Why are Tigers Orange in Color?
Simple.
I painted them Orange.

Humans are trichromats, i.e. their eyes can process red, green as well as blue colors.
Hence to humans, the tiger appears orange in color.
But Deers are dichromats, i.e. their eyes can only process green and blue colors.
This effectively makes them color blind.
Now, this actually helps the Deers to see better in dim light.
But because of this, the tiger appears green to the deer.
Now, this proves to be advantageous for the tiger as it creates an effective camouflage for him.
His green color matches with the background, thus making it harder for the deer to detect the tiger.
Hence, Tigers have evolved to become orange in color.
Why are Giraffes so tall?
Because they pull each other's necks and legs.
No.
Some scientists believe that being tall helps Giraffes feed on leaves which are present at greater heights.
As shorter herbivores are not able to reach those heights, it decreases the competition for food.
Another study suggests that a Giraffe's long neck has evolved to compete or fight for females.
Male Giraffes whip their neck and swing their heads violently into each other's ribs and neck.
This is called necking.
The Giraffe having longer neck tends to win and hence, is preferred by the female Giraffe.
A study also suggests that as the legs of Giraffes got longer.
Their necks also gradually got longer, so that they could easily drink water by bending their necks.
Some people also think that being tall helps Giraffes spot approaching predators.
While some others believe that being tall gave them a larger surface area.
Thus helping them regulate their body temperature.
They even fight against diseases and help us remain healthy.
However, as we begin to age, the cells cannot efficiently divide and fight against diseases.
Thus, eventually our lifespan begins to come to an end.
Now, it is believed that animals live longer because of the environments they live in.
For example, animals that live in cold oceans have slow metabolic rates.
According to a study, slow metabolic rate slows down the aging process.
Thus, making those animals live longer.
For example, Greenland Sharks which are found in cold Arctic oceans can live up to 400 years.
In addition to this, it is observed that the size of an animal also plays a role in determining its lifespan.
Smaller the animal, more are the number of predators.
Hence, the risk of dying early is high.
Thus, animals like mice have a lifespan of about 1 to 2 years.
As compared to elephants whose lifespan is about 60 years.
However, animals like bats and some other birds are an exception to this size rule.
Even though they are small, they don't die early.
And live a longer life because they have evolved strong defense mechanism.
Moreover, it is also observed that some species which breathe fewer times per minute seem to live longer.
For example, a tortoise which takes about 4 to 5 breaths per minute lives for more than 100 years.
While a dog which takes about 24 breaths per minute lives for approximately 10 to 20 years.
Also, according to a study, very small species of animals like flies and worms.
Lack the cells which divide and replace the old ones.
Hence, they don't live a long life.
But how can ears help to regulate body temperature?
In living beings like elephants, blood supplies heat to all parts of the body.
Thus helping it to maintain the body temperature.
However, due to metabolic activities or hot climate.
Sometimes heat in the blood can increase, thus increasing the body temperature of the elephant.
Now, an elephant's big ears are filled with blood vessels which are very close to the surface of the skin.
Hence, when blood having more amount of heat flows through the ears of the elephant.
The heat from the blood escapes into the atmosphere, cooling the blood and in turn cooling the elephant.
Why do elephants never forget?
Because I take their homework every day.
No.
It is because elephants have a relatively high and impressive encephalization quotient.
Higher encephalization quotient means the brain is bigger than the size expected for an animal of its size.
Elephants have an EQ of about 1.88.
In comparison, humans have an EQ of about 7.
Rats about 0.4, while pigs about 0.27.
This shows that elephants have a relatively high EQ which makes their memory strong.
Moreover, an incident in Tennessee even proved this fact.
Two elephants, Jenny and Shirley were together for a few months in a circus.
When they reunited after 23 years, they became excited and started bellowing.
Indicating that they remembered each other.
Also, studies have shown that elephants remember the way to water sources even after a long period of time.
Why do dogs lick their wounds?
Dogs including animals like cats, chimpanzees, rodents, etc.
Don't have access to a proper medical treatment.
Hence, a little licking helps to heal and clean the wound.
But how?
When dogs lick, they apply saliva on their wounds.
This saliva has antiviral and antibacterial compounds like an enzyme called lysozyme.
Lysozyme destroys cell walls of certain bacteria and helps kill them, thus preventing infection.
The saliva also contains a protein called tissue factor which promotes blood clotting and thus, stops bleeding.
Besides this, licking also removes dirt from the wound.
So, dogs should always lick their wounds.
No.
Excess licking is not beneficial.
This is because a dog's saliva can also contain harmful pathogens.
They could aggravate the wound and make it more painful.
Hence, nowadays, dogs are made to wear an Elizabethan collar to prevent them from licking.
Why do dogs wag their tails?
Because they are happy.
A dog's wagging tail doesn't always mean that it is happy or excited.
So, what does it mean?
Popular researches and studies over the years.
Suggest that the tail position and wagging direction represent different feelings or moods of dogs.
When the tail is hung down in its natural position, it means that the dog is calm and is not worried.
If the tail is curled in between its legs, it indicates that the dog is scared or anxious.
When the tail is straight up, it indicates that the dog is curious.
Or wants to show other smaller dogs that it is bigger and dominant.
Moreover, if the tail wags towards right, the dog is expressing positive emotions such as joy, excitement, etc.
However, if it wags towards left, it conveys negative emotions such as anxiety, stress, etc.
Let's turn this light on-off continuously.
Can you see the flicker?
Yes.
Ok.
Now, faster.
Wow.
Looks like a smooth continuous light without flicker.
For humans, the flicker fusion rate is more than 55 times per second.
Thus, television sets show 60 images per second, helping us perceive a smooth continuous video.
However, dogs process visual information much faster.
Processing 70 to 80 images per second.
Hence, the TV might appear to flicker to dogs.
Also, dogs have dichromatic vision.
That is, they can only see within the spectrum of yellow and blue.
Thus, images on TV might appear as a meaningless yellowish blue jumble.
Further, dogs are seen to respond more to sounds like barking, meowing, etc.
Why does my dog stink when it is wet?
Because water washes away their perfume.
No.
Many microbes like bacteria and fungi live in the fur of a dog.
These microbes excrete waste in the form of volatile organic compounds or VOCs.
These VOCs are responsible for the stink.
Now usually, when the dog is dry, some VOCs evaporate into air.
So, the stink or smell is hardly noticeable.
However, when the dog plays in water or bathes.
The water liberates most of the VOCs from its skin and fur into air.
Thus making the stink more noticeable.
In addition to this, some VOCs even dissolve in water.
As this water evaporates, it carries the VOCs with it, thus contributing to the stink.
Also, as the water evaporates.
It increases the humidity in the air surrounding the dog.
Humid air can hold more molecules.
So, a higher concentration of VOCs reaches our nose, thus intensifying the stink.
