Wow, so I think you're going to see Nadal still try and use his favorite shots to forehand cross-court.
That is a horrible opening service game for Djokovic when you compare it to how effective he was last night.
Both guys struggling to hold.
Nadal hasn't won a point. You know, you saw those three aces. He's only had 11 the entire week.
Two saved and he's got one more to face. What a backhand that was.
One of the aces not on breakpoint, but at game point, that's his 12th of the week.
Djokovic is on the board.
But Nadal has the early lead.
Wow, when he read that serve that time, so he was edging that way initially, ready for it, and that makes a huge difference.
That's fantastic court position.
Djokovic guilty of dropping the ball short and instead of just waiting for the ball then to come to him,
Nadal quick to move up the court, take the ball on the rise inside the baseline, and as a result, taking time away from Djokovic.
Superb technique.
Able to run around that backhand and get that forehand he wants.
And another double fault. Five
has put Nadal
one game away from taking this opening set. It's been all Rafa here in set number one.
Djokovic's hitting much better in that point.
And I love the forehands that he came in behind as well, rather than going pace, depth.
It's out, and Djokovic
is trying to get one of the two breaks back.
He's got one back. Better tennis,
more aggressive, fewer unforced errors, dictating play.
Opening up the court beautifully with that backhand down the line. That's the trademark shot.
Finishing the rally beautifully, making good use of the open court. Look at the preparation.
And finally, and we'll see if that stat
continues as Nadal has taken the opening set.
It's perfect.
That's been one of the differences between the two. When Nadal's hit shots like that, most of them have gone in just
whereas Djokovic has made a lot of errors where he's just missed by a couple of inches.
I mean, and that's all it takes when you're talking about two players that are so closely matched.
Points are ending in errors.
That's more like it. Opportunity to step up the court too frequently. It's one of his favorite patterns of play against Nadal.
It's just so good.
That's more like it.
A fighting fight.
Surprising Djokovic there. He was expecting Nadal to go cross court to try to neutralize his forehand, but Spaniard having
nothing of it.
Oh, is it me, Jason, or is the Nadal ball starting to land a little short? Final set.
Both semifinals go the distance today.
Winner gets roundage of this third set.
I think he sensed that perhaps in that second set towards the tail end of it, got a little passive.
And that's when he allows Djokovic then to hold the upper hand in the rallies. He's got to step up the court.
Brilliant return.
Both players fully understand now what's required in this deciding set.
These guys are turning it up now. Good exchange again.
One of the best rallies of the match. I mean, Nadal there refusing to be moved from the baseline. Taking every single shot on the rise.
It's a good recovery.
Got him.
Always talk about how risky that approach shot is.
It doesn't matter how good it is.
All the best players in the world are able to hit this forehand on the run so well.
I think it was going to be good enough.
It's not even possible to hit that kind of shot off this forehand of Djokovic's.
A brilliant piece of racket work from Nadal.
He was expecting a much weaker reply to be able to beat Djokovic with a shot like that from that position. Incredible.
That's good too. Wow.
Blow for blow.
That's a legitimate shot. Nadal is
apologizing, but it's the only shot he had really. Nothing wrong with that at all.
The drop shot here was giving a little too much air.
But so was that.
So what else are you going to do in that position there?
Got to go straight at your opponent.
There's nothing Djokovic...
Would he be mad because he hit it at his head? No, he's going straight at him.
Yeah, nothing wrong with that. No one likes getting pegged in the face. Of course not. Here's a little
tense moment. Of course it is. You know, there's the apology.
Oh, yes.
We have got some spice
and a little heat.
2-3.
Final set.
Three games to two.
This final one. Sensational tennis from both.
It's back now.
Wow, what a shot.
There's nothing wrong with the approach. Hit it as well as he could have done given the circumstances.
But Nadal was ready and waiting to pounce.
Let's watch the racket head speed on this final backhand with the open stance there.
Knew that shot needed to be that good given what happened on the previous points.
Knows he should have done better.
Djokovic knew he wasn't going to give Nadal another backhand pass, so he had to mix it up.
Djokovic escapes.
Oh!
That's incredible. Fantastic tennis.
Winner at Indian Wells. He hasn't lost a hardcourt match this year.
Now turning up the heat.
It's out.
And a commanding 5-0 lead for Nadal.
And as we are one point away
from a Nadal roundage final.
Now he gets one.
But a multitude of match points remain for Nadal.
Season on.
Two in a row.
But not apologizing for this win.
This guy's unbelievable.
He's made a final in every tournament for Wimbledon.
And Nadal wins it.
6-4, 3-6, 7-6.
