Highlights: Oberachern - Freiburg | DFB-POKAL 2023/2024

It's time in 686 days, Freiburger back at the Dreisamstadion for a clash that combines the magic of the DFB-Pokal with a South Baden derby against fifth-tier Oberachen. Just under a quarter of an hour played so far, free kick opportunity, Oberachen, it looks dangerous. Oh, Ludwig's there, he's put it in the back of the offside flag, spoils everyone's fun here at the Dreisamstadion. And it would have been a dream start for Oberachen not to be. It now will be Ludwig with the free kick, the man who has already had a goal ruled out. Goes for power, oh, it's off the post! Wow, Atabolu looked like he was beaten. Fabian Himmel, the head coach, said it was a dream, not a target, to upset Freiburg. Lovely ball forward, looking for the run of Rolland Schalke. Freiburg have had so little to work with in this first half. Schalke goes alone and it's a fine save. From Riedel, had to get down low to his right to tip it on to the post after a deflection as well. Best chance of the first half for Freiburg on the stroke of halftime. Well, goal is at the break, but you could argue that Oberachen would be more deserving of a lead so far. Very much one-way traffic building in Freiburg's favour since the restart. Schalke, Günther, no-one closing him down, Günther goes for goal! Impact needed. It's his first ever goal in the day of BIPOCAL, and more importantly, it's the 1,000th goal scored here at the Dreisamstadion. There was no more fitting person for that moment of history. Günther and Höfler, those two, have changed the game since coming off the bench. Eggestein strikes now, and again it's a good save from Riedel. He really has been on great form today. Leinhardt fancies another surging run, combines with Günther instead. Kroos comes in, not cleared, but back into the mix, and again it is Marc-Patrick Riedel to Oberachen's rescue. Ninth save of the game now for him. Riedel. Oh, that's a terrible pass. Schalke with a chance to make it two! And for the first time this afternoon, Oberachen make a big mistake, and are ruthlessly punished, and that might just put the game beyond their reach. And Roland Schanay, who set up the first goal, turns finisher for the second. Well, Oberachen and Fabian Himmel gave a great account of themselves, but Freiburg's happy homecoming at the Dreisamstadion sees them reach the second round of the day of BIPOCAL.
