Paradise Creek and the Kaweah River are two very different waterways in Sequoia National Park. Several people have recently drown in the fast moving Kaweah, while the nearby Paradise Creek lives up to its name with a tranquil setting and crystal clear water. Our first stop after leaving Los Angeles to travel the world was Sequoia National Park. Despite being known for the gigantic Sequoia Trees, the park has plenty of other amazing things to do, including some pristine swimming holes, cliff jumps, caves and beautiful waterfalls.

My name is Jesse St Louis (AKA Infamous JSL) and I'm an actor that likes to go on awesome adventures between gigs. I've been called a "no frills Bear Grylls" but mostly I've been called an Actor. Traveler. Smart-ass.
Definitely a death trap.
I am in the foothills of the Sierras today
in Sequoia National Park,
right along the Cahuilla River here.
And we're headed out to explore Paradise Creek,
which is supposed to be an awesome creek
with swimming holes and waterfalls,
right about quarter to a half mile away
from Buckeye Flat Campground over here.
Now we were gonna try and camp at Buckeye Flat.
However, all the spots are taken.
So we're gonna hit some swimming holes around Sequoia today.
It's a high fire danger today.
So we saw some firefighters weed whacking
over by the day use parking lot,
just killing all this whacking,
cutting away all this really dry underbrush.
We have to park at the day use area
and hike in down this road.
Nice little spring here.
It adds about another mile to get to Paradise Creek.
Now, the Sequoias are experiencing heavy flow
in all their major waterways.
Not sure how many of these swimming holes in the Sierras
we're gonna be able to explore
because as you can see,
the Cahuilla River right here is absolutely raging.
Hopefully some of these other tributaries
are a lot calmer,
but much of the Sierras received about 20 feet of snow
in May this year,
and it's caused a lot of drowning deaths.
You can see on the Cahuilla,
there are some spots that look calm and tranquil,
but that is certainly not the case.
It is raging right now.
Definitely a swift water hazard.
There's signs up no swimming in the Cahuilla right now.
Multiple deaths, like I said,
due to high flow in the Sierras this year,
and actually one just last week here in the Cahuilla.
So hopefully these other side creeks like Paradise Creek
and another one we're gonna hit later in the day,
Stony Creek, aren't as high flow.
Otherwise, our time in the Sierra
is gonna be really short.
So we just came across the bridge,
across the Cahuilla, the Buckeye Flat Bridge there.
There's a rope swing.
Some people jump off the bridge.
It's raging pretty hard right now.
And then there's this fork here.
Keep going straight.
That takes you to Paradise Creek.
And if you go left, that takes you to Cahuilla Falls.
So first up today, we're gonna hit Cahuilla Falls.
It's gonna be raging.
We're not gonna be able to swim,
but we just wanna check it out.
And then we're gonna come back
and head over to Paradise Creek,
which is supposed to be more mellow.
So we should be able to go swimming there.
And there should be some little jumps and stuff there.
So first, Cahuilla Falls, then Backtrack.
I think they're both a quarter mile
from this junction here.
So lots to do in this area near Buckeye Flat Campground
in Sequoia National Park.
Well, I guess we're not going swimming
in Cahuilla Falls today.
Definitely a death trap.
Too crazy even for me for today.
But you can see the beautiful bluish clear snow melt there.
It's probably freezing.
Getting sprayed by this mist feels really nice.
Luckily, we have Paradise Creek on the other side.
It's nice and calm.
We should be able to go swimming over there.
So a five minute walk on the other side
brings us to Paradise Creek,
which as you can see, that's definitely swimmable.
Might be some jumps, I'm not sure.
Nice little pool at the top.
That one at the bottom looks pretty deep,
so I'm excited to jump in to Paradise Creek here.
Well, I guess I'm gonna go depth check this
and see if it's deep enough to do some of these jumps
from the top.
It looks like it is,
but you never know until you get in.
This water is snow melt,
so I'm sure it's gonna be cold.
That feels good.
So it looks like it's like seven and a half, eight feet deep.
Might be some jumps on this side.
I don't think there's any on that side.
Plenty more coming from the Sierras,
headed all the way up the West Coast to Canada.
