Hello friends! Welcome to Learning Mode Kids. Today we are going to learn about the fish.
Fish are cold-blooded vertebrates that live in the water. They can be found all over the world.
There are over 30,000 different kinds of fish with variety of colors and sizes.
Fish can be as large as 40 feet long and as small as one half inch long.
There are few things fish have in common. Just like other animals, fish needs oxygen to survive.
Fish have gills that help them to breathe in the water.
Most fish have four gills on both sides of their head. Sharks, lamprey and other primitive fish
may have five or more gill slits. Most fish are covered with scales which give them protection.
These scales are made of incredibly thin pieces of bones. Do you know why fish scales are slimy?
It is to protect the fish from bacteria, pollution and parasites. It also helps the fish glide in
the water easily so they can use less energy to swim. Fish have fins on their body too.
Dorsal fin, caudal or tail fin, anal fin, pectoral fin, ventral or pelvic fin.
These fins are used by the fish to maintain its position, move and stop. Fish can detect color.
Fish eye are rounder than in mammals, giving them good vision
and them to see better in the darkness of the sea.
Did you know that the shape of a fish mouth tells us a clue of what they eat?
The larger the mouth, the bigger the prey can consume.
The lateral line is a sensory organ consisting of fluid fill sacs that are open to the water
that sends water currents, pressure and movement. Fun facts about fish.
Sharks are the only fish that have eyelids.
Whales can swim backwards.
A jellyfish isn't really a fish.
An electric eel can produce a powerful draw of electricity up to 600 volts. That's scary!
Catfish have over 27,000 taste buds. That's a lot of taste buds as humans only have around 7,000.
Thank you for watching. Stay safe everyone. Bye-bye.
