Lavender loose tea packed fresh to order ensuring its quality and consistency from the Kent &
Sussex Tea & Coffee Company. Lavender is a plant belonging to the mint family. It originates from
the Mediterranean, although it has since spread across the world. Most species tend to grow up to
three feet high, boasting numerous slender straight branches. It's atop these branches the distinct
purple flowers are found exuding their potent, some might say irresistible aroma. It's these
flowers we use to make herbal tea. The ancient Egyptians were the first to use them as incense,
yet when it comes to the benefits of lavender tea in particular, we have the Greek naturalist
Dioskourdes to thank, noting that when consumed lavender could relieve indigestion,
headaches and sore throats. And of course, lavender is renowned for its ability to aid sleep.
Our delicious lavender herbal tea is 100% free of caffeine. This stimulating chemical compound
famously provides an energy boost which is perhaps the last thing you want before going to bed,
but worry not as you won't find any in this particular cuppa. So how do you make the perfect
cup of lavender tea? Well this is how we do it at the Kent & Sussex Tea & Coffee Company.
First we put some lavender loose tea into a tea infuser or filter. Place the tea filled
accessory into a mug or cup. We're using a glass teapot so you can see the infusion take place.
Pour freshly boiled water over the petals, ideally at 95 degrees celsius,
and allow it to steep for five to ten minutes, depending on how strong or weak you like your tea.
We think it's best served without additions, however some do like to add a little honey or
lemon. Nutritiousness of loose lavender tea comes about because of its vitamin and mineral content,
including vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium, magnesium, iron and other antioxidants. These
properties exist in significant amounts in your brew. Most famous however is its ability to improve
your sleeping patterns. Scientists at the UK University of Southampton conducted a study that
saw 10 adult participants split into two groups. The first group stepped in a room with a diffuser
exuding lavender essential oil, while the second group used a placebo almond oil diffuser. Later
in the study both groups switched places. The conclusion was that the lavender scented room
improved the quality of sleep in most participants. This was because of it stimulating the release of
certain neurotransmitters, which in turn offset stress hormones. Such capacity likewise helps
those suffering with anxiety, as supported by a 2011 study published in the Journal of Alternative
and Contemporary Medicine, which showcased some promising findings. It discovered that participants
who inhaled lavender oil experienced significantly reduced stress and anxiety levels, and an earlier
2005 study published in Psychology and Behaviour supports this theory, whereby volunteers awaiting
dental treatment found that lavender reduced anxiety. Lavender tea may not be suitable for
everyone. Those who are expecting might be best avoiding lavender leaf tea. The University of
Maryland Medical Centre advises against its use if you're pregnant. So with that in mind, the Kenton
Sussex Tea and Coffee Company choose to side with the experts. Otherwise you can order your freshly
