Early Shen Yun Pieces: Monkey King and the Dragon Palace (2016 Production)

Inspired by the classic novel Journey to the West, this piece introduces one of the book’s heroes, the Monkey King. Born from a rock infused with the mystical essence of Heaven and Earth, he became the ruler of all monkeys, due to his intelligence and courage. However, every warrior needs a weapon, and here Monkey’s search for just the right one soon leads him to the Dragon King’s palace at the bottom of the sea. There, the magical Monkey takes on the challenge of trying out their finest arms, before finding the perfect fit: a giant pillar. The only problem is, this pillar is responsible for stabilizing the sea.
