Hi, I'm Chris and Kathy and today today is June 25th, and this is our second one of the season
we were on our way up to Octonagin, Michigan to do a little craft show and I found this along the way
it was actually in a cemetery. That's where I find most of my puff balls is open fields
something like a ball diamond, a cemetery, people's yards, parks, some place where it gets mowed maybe
once a week every two weeks and it gives it a chance to grow. This one here is about 16 inches
wide there was another one growing with it that we left it was uh I don't know maybe five six inches
they come in you know they can be white to a tannish brown
anywhere from four inches up to two feet across
when you cut these open you want to make sure that they're pure white if they're not just throw
them away. So today we're gonna cut this one up and I'm gonna put some olive oil and salt pepper on it
and throw it on the grill so let's hope that this is nice and white in on the inside
and it actually ain't that bad so we're gonna cut this in oh three quarters of an inch or half inch
slices. Make some nice big mushroom steaks. With the size of this I'll probably only get maybe
three or four of these slabs on the grill.
There we go right now get some olive oil going on these
you know what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna slice off the bottom yeah
that's nice and nice and meaty yeah this was the part that was on the ground
all right so hopefully we can do this without getting rained on
you can hear the thunder we got some big storms coming through the area today
some books say that it isn't really preferred to dry these and some say you can just
freeze them the way they are put them in layers wax paper in between them
or you can saute them a little bit and freeze them that way but I think we're just gonna
eat this one right away all right so we'll put some salt and pepper on it
it looks good doesn't it yeah it does the ones you sauteed the other night are really good too
so I think this is going to be super and my the grill when I when I cook on the grill I use real
log wood chunks I don't use that for cats always started with paper that way in a chimney
you don't get the charcoal and later food taste to anything yuck
all right let's take these bad boys over to the grill
all right we're at the grill I got the grill grate brushed off and oiled and we're gonna put
these on here now I'll leave them on a few minutes on each side until I think they're done all right
those are going here's a reishi mushroom that I picked the other day it's a little young
they're usually a lot bigger I just wanted to make some tea out of this one so I harvested it
I'm waiting for it to dry get some nice grill marks I suppose I gotta impress everyone
they smell really good yeah well it's it's like a vegetable and a meat all in one
so I'll put the top on for a couple minutes and let's see what happens next
all right it's been a couple of minutes flip them over
that one can be yours that's on that side in the meantime here I'll show you
a little project I'm going to work on I found this here maple out in the woods the other day
while we were walking around it's got a nice little notch in there and I thought I'll make
a bird feeder out of this I gotta find a bigger conch to put on top for a cover but I'll put that
on there say maybe a 12 inch conch or so cover up the thing put some bird seed in there put a
hook through the middle and then I'll put a few coats of exterior poly on there and when I get
done with that I'll put a picture of it on our all things wild Facebook page which you should look
for us on Facebook at all things wild look for the canoe at the top of the page and when news
gets done we'll take them off and give them a try okay it's been a couple three more minutes
shake one off in here one off here and try it now I'm not gonna do what they do on
all the cooking shows and go oh
stay nice and white on the inside while I was cooking
I did it anyway didn't I
so the people that buy portabellas and button mushrooms only at a grocery store are really
missing out on a fine excellent edible wild mushroom like the giant puffball that I got here
that's excellent yeah I'll try one Kathy oh yeah
all right let's get the rest of that puppy on here
I guess all right I hope you like the video hope you share it hope you join my
YouTube channel and remember to look us up on Facebook see you later
