Jaylen Brown has himself a new contract.
Brown and the Boston Celtics have agreed to the richest deal in NBA history.
Five years, $304 million supermax is what it is.
The deal tops the $276 million extension that Nikola Jokic signed with the Nuggets.
So Jaylen Brown agreeing to remain in Boston through 2029.
And when you look at the numbers, OK, yeah, probably you could say he deserved it.
All NBA selection for the first time behind an impressive season
where he set career highs in a number of key categories.
And Brown's five-year, $304 million extension, supermax extension
is the largest total value on any contract in NBA history.
Kendrick Perkins, I could not wait to get your reaction to those numbers.
Five years, $304 million.
The richest ever in history? Talk to me.
Dude!
All I could do right now, Sage, back the Brinks truck up.
That's exactly what happened.
And look, he earned every single penny.
But guess what? We cannot call him Jaylen Underappreciated Brown no more
because with this type of salary, the richest in NBA history, he's not underappreciated.
And look, at the end of the day, the Celtics took this stand
to show that they have no plans whatsoever of breaking up Jaylen Brown and Jason Tatum no time soon.
Although I was lobbying for it, he earned his money.
And I think, you know, Jaylen Brown is a guy that is scratching the surface of his prime.
And I think he will continue to get better and better and better.
But at the end of the day, he always has to remember he's playing in the city of champions,
one of the most historical franchises in sports history.
And all they give a damn about is winning championships.
Exactly. And he certainly knows that by now, too.
It's interesting because he had expressed some frustration,
especially throughout the latter part of last season.
So now he gets that deal.
I mean, there was some talk about, are they going to split this duo up?
So now he's staying. Jason Tatum, he's eligible for a Supermax next season, a year from now.
They have Christoph Porzingis in town now.
Of course, Marcus Smart is no longer there.
But big picture, what should the expectations be right now with all this said
and all the news today for the Boston Celtics?
Oh, it's championship of butts.
And it's been this way for the last two or three years.
We're talking about Jaylen Brown and Jason Tatum, one of the best duos in the game.
And they haven't completed the mission yet.
And when you look around the league, you look at the Milwaukee Bucks.
They brought back basically their entire team, especially their core group.
When you look at the Western Conference, it got stronger.
With the emergence of the Sacramento Kings, we saw what the Phoenix Suns did,
and Bradley Beal.
We cannot disrespect Jokic and Jamal Murray, the defending champions.
And so when you look around the overall landscape of the entire league,
the Celtics are on the clock.
The Celtics are on the clock.
We look at Jason Tatum and Jaylen Brown, they done went to multiple conference finals.
They reached the NBA finals.
Now it's time for them to complete the mission.
But it's championship of butts for the Celtics this season and here on out.
Are they the best team in the Eastern Conference?
No, they're not.
That's the Milwaukee Bucks, Sage.
You know, Giannis, Brooke Lopez, Chris Middleton, Drew Holiday.
I understand, you know, the Miami Heat snuck up on them
and did what they had to do last postseason.
But Giannis went down.
They have a new head coach.
And right now, if the season started today,
I would definitely pick the Milwaukee Bucks for us coming out of the Eastern Conference.
I'm so glad you said that.
The Bucks and the Heat.
If not, we're going to have a fight here right here on SportsCenter.
Kendrick Perkins, thank you, as always, for your perspective
and your sound effects with the Brinks truck backing up.
That was perfect.
Yeah, I tried.
I tried.
