What is going on ladies and gentlemen we are fame on fire back and we're going to talk
about some pre-show rituals that we do.
And boy do we have a list.
Who's going first?
I'll go last.
So let's just go down the line Paul.
Alright I'll go first.
So I like to somewhat be in silence before a show.
Like it's just too loud so I like to kind of hang out.
I think everyone kind of is before a show.
Yeah.
I definitely won't like drink alcohol or anything before a show.
Like that's a given.
Big no no on that for me.
Other than that like that's kind of it.
But like okay so leading up to time to strap in the in-ears and stuff like that like where
the band before us is going on and then all the way through like as they're about to finish
like where are you at and what are you doing?
I actually like to stay outside.
Like I have a fresh breeze.
Fresh air yeah.
Yeah.
That's it.
And just kind of hang around.
Yeah.
Just be myself.
So it's usually just me in the RV.
Alex sometimes.
Sometimes.
But it's like if Alex is editing a video he's in the RV.
It all depends on like how far away whether there's a green room or not.
If it's you know if it's nice if it's not.
Or how far away the venue is to the to the van because if there's a nice green room I'm
chilling in there.
If there's not I'm in the RV.
But I thought the only one that is a proper like ritual.
Yeah.
I do a little stretching.
I do like a full on ritual.
So it goes down a little bit like this.
So there's a generator in the RV.
I pop the generator on.
I have throat coat that I make before every single show.
Depending on how my voice feels.
Depends on how many packs of throat coat I use throughout the day too.
So it's like a whole daily thing.
He also tries not to say a single word.
This didn't last very long but he tries to not speak all day and it's a fucking game
of charades which I felt like he was probably never great at to begin with.
But now like trying to save his voice he's telling us to do and it's just like bro say
it.
It's one word is not going to hurt you.
I'm sorry.
It's the stupidest thing.
It starts from when he woke up from the previous night.
It's yeah.
Well I try to get it.
OK.
So it actually it actually goes to the previous night.
I try to get as much sleep as I possibly can.
Like I will oversleep just to try and like you know show day after day after day like
nonstop.
It's training on your voice.
So I'll try and sleep as long as I can just to get as much voice back as I can.
And then it's my day starts off off rip on show days is wake up take a piss do whatever
make throat coat.
It's the first thing I do every day I make throat coat and then I have this nebulizer
that I'll just strap onto my face lame lay in my bunk and just rip your onion does a
burp.
That was a burp.
My bad.
So I'll lay in bed with my nebulizer on my face just playing video games watching YouTube
videos whatever just like focused on the show going over things that I want to say on stage
like I'll write down the key points key lines I'll just be going over them in my head sometimes
I'll even say them out loud but also trying to stay as silent as I possibly can to not
use my voice at all and then probably about two hours before playing I'll do a vocal warm
up I have a Melissa cross warm up that I like to use after I do that I make another
batch of throat coat sit there with nebulizer on my face a little bit longer and then get
ready to go out on stage and just that's pretty much it though the inners in and go on stage
lock in and just rip it any food or anything before I cannot eat five hours before playing
When did that start?
It's just I think it's always been a thing but he never put a time on it.
Yeah.
I never noticed that.
I don't know.
He never eats before a show.
Yeah.
I only eat after.
But why?
Because I'll burp.
Yeah.
No I don't want to be burping while I'm trying to sing a line.
So so as you can tell based on the length of his ritual he's obviously the singer.
It's pretty simple for me.
I will say though like my absolute favorite thing there's a lot of favorite things about
tour but specifically once we show up to a venue is the first look at the venue when
you walk in and there's obviously no one there.
All the lights are on.
You get a really good understanding of the room and the vibe and kind of like picture
how it's going to look at night.
So I tend to stay like kind of go in and out of the venue a lot before we play.
Also just kind of the guy that's like maybe I don't have a task to do but I'm always kind
of around like you know if you need like whatever if someone's got something to do like I can
help or whatever.
But it's just like hanging out and I try not to eat like that.
There's been a few times you know you kind of eat a little bit too soon and you're just
like oh my God jumping around because we go pretty fucking hard.
We try and put that on.
I mean like we might not be playing the longest set for you guys sometimes if we're opening
30 minutes or so if we're headlining an hour but even then it goes so fast we try and put
on a crazy show.
So you really can't eat you know right before.
I've almost thrown up so many times.
Exactly.
Not so many times but like a handful of times.
I will say though that as we get a little closer maybe the band before is going on or
you know let's say to get a 25 to 30 minute set that's when I start to try and give a
little bit of like let's rile up the troops a little bit just being in a closed box moving
on the road.
It's great.
It's a lot of fun.
It's what we love to do but it's not all that glamorous.
So it's 50 50.
Sometimes the group's a little grumpy.
Sometimes the group's like let's just get this show over with.
Sometimes the group's like yo this is fucking sick let's go.
So all in all I kind of throw on a vibe.
You know we like to get a little hype I turn on the beats pill you know I turn on some
James Brown live.
I believe the show is from specifically I think Africa in 1974 and it's the big payback
and it's just like the greatest intro ever and it gets everyone I mean you could be just
pissed off all of a sudden it's just James Brown and everyone's like let's go and it's
like so heavy but it's not it's funk and then we all just let's fucking go and we put on
the show.
It's a good thing because it takes you out of like such that serious mode because every
time before a show I'm like way too serious and a little nerves and stuff like that.
Yeah a little nerves really serious thinking about how things are going to go worried about
you know you know my talking points things like that and then you put that on and it's
just like let's just go on stage and have fun let's just go rip it.
I do every so often I'll feel it if I you know if it has been a while or we had a couple
days off or something like that then you know I do a little stretches and this and
that but because you know you start cramping up and that's not making sure you're hydrated
that's a big thing to make sure you're hydrated drinking water.
Oh yeah lots of water.
One thing I will just add real quick is usually when we all get to the venue it's sort of
like a race to get in and check out the bathroom because that's the best opportunity for it
to be clean.
So you usually play in the toilet right away you know do your business and then after that
it's like oh man I got to go find a place you know down the street.
So that's funny.
That's fun.
Oh man honestly if there's like a really nice bathroom nice shower.
So that's where my ritual starts is the bathroom.
So you got to find a good bathroom never know when you're going to find the next bathroom
so use it to your advantage that's exactly where the ritual starts.
For me it's really just I'm either on the bus with Brian or whatever the RV and I'm
usually either editing a video or just sitting there doing absolutely nothing.
Like actually no in between.
No in between.
Literally no in between.
Fun fact for me I only play shows in vans because I like the grip like between the shoe
and whatever.
But it's just like something for me I always do is I always have to play in vans regardless.
I do too but there's no real reason.
Yeah regardless it's just one thing for me to do but besides that just kind of warming
up listen to Brian's really annoying rituals he has to do the little straws and everything
and I just have to put headphones on.
I don't even use a straw I don't even know where the straw is.
Yes he uses a straw.
I've never used a straw.
I've never used a fucking straw.
He uses a straw.
So I have to listen to it a million times and then I get fed up with it eventually I
just walk off.
Yeah that's actually that's the reason nobody's on the RVs because I'm loud when I'm warming
up and annoying everybody.
I can't get mad he's doing what he's got to do.
And you would think he would kick people off.
It's not it's totally welcoming but we sooner or later just can't take it anymore we just
leave.
Yeah it's great.
It's just like at 25 minutes 30 minutes before we start playing I just kind of walk into
the stage or whatever just get everything prepped put the drums on and then it's showtime.
You do some warm-ups every so often like stretching and this and that.
Stretching I definitely have to stretch my legs for sure.
You know I think it's like actually funny I guess it's like nobody is ever on the RV
when I'm doing my vocal warm-up and one time we were like parked and we had the window
open and Kevin was just like outside doing something and I'm just like warming up with
like my headphones in and he literally just walks on the RV closes the window and walks
out.
Yeah there's some loud noises happening.
And I can't eat I'm like Brian I can't eat before we play a show at least three hours
before we play.
I will not consume anything I have a sensitive stomach so just water and that's it.
But post-show the ritual of the post-show feast is just as important as pre-show.
There's definitely like a post-show ritual for sure.
Yeah it's always it depends really on the tour and you know I guess like mindset they're
all in but it's always let's eat food it could be McDonald's it could be whatever but we
literally just go hunting for food it feels like.
So it also depends on how quickly or how far the distance is to the next venue but typically
show wraps up long story short you know sign some stuff take some pictures just hang out
be normal dudes just you know have a good time and then it's you know all right let's
start to pack our shit up we get on the RV and we're still on a high obviously because
we love playing shows Adrenaline Rush we're still on a high.
At the same time though a lot of times we're also dead because it's just like maybe we're
still sweaty maybe it's just like fuck like that was great but thank God let's get out
of here.
So like we're happy we're hyper but also like dead drive 20-30 minutes an hour and then
it's like we show up at a truck stop and it's always a guess what's going to be attached
to the truck stop.
Arby's?
Wendy's?
McDonald's?
Yeah.
McDonald's?
Fuck yeah.
Subway?
Fuckin' A. Keep going.
Yeah we literally kept driving just to get away from a subway.
I'll look up the next like 100 miles to see what is in a subway.
I don't know if it's just me but like that 20-30 minutes of like traveling from the venue
to the truck stop whatever of just like dead silence is one of my favorites.
It's just quiet Kevin yelling at somebody or Paul getting yelled at Paul other Paul
getting yelled at one of us is giggling and then it's like 30 minutes silence we show
up to wherever we have to go and it's just a shit storm from there.
That's it.
You know one thing post show I did try implementing more was stop yelling after shows because
that's honestly the reason I lose my voice.
Yeah cause you're just hyping up.
I'm also fucking hyping I'm fucking yelling like there's other music playing in the fucking
background and I'm like talking to fans and shit just like yeah thank you so much for
coming out.
You're losing your shit.
Yeah you just lose your fucking voice.
Also at least one of us always loses our in-ear pack after every show.
We don't know how you do that you or headphones not just me.
I don't ever want to lose any of those items Brian.
When did I lose I left that you don't lose it you just misplaced it.
It's not that's not losing.
Yeah.
What do you know what I say?
What do you mean misplaced?
It's all misplaced.
It doesn't have your back on this.
I don't have your back on this one.
We've gotten a good so I don't remember Alex I packed up your in-ears so many times same.
So yeah I guess that's pretty much it for tour rituals.
Oh yeah.
That's it.
Peace.
