Home Window – How to Choose the Right Style & Material for Your Home

Hey guys, Sean with American Window Concepts. Let's talk about what you should be looking for whenever you're window shopping. Well, here's the things that I feel are most important whenever you are looking for replacement windows in your beautiful homes. First, find out what it is that is most important to you as far as the material, what type of window that you're looking for, and then the price point. Are you looking for something that's going to be vinyl, it's going to be a little bit more cost effective? Are you looking for something that's wood? Or are you looking for something aluminum? People who are shopping for aluminum windows usually are looking for grander windows, right? The wood windows are going to be those who basically have a house that really asks for a wood style window. Now there are some houses, they just have a certain look, whether it's a Cape Cod or whatever that has, it really wants like a wood window on the inside. Maybe it's the interior that really needs that wood look. Maybe you're a candidate for that. So you're going to be looking for a very specific installer and dealer for wood windows, whatever the brand that you're looking at. If you're looking at vinyl, vinyls are really easy to get a hold of as far as an installer who could come out and give you a quote. The other is going to be the business itself that's doing the work for you. So get yourself two, three quotes. Three is probably the safe number. You really knowing what it is that you want, that way you're clear with the person who's coming out to visit you. And then you can start talking apples to apples. And then the next thing is going to be the people who are installing it for you. You know, do they have great reviews? If they have some bad reviews, I always look for the bad reviews whenever I'm doing anything, whether I'm, you know, car shopping or doing whatever it is, I'm always looking for, you know, the bad reviews first. I think it's kind of nature. I mean, that's normal for people. And then obviously, if the people who are going to be installing it for you, just make sure that they are insured and bonded. So that way, anything inside of your house, if it gets damaged during the process, it can get taken care of. Things can, you know, chip, things can break, you know, and then you just want to make sure that you're going to be covered. You know, it can be a nuisance, right, if something like that happens. But in the end of the day, you just want it to be fixed and repaired and move on from that. Another thing would be the style of window. So you've already figured out what kind of window or what brand of window. Now you're looking at, well, do we want casement windows? We want single hung windows. We want to, you know, a complement of all of those types of windows and sliders. You know, maybe the windows that you have at your house are already currently sliders. You want to just stay with that. Cool. Or if you're like, hey, you know what, I kind of like the idea of, you know, some casements that open out and mirror each other. That's also cool. So there's going to be different price points, but whatever you want, just make sure that you know what you want going in to get in these quotes because it becomes weird whenever you're having one guy come out and quoting sliders and then you think about it later and you go, wait a minute, the next person that comes over, let's see what it would cost to get casements. Well, that's not apples to apples, is it? So after all of that, the last thing I would suggest that you're wanting to look for is a great warranty. And that would be for the window and the installation. So we call it our craftsmanship warranty. You want to make sure that whomever is going to be installing the window itself has a great warranty, at least a lifetime warranty. And then the dealer that's doing the installation that they, you know, they'll warrant their installation for at least 10 years or so. Right. These are the things to keep in mind. So I'm telling you to do the same thing, but regarding windows, windows is what I do. So this is what I'm suggesting to anybody watching this. All right, guys, hopefully this helps.
