Hi, it's Olivia, video producer at Chowhound.
I don't know about you, but all this summer heat
is making me super sluggish, so I need some coffee.
Not just any coffee, I need cold brew.
Because it's less acidic, it's easier on your stomach,
and has a lot more caffeine in it.
So there are only a few things that you need to make this.
You need a measuring cup, your coffee beans.
I chose Intelligentsia to pay homage to my Chicago roots,
and it's delicious.
Then you need a bowl to pour the coffee into,
and then you have your mason jar.
This is a 32-ounce mason jar.
So something really important to remember
is that the coffee beans have to be ground very coarse,
similar to how you would grind your beans
for a French press.
So we're gonna grind one and a half cups of coffee.
Sorry, is that loud in your headphones?
One and a half cups of ground beans.
Fill the jar halfway, then you wanna give it a good stir.
Fill it up the rest of the way.
So I'm going to put the cap on,
and put it in the refrigerator, and wait for 16 hours.
Luckily, I already made some,
and I'm gonna show you how to filter it.
All we're going to need is the strainer,
and my coffee filter.
The purpose of having the coffee filter
over the mesh strainer,
there are small pieces of the beans
that can get through the mesh strainer.
It doesn't look like a lot, but it's very concentrated.
You can dilute it with water, oat milk,
or coconut milk even, yum.
I'm actually still allowing the rest of it
to strain in here.
But when it's done, I'm gonna put it in a mason jar,
and back in the refrigerator.
Wow, I made heart-shaped ice cubes of espresso.
I measured it out, and two of these hearts
are one shot of espresso,
which means when I put this in here,
I'm gonna make myself a red eye,
a heart for summer love.
That way, when it's hot out, and the ice starts to melt,
it doesn't become so watery from the ice cubes.
Vanilla oat milk.
Well, it's been a super productive morning already.
Got my coffee.
Gonna give Ori a little bit of peanut butter.
You know what?
It's gonna be a good day.
Cheers.
