Today we're exploring Siena and right now we're standing in the middle of El Campo Square. This is where they have the horse races.
There are two of these races a year. All the districts compete and the winner gets the flag raised on a building around here.
I'm just not sure which one.
It kind of sounds like
the Hunger Games.
Except presumably nobody dies.
Well, we don't know that.
So Siena is easily one of the oldest cities we've been in.
It's an old Roman city, one of the first. It also has the first bank ever.
Feel good?
I'd read that because Siena is built on a hill and there's no river access around it,
they had to build underground, dig underground and bring the water up by these fountains throughout the city.
Right now we're looking for the El Duomo and I think we might have found it.
Well, we've found the Duomo.
And is it ever
impressive?
So there is a reason why you haven't seen the inside of a church yet.
They don't let me in with this camera.
So all I can do is really stand on the outside and just let you admire the detail.
So the reason we're so hot right now is because, see that tower behind, oh wait now,
see that tower behind me?
We just walked to the top of that thing.
There's a warning not to go up if you're claustrophobic.
Definitely true. There's one part at the very beginning where it's super narrow, right above you.
I actually thought I might have to turn back.
Good morning. It is early, but we're very excited because we are going on a wine tour today.
Here we come, Tuscan country.
Wow, this winery is called Colle Mattoni. This one is
definitely the best winery of the southwest of Montalcino, my favorite. I grew up with this guy.
Do you want what's in there?
The builder of the Vilduzzi here.
Stop it. It's wet.
But it's water.
Sometimes it can be dangerous.
Interesting wrap-up.
This smells strong.
Are you still alive?
And on both sides of the hill I have vineyards.
So on that side there are the new vineyards that we planted in 2000.
I couldn't see that I was crazy.
Can we start from the beginning now?
It feels like I'm really living now.
Alright, that's it, Italy. You are beautiful.
We love this country and we have to go.
We don't want to go, but we have to go.
But now we're off to...
Home.
What a trip this has been.
It has been an amazing experience.
I recommend it to anyone that can do this.
Go to Europe for three weeks.
Jump around on trains.
Visit all the cities.
This has been amazing.
We can't wait to come back someday.
We will come back.
