Irish singer Sinead O'Connor, who was well known for her music as well as her activism
and troubled life, has sadly passed away at the age of 56.
In a statement, Sinead's family said, It's with great sadness that we announce the passing
of our beloved Sinead.
Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult
time.
No cause of death has been reported thus far.
She was best known for her single, Nothing Compares to You, released in 1990, which went
on to hit number 1 around the world.
In 2021, Sinead had put her multi-coloured seaside house in her native Ireland back on
the market for £683,000 after previously failing to sell the property in 2017.
At the time, it was said that Sinead had been staying at her holiday home instead.
The eccentric home that she put on the market offered 6 bedrooms, 4 spacious common rooms,
views of the nearby Irish beaches and more.
While the home was built in the 1860s and maintained a Victorian feel with classic touches,
Sinead had added her own twists as well, with colourful walls and artwork throughout.
Singer Sinead O'Connor has passed away at the age of 56, and while she's known for
her music career, she was also often talked about for her troubled life and being a subject
of controversy.
Sinead's rebellious nature was mainly driven by resentment at the abuse of her mother,
the abuse she suffered as a child and her experience in a Dublin reformatory.
It was music that rescued her, unleashing a creative talent that made her a worldwide
music star, but also a rebel.
Sinead Marie Bernadette O'Connor was born on December 8th, 1966 in the affluent Glengarry
suburb of Dublin, Ireland.
She was the third of five children to Sean O'Connor and his wife Marie.
The couple had married young, and their relationship, often stormy, ended when Sinead was 8.
Her brother Joseph once described their mother as deeply unhappy and disturbed, and prone
to physical and emotional abuse of her children.
After Sinead's music career took off later in life, her life became full of controversy,
once ripping a photo of the pope on Saturday Night Live, and then becoming a priest of
a Catholic group herself, as well as taking to social media to air personal problems and
outbursts.
However, in recent years O'Connor was also open about her struggle with addiction and
Sinead is survived by her three children, her 17-year-old son Shane died in 2022.
In 2021, the last known residence of Sinead O'Connor was put back on the market, or at
least this was the last property of hers that we've seen photos of.
From what we can imagine, this eccentric home best captured the late artist's vibrant
personality, which we can see in how she decorated it.
Originally hailing from Glengarry, Ireland, O'Connor, the celebrated singer, who gained
worldwide fame with her iconic hit, Nothing Compares to You, in 1990, returned to Bray,
where this home is, during the onset of the pandemic, after her scheduled US tour was
postponed.
Sinead's former home is located in Bray, the seaside Irish town, and it was positioned
just a few steps away from Bray's promenade.
Inside, this home spanned 3,714 square feet of space and boasted stunning panoramic sea
views.
Dating back to the 1860s, the property kept many of its original features, including intricately
detailed cornice work, while a more recent extension has been added to the rear.
The interior of the house is strikingly decked out with bright, vibrant hues of pink, purple
and blue, creating a very visually captivating atmosphere, thanks to Sinead.
This villa-style house is an important example of Bray's original Victorian waterfront
properties from the times when the Wicklow town was a popular seaside resort.
The singer showed an appreciation for how to best maintain the home's period features,
while still customising the home.
The home not only offered amazing views of the nearby Irish beaches, but inside the semi-detached
structure, there were six bedrooms and four spacious common rooms throughout.
The house's white exterior showcases edge bricks that are elegantly accented in Jamaican
colours, green, yellow and red, while the front porch frame stands out with its lively
bubblegum pink hue.
Inside the property boasts four reception rooms, as mentioned, that had high ceilings
throughout, making the rooms very airy and open.
The candyfloss pink kitchen was equipped with a Stanley gas burning cooker, and surrounded
by an exposed brick wall, adding a touch of rustic charm to the space.
The kitchen also had bright pink cupboards and lots of room to food prep.
Looking around, you'll find much of Sinead's home was decorated in an array of different
colours, both inside and outside.
While she kept the vintage wooden interiors in the house, the colourful walls and touches
were definitely Sinead's way of making her home unique.
One of the living rooms stands out with its pastel green walls, creating a striking contrast
against the dark furnishings that adorn the place.
Here, there were also dark wooden bookshelves, floors, and an original fireplace.
In another living room, the art is adorned in a deep magenta shade, to complement the
pale pink sofas.
This thoughtful colour coordination creates a sense of comfort and warmth in the room,
while also making it bold.
Adding to the home's Victorian feel, many of the rooms still boast their original fireplaces
and wooden windows.
In Sinead's one-time master bedroom, there were walls and a ceiling, painted in a deep
blue, creating an ambience like the sky or sea, along with a mural portraying what appears
to be a Hindu god rising behind the headboard.
Further rooms boast stunning stained glass windows, while one glass door displays a depiction
of a religious figure.
Colours could be seen throughout the entire abode, even with the bright purple shades
in the late singer's front foyer.
In the yard, Sinead's garden shed was painted a deep shade of purple with plenty of other
space out here, as well as room for a large bright white garage.
It was previously reported by the Irish Times that Sinead tried to sell her house back in
2017, and came close to securing a sale before it fell through.
In 2021, she put her multi-coloured seaside house in Ireland back on the market for £683,000,
at which point Sinead also said she would then be going to live in her holiday property.
Either way, we can see Sinead O'Connor's former home was a true reflection of her unique
artistic flair, with its vibrant colours, distinct design elements and more.
More recently, in Spring 2023, it was said that Sinead's former seaside house was going
to be turned into a luxury apartment.
However, the plans were turned down.
Sinead had bought her stunning home back in 2007, and after struggling to sell it for
a few years, it was last sold in 2021.
Property is well over 3 times the size of your average family home, and as we mentioned
before it had 6 bedrooms and there were 3 bathrooms.
In May of last year, BBA Architecture, on behalf of Rachel Carthy, lodged plans with
the council to convert the property into 5 apartments.
The initial proposal also included the construction of a 3 story extension to the back of the
existing building, with balconies to the rear and west elevation.
However, the council refused planning permission despite revised plans with the height of the
rear extension reduced.
We don't know what's going on with it now, but either way, that home was the most
well known residence of the late singer Sinead O'Connor.
And for now that's going to wrap up today's house tour.
Before we go, answer this question for me.
