Hi UpToOurKnees family! Welcome back to our channel. Today we are...I don't even know
what we're doing. Let's talk to UpToOurKnees dad because this is his idea.
It sounds fun but I don't really even know what it is. It's a mystery.
Now I went on a business trip over the weekend and as I drove back I decided not
to take the highway. I decided instead that I was going to take some back roads
because it was a beautiful day out and it was only going to take 2 or 3 minutes longer.
Cool. And I found all these cool little just tiny little spots and you know
these tiny little towns and thought it'd be kind of cool to go and hang out and
explore and we're gonna go see a former president's home like where he lived so
that's pretty cool. And then just a bunch of other little stuff. Whatever the heart
desires we're gonna go see because we're just gonna be driving and say hey that
looks fun let's do that. That's what we're gonna do. Alright folks so that's the plan.
We're glad to have you along with us but before we get there and do all of our
fun random things, make sure to subscribe to our channel and give us a big thumbs up.
We're here! We made it! We are at the Martin Van Buren, what does it say?
National Historic Site. I had to look at the sign over there. It's just off to the side.
We are doing the Junior Ranger Program and we got these books and we're gonna
go around the ground and find the secret password. It's cool because there are
ones for younger kids too. So this one says welcome to the Martin Van Buren
National Historical Site named Lindenwald. It's a beautiful place to
walk around and enjoy nature. Well first things first we brought some lunch so
we're gonna have lunch first. Because let's be honest how many people can say
that they've eaten lunch at a president's house before? It's true and
we're gonna do it. Eat lunch at Martin Van Buren's house. As you can see it's
right over here. How's that spot dude? Unfortunately I don't think we'll be
going into the house today. The tour for when we got here was already full and we
don't plan to be here too too long. So that'll be something for another time
probably never. We found the president that lives here. We found the president that lives here? Where? Over there. Did you see? They're talking to him. They're talking to the president?
This is getting really spooky. He's been dead for like 200 years. At least 150. I didn't know.
So one of the things that we are doing here is we have to decide if we are a
colonist or one of the King's soldiers in the American Revolution and we have
to come up with a secret message and bring it to the park ranger so that we
can figure out if they're a spy for our side or for theirs. So which side are
you gonna be on? Are you gonna be American colonist or one of the King's
soldiers? American colonist. Oh I like it. Sweet. So we have to put a C inside of our thing here. You see I've
already done that. We have to figure out a message using the decoder key. Oh yeah
there's a bug on me. There's gonna be bugs on me. We're outside. We have to
write a number on the line to represent a picture and sign it with three numbers
and then we're gonna take it to the park ranger's tent and he's gonna give us a
passcode. If it's the wrong passcode he's working for the wrong side.
Kind of interesting. You see the road that they're referring to. So it says one
of the stretches of unpaved for the Old Post Road is right here and you can see
where it is still. Not where that car is but right here. Probably along this stretch.
Which is pretty interesting. This house is set back just a little ways. This road right
here, the unpaved one, that's where the horse and buggy used to ride. Right here? Yeah.
Yeah. Van Buren named his farm for a tree. Here is the closer look at the house.
Come through the trees here. It's quite big. And up to our knees statue. Yeah I
Probably fake food. That's probably the kitchen. Oh yeah I can I can see the
table in the next window. Yeah it's the kitchen. Wait, wait, wait. Stay here, stay here.
Fruit on the table. Okay. You can see in there. Maybe we can see better on the other side.
Too much glare. Definitely the kitchen right here.
Oh yeah, brushes. These are for your boots when they're dirty.
Cleans off your... stick your foot in there and it cleans off the bottom of your boots.
secret compartment? Remember we're spies. All right we have to show it to the
park ranger so she can know what side we're on. And then she's gonna tell us
the code word. A C. All right. Is the word bananas? I only have two choices. Is that the word? Is that the word?
Bananas? Is bananas the secret word? Not sure. Do you remember? Was that the word? Oh phew
she's on our side. Okay here go ahead and read the secret code. Maybe, maybe
your older sister can help you. The circus is in the taco. The circus is in the taco.
All right. Sounds like you've accomplished your mission. Woohoo! High five. We help protect America.
Do you want a junior ranger badge baby? They're sharp so be careful. You may
want to ask one of the grown-ups here to pin them on. You can do that. Let's see. Junior ranger.
Put your right hand up like this honey. Like an elbow. There you go. All right so repeat after me.
As a junior ranger, I promise to teach others about what I learned today. Explore other parks and historic sites and help save these places so future people can enjoy them.
And I promise to eat all my vegetables. We like our veggies though.
