Welcome back. Transfer News reaching us all the time here this afternoon on Sky Sports News. Our
chief reporter Kaveh Solokol is back alongside me with news of the pursuit of a French international.
Yes, sources in Germany are expecting Manchester United to make a move for Benjamin Pavard
if Harry Maguire leaves United. Now Bayern Munich have known for a long time that Pavard
wants to leave and once sources told us that the player wants to move to United
and also that negotiations are ongoing at the moment. Now he's a right back who also plays
as a centre back. He would cost we're being told around 30 to 35 million euros so probably around
30 million pounds. In the past he's been linked with Manchester City, Liverpool and Barcelona
and he moved to Bayern from Stuttgart I think four years ago for 35 million euros. Now I think what
Bayern were trying to do this summer was to sell Pavard because he told them he wanted to leave
and replace him with Kyle Walker from Manchester City but it looks like Kyle Walker is going to
sign a new contract and stay at City. So will Bayern be putting pressure behind the scenes on Pavard
to actually stay at the club? Our information is that the player would fight to get out of
Bayern Munich. He really wants to move to the Premier League and I think he would find it very
difficult to say no to Manchester United if United were to make an offer for him.
Huge amount to get through this hour in the company of Dan Bardell, Nabeed Haroon and
Zach Gelab. Let's get to West Ham where there's been a flurry of activity this morning. They now
have agreed a deal in principle with Manchester United to sign defender Harry Maguire in a deal
worth in the region of 30 million pounds. On personal terms we're told will not be a problem
but there is still some work to be done on this one. Right Dan so West Ham why do they want a
centre-back? Why do they want Harry Maguire? On the face of it West Ham don't need a centre-back.
They've got four pretty good level centre-backs there already but it's obviously the David Moyes
thinks that Harry Maguire will bring something that those central defenders don't already bring
to the table in terms of leadership, in some ways Premier League experience. Very dominant in the
Harry Maguire we'll come on to later about Jones, Ward-Prowse and about how they may link up
from set players but if you look at the stats there Maguire has obviously played a lot less
minutes last season than the West Ham defenders that are listed there. It's the bringing the
ball out, the progressive carries where Maguire is at a much higher level than the West Ham
centre-backs. That's not their game. I guess Maguire's been playing under Ten Hagu. He wants
his centre-backs to do that so you'd expect the number to be a little bit higher but I actually
think Maguire playing for West Ham you'll see those numbers come down to the level that the
West Ham defenders are at but actually I kind of think that's what Harry Maguire needs at the
moment. I feel like he needs to go back to simplifying his game a little bit less under
the spotlight playing for West Ham rather than Manchester United although now he will always be
under the spotlight. I just think coming away from the Manchester United environment now
will be a really good thing for him and I feel like a player like Maguire is someone that
David Moyes has rebuilt that kind of player's career before. I just think
he needs a fresh start away from the Manchester United bubble now and going to West Ham,
still playing in Europe where there'll be a more structured defensive system
and a way of playing. I think that will suit Maguire. He has been training with Manchester
United today so although this deal is agreed in principle he is still a Manchester United player
so much so that here he is. Here's the proof that he's training with Manchester United
this morning. Nabeed, Dan mentioned something interesting there about maybe
he needs to get out of Manchester United now and a fresh start. Do you agree with that?
I think it's got to the point where at Manchester United it feels as though
Ten Haga has other alternatives. He played Sean Lindelof as a pair at times
last season. I think if you're Harry Maguire and he's watching that he's probably thinking
how far down the pecking order am I and also he wants to be an England international. He's
very highly regarded by Gareth Southgate. He wants to play for England and for that reason
he has to be playing regularly and I think at West Ham he gets the minutes. Do you think he does have
to be playing regularly because he's got picked for England regardless of however bad his form's
been or however little he's been playing. Southgate still picked him and nined him in his best 11 for
the World Cup didn't they? Not just Maguire either. He's done that with others as well.
There's a difference though as well because you can do that with somebody that may have just come
off a season where they've played over 1,000 minutes. He barely played over the last year
and okay he brought him in. This is since he joined of course. Since he joined Manchester
there is stats from there. Yes carry on. No I was going to say obviously because when it was the
World Cup it was still very much a squad that involved him heavily in that side whereas by
the Euros next time we could be seeing the likes of Tamori in this side, Levi Colwell at Chelsea.
We saw him training with that first team. By that point it could be a lot of new players there in a
different environment where if he isn't getting the minutes and isn't maybe deserving of that
place Gareth might have to look elsewhere.
