.
This is the pass where he finds it to Iñaki Williams.
If there's one area where Iñaki Williams just needs to improve,
it's his finishing.
Great save, mind you, by Courtois.
Well, it's going to be a double change.
A welcome final appearance for Marco Asensio.
He takes the place of Demi Tobias,
whose long-term future is yet to be decided.
Vinicius Jr.
All arms and legs, Vivian,
shakes him off, deceives him,
and the second man as well.
That was a very heavy challenge,
a risky challenge at best.
Vinicius Jr. had the chance to cross it on three or four occasions,
and he goes down far too easy.
Tony Kroos assesses the options.
Benzema peels away at the edge of the area.
Militao.
Referee, right on top of the situation,
feels that is a penalty offence.
And it's Uri Becicce that's complaining most.
He's the player that made the challenge here.
Militao suggested he was hit in the face,
right in front of the referee.
Of course, Villar is looking at it.
It's a swinging arm,
so I don't think the referee or the VAR will get him to change his mind here.
That's a swinging arm into the face of Eder Militao,
by the full-back.
Militao's ability to go to head the ball
certainly impeded him.
Uri Becicce crossed the line
with his dissent at the decision.
It has been checked by Alejandro Ruiz,
the VAR.
Signs are not good, though, for Uri Becicce.
Could have been the second penalty of the game.
And a chance for Karim Benzema
in his last game for Real Madrid.
The legend scores for Real Madrid on his final appearance.
He's scored more goals against Athletic Club than any other team.
And he's scored against all of them in La Liga.
He's enjoying his own little party now
on his farewell performance.
His 354th goal for Real Madrid.
Well, it's a composed penalty.
We've seen him miss one or two.
The crowd applauded him.
He's applauding the crowd.
What a moment this is.
Going to Saudi Arabia, yes,
to finish his career earning a lot of money,
as we heard Andy Moreno talking about.
A similar sort of contract to you, I would say, Rob.
Well, only Cristiano Ronaldo scored more goals than the great,
and we can say great, Karim Benzema,
in the colours of Real Madrid.
A hug from the manager, a standing ovation from the auditorium.
The end of a glorious Real Madrid career.
Marco Asensio came on as a sub, got a standing ovation.
And this is clever management from Carlo Ancelotti
to allow a man who's played a prominent part
in recent successes.
There's the role of honour for Marco Asensio.
Sadly, in the last few years,
he's mainly been making late appearances as a substitute.
He's scored as many goals as the great Zinedine Zidane
in the shirt of Real Madrid.
An emotional parting of the ways
for a young man who's still at the prime of his career.
A good career at Real Madrid.
Sometimes settle for a place on the bench,
but when he's been called upon, he's played very well.
Almost any other club in Europe,
he'll be a starter week in, week out.
