Greetings to the viewers of Setia Mata Ketiga
Today, Mata Ketiga will discuss the work of an English actor, poet and translator,
Christopher Marlowe, who lived from 1564 to 1593.
His work is about Dr. Faustus the Hebrew Priest.
One night, a member of Congress was awakened and found Lucifer standing at the end of his bed
and asked him what he wanted.
The member of Congress asked,
I want to give you everything you want or imagine.
Lucifer replied,
You will be re-elected in every election.
You will have wealth beyond your wildest dreams.
A cruise ship.
Just say it, and it's yours.
The member of Congress sat in bed.
Wow, good, but for your own benefit.
In 24 years, you give your eternal soul to me.
Lucifer replied.
The member of Congress was shocked, but then laughed bitterly.
It's true,
The old Lelucon or his variations talk a lot about modernity.
Like our ancestors, we still see evil in the world,
but in our time in the field of science,
psychology, social science and statistics, we almost always look at genetics
or the environment of life as an explanation for evil.
Debt that explodes pushes the executive to darken the money and destroy the company.
Ideology infects and causes a detective disease that orders millions of people to be executed.
Rarely in this explanation do we hear about evil or the human soul.
And of course there is no one on the side of the devil
who brings us to Dr. Faustus.
Basic Storyline
The 17th century drama by Christopher Marlowe titled
The Tragical History of the Life and Death of Dr. Faustus
or the tragic history of the life and death of Dr. Faustus
is now routinely referred to as Dr. Faustus.
In the drama Marlowe, Faustus is a professor and intellectual star at the University of Wittenberg,
eager to gain greater wisdom and power.
He deviates from logic, reason and theology and strives to gain power through the use of magic.
Very quickly in his actions, Faustus finds himself allied with Lucifer and Lucifer's messengers,
namely Mephistopheles.
Faustus signs a contract with his own blood that affirms that as a substitute for his soul,
this dark power will give him everything he wants for the next 24 years.
Faustus blames or despises this power, which he cares only about his personal benefits.
Meanwhile, Faustus doubts between God and Lucifer,
tends to seek forgiveness from God but then reunites with evil.
Finally, Faustus believes that the time he has for the possibility of atonement for his sins is over
and he sees himself as destined to die.
For the joy that was wasted for 24 years,
Faustus said at the end of the drama,
did Faustus lose his love and eternal happiness?
I wrote a letter with my own blood to them, the date was Wednesday.
And Faustus died, torn from heaven, his body torn by the devils and his soul sent to hell.
The drama ends with these lines.
Faustus has gone, assuming his terrible fate,
the misfortune of anyone who can advise a wise man
just to ask questions about things that violate the law.
To the depth of anyone who ties intelligence to the future
such as that to train more than the permissions of the power of heaven.
Pride goes before the fall.
Faustus's great ego and intellectual arrogance
Faustus initially blinded Faustus to the consequences of his alliance with the devil.
In the Law of One, for example, when Mephistopheles made his first visit,
Faustus said to Mephistopheles,
The words of curses do not scare me because I stir hell in Elysium,
my ghost with the old philosophers.
And when Mephistopheles tried to remind Faustus about the loss of heaven
which awaits him if he continues this journey,
Faustus replied,
What? Is Mephistopheles who is great so enthusiastic about the loss of heaven's love?
Learn from the addition of a male Faustus
and steal the love of love that you will never have.
Even after meeting Mephistopheles and signing the evil contract,
Faustus arrogantly stated,
I think hell is a trap.
In the end, Faustus's arrogance brought destruction for him.
Power
If I had a soul as many stars,
I will give it all to Mephistopheles.
Thanks to Mephistopheles, I will be a great emperor all over the world
and build a bridge through moving air to cross the sea with a group of men.
Here in this initial event, we hear Faustus speculating about the power he will soon have,
the ability to control the earth and everything on earth.
This newly discovered power will not use logic or reason,
but uses magic and supernatural,
black arts that make it possible for their practices to step out of the
physical laws of nature and thus control the nature and the people of man.
The power of corruption,
said Lord Acton who is famous,
and absolute power is truly corrupt.
Faustus will soon learn this lesson about corruption
known to every king and absolute detective who has ever lived.
Ego
In the fifth chapter of the end of the drama,
Faustus begs Mephistopheles to give Helen's love from Troy to him.
So that I can have my love,
the heavenly Helen that I see lately,
the sweet kisses of anyone who can clearly extinguish
these thoughts that prevent me from my vow
and hold my vow that I made for Lucifer.
Mephistopheles accepts this request
and when Helen enters,
Faustus speaks the most famous lines of this drama.
Is this the face that launched a thousand ships
and burned the Ilium Tower that spans the chest?
Sweet Helen makes me eternal with a kiss.
The lips of Helen suck my soul,
see where my soul flies.
Come on Helen, come on,
return my soul to me.
Here I will live,
because heaven is on these lips.
We can interpret these words as praises
given by a man who fell in love with beauty.
A series of words to win love,
but something stranger is in the heart of this praise.
Helen does not have the strength to make Faustus eternal
and the words of Helen's lips suck my soul
and heaven is on these lips.
Tell us that Faustus,
like many others before and after him,
has misjudged fleshly pleasure as heaven's lust.
A Reverse World
At one point, Lucifer and Beelzebub entertain Faustus
by praying before the seven sins that Faustus committed.
Arrogance, greed, jealousy,
envy, greed, laziness and the release of lust.
After these seven deadly sins
explain themselves and come out of the stage,
Faustus exclaims,
Oh, how this sight pleases my soul.
Lucifer then convinced him,
but Faustus, in hell there is all kinds of pleasure.
Here Faustus is pushed by Lucifer
to change the moral order above his head.
This kind of scene is found throughout the drama,
showing the giving and taking
between the seducer and the seducer.
Lucifer and Mephistopheles offer a reconciliation
and Faustus, who is so arrogant as a priest,
has no courtesy and wisdom to refuse it.
The Study of Dr. Faustus
Is there a more accurate drama
other than Dr. Faustus for the 21st century?
Some of us may no longer believe in hell or Lucifer,
the liar.
But the offer of Faustian,
when we exchange principles
or the character of our honesty for power,
arrogance or wealth is still very active.
The same temptation faced by Faustus,
blind pride, desire to dominate power,
servitude,
the belief that we can be gods
and form the world and the people
as we want to be free of their nature
and the same disasters fall into destruction and shame
happens throughout our modern world.
We can read the story of Faustus every day
this modern version in our newspaper and blog online.
Some experts believe that we humans
can control the manifestation of nature,
such as the genus Calamin or Iclim.
Some Hollywood conglomerates believe
that they can take sexual benefits
from actors and actresses
too far above the law
is in danger of detection or punishment.
Because of their pride and confidence
that they know what's best for all of us,
some of our elites,
members of our congress and our governors,
men and women in the media and academia,
large technology gangs also act like Faustus,
holding power as if they were the great emperors in the world.
This self-esteem often makes people like that
and we are all blind to the end of their own story,
not realizing the possibility of shame and humiliation in front of them,
the destruction of their good name and character.
They ignore what is called Faustus
only in one hour left on his contract.
The stars move silently,
when walking, the clock will strike,
the devil will come
and Faustus must be cursed.
