Progress is currently being made in the field of solar energy, but 100 years ago there was an extraordinary invention that used sunlight and revolutionized the world.
But the big capitalists don't support them and so they are forgotten.
It's called Pyroleophorus, which means something like the swallow of the solar fire.
With this device, a temperature of up to 3,500 degrees Celsius was reached, enough to melt most metals.
The author of this impressive invention was the Portuguese priest Manuel Antonio Gomes, known as Padre Himalaya due to his imposing stature.
He was born in 1868 in Arcos de Valdévez, Portugal, to a family of farmers, and entered the Seminar of Braga at the age of 15.
He studied a variety of scientific disciplines, was a vegetarian and was known for his resistance to authorities.
His research included hydrotherapy, the preparation of water and plants, natural remedies and, above all, the application of solar energy.
He traveled to Paris, London and the USA and lived in Argentina from 1927 to 1932.
A year later he returned to Portugal, where he died.
The exact cause of death is not known, some suspect he could have poisoned himself by accident during his experiments.
Padre Himalaya presented his Pyroleophorus in 1901.
However, when he presented it to him in 1904 at the World Exhibition in St. Louis, he amazed the world.
With this device, he was able to reach a temperature of up to 3,500 degrees Celsius, which was enough to melt many metals and stones.
Although he received two gold medals and a silver medal, the invention was forgotten, especially due to the rising boom in the oil industry.
The Pyroleophorus was a kind of solar oven, which was equipped with large reflective mirrors,
which were able to concentrate the sunlight on a common point and generate extremely high temperatures.
In the issue of the magazine Alrededor del Mundo, published on December 1, 1904, it was reported.
One of the most important scientific devices to be presented at the exhibition in St. Louis is a sunbeam concentrator.
It is expected to cause a revolution in the fields of chemistry and agriculture.
It is a 13 meter high steel frame that looks like a shell on the outside,
surrounds a reflector that looks like a cone in its shape.
The inner bulge is covered with small square plates that resemble mirrors of 12.5 x 25 cm.
Each of these squares is attached with bronze screws that form the base of the reflector.
Each square is mathematically adapted to the adjacent one to form a perfect concave surface of 6,117 mirrors.
In 1901 in London it was believed that Padre Himalaya's invention could be widely used in various areas, from metallurgy to chemistry.
However, he did not receive the necessary financial support, as he was not willing to invest.
Unfortunately, his invention was forgotten.
Padre Himalaya also developed motors that could be operated with gaseogens
and methods for generating rainfalls during drought periods.
These developments would have been extremely useful in our time,
apart from those who benefit from water speculation.
If the powerful capitalists had invested in solar energy instead of oil, our world could look very different today.
Unfortunately, however, the world is often guided by financial interests
that do not always have the well-being of the general public in mind, but rather the enrichment of some.
