The Tenth Doctor's regeneration was the most explosive in all of Doctor Who, but did this contradict canon or provide David Tennant's perfect ending? #Entertainment # DoctorWho #Regeneration
In Doctor Who, the Tenth Doctor's regeneration into the Eleventh Doctor was so explosive
that it completely wrecked the TARDIS console room.
And there were various explanations as for why it was so violent.
The Tenth Doctor's final line, I don't want to go, set up a literal raging against
the dying of the light.
The Tenth Doctor's unwillingness to regenerate has often been cited as the real reason for
the explosive outburst.
But this was later contradicted by the Twelfth Doctor when he too resisted change.
But the Twelfth Doctor's regeneration wasn't anywhere near as explosive and destructive
as that of the Tenth.
The Tenth Doctor delayed his regeneration, meaning that the explosion was proof he couldn't
hold it in any longer.
Peter Capaldi's Doctor also delayed his regeneration, but only for a few days as he
fought to save the colonists from the Cybermen, before apparently dying in the process.
Peter Capaldi's one last adventure was enough to convince him to let go and allow
the change to come, whereas the Tenth Doctor was resistant of this process right up until
the last minute.
I don't want to go.
Sir, please.
It's also worth pointing out that the Tenth Doctor visited every single one of his previous
companions at the conclusion of The End of Time.
On screen, only those from 2005 to 2010 are shown.
However, in the Sarah Jane Adventures episode, Death of the Doctor, the Eleventh Doctor revealed
he dropped in on every companion in Doctor Who.
That is a long time to hold back regeneration, which explains the explosive change.
The Tenth Doctor's refusal to die could play a key role in the upcoming 60th anniversary
episodes of Doctor Who, which see David Tennant return as the Fourteenth Doctor.
It's very clear that something has gone wrong, and perhaps the Doctor is being tested
by being offered the chance to be the Tenth Doctor once again.
Hopefully this time, the Doctor will be able to reconcile their fear of change and regenerate
into Shuri Gatwa without causing such catastrophic damage to their long-suffering TARDIS.
